• There was the competent implementation of the stratagem and their consequent success in the collaboration with their suppliers at the time.

• There was acquisition of independence from the government, a factor, which enabled Poste Italiane to concentrate on its wide expansion.

2. “How would you characterize the business-level (competitive) strategy of PosteMobile?”
• It derived its basis from the varied benefits of long-term transformation, which improved the productivity of the company. Consequently, the improvement in production enabled the company to produce more than its immediate competitors. Additionally, there was a rapid expansion of affiliate branches of the company that resulted in the registration of more profits.

• The strategy further facilitated the diversification of company operations from traditional letter clientele to mobile telecommunication.
• There was a comprehensive restructuring of the financial setup of the company, which also included hiring professionals such as Corrado Passera who was the first CEO of the corporation.
• Another strategy entailed the meeting of union leaders and management of the company to eliminate some unnecessary costs and improve their services. The involvement of the government further aided in easily paying off its huge debts.

• Heavily investing in information technology equipment, which would be used in the post office sector to improve services to their clientele. In addition, there was another strategy to outsource Vodafone to offer telecommunication network infrastructure.

• PosteMobile offers an extension of banking services, which have close links with the postal services of Poste Italiane
• It further fits in this strategy because Poste Italiane was part of the expansion process of the corporation
• The telecommunication company additionally presents convenience to its customers because of the constant introductions of novice services.

4. Considering the period 1998-2010, would you characterize the approach to strategy at Poste Italiane as a planned or an emergent approach?
• The approach to strategy was planned; however, with critical analysis of the strategy; some elements of an emergent approach are evident.
• The planned approach entailed many consultations, which resulted in meeting relevant experts who would provide help in the revival of the company.
• Further, there was an extensive study of the market and later a decision to reduce prices to accommodate many customers from all social backgrounds.
• The strategy could also be termed as emergent because of the possibility that this company enjoyed this outstanding improvement in service delivery because of the advantage of time and the need to experience change (Knights &Willmott 2007).
• Finally, the plan took a long time, probably because the proprietors of the idea wanted to create a masterpiece that would impress their clientele.

5. How important were resources and competencies in allowing Poste Italiane to diversify with the creation of PosteMobile?
• Competence of the top management of this corporation enabled the creation of exciting products in the market such as the now-popular mobile banking.
• Such resources as already established businesses provided a market for the services which were being provided by PosteMobile
• Technology-related resources such as omnidirectional scanners were important because they could perform many tasks at the same time and at a faster speed. Such resources enabled the company to save on additional outlay of buying more machines or employing more personnel.
