Company Performance Paper Helen of Troy Helen of Troy Limited is a company which designs, produces and markets brandnames of personal care electrical products. Some of the products they work with include home air clippers, hair dryers, curling irons, and body massagers among others. The company’s household products are tools, cleaning, storage, and automotive categories among others. The company produces, designs and markets these products through its international divisions based in Canada, UK and Mexico. The company makes its money from the products which they sell and are categorized into three divisions, namely retail; brushes, combs and accessories; and professional products. Selling of these products guarantees the company gets steady revenue in ensuring it meets its revenue targets (Helen of Troy). The company is under the governorship of a board of directors headed by Gerald J. Rubin who is the chairman, Chief Executive Officer and the president of the organization. The current head of the organization has been serving since 2000 and has scaled the organization to higher heights as the company was ranked one of the best small companies in 2007 (Hamilton). The management staff have also ensured the company undergoes acquisition which has made it successful. As much as the company tries to move forward, it faces competition from its key competitors that are Conair Corporation and Energizer Holdings, which also deal with personal care products, household appliances and cosmetics and skin care products manufacturing. The company plans to grow as per its strategic plan by venturing into new markets. The globalization of the world has enhanced the emergence of new companies in the market which are rapidly expanding, hence they pose a risk to Helen of Troy as competition stiffens. They risk losing some of their clients to emerging industries. Regis Corporation Regis Corporation is the world’s leader in beauty salons, hair restoration center and offers cosmetology education. It operates under strict concepts such as Sasson salons, Regis salon, and hair hub for men and women among others. The company does its business through owning salons, which offers a variety of hair care services including styling and coloring, haircuts and a variety of internationally recognized professional hair care products. It makes its money from a variety of branches it has opened, such as Provalliance which operates salons in Europe, Saint Algue in US, as well as MY concept in Japan (Regis Corp). All these operational branches ensure that the organization makes money in meeting its strategies and visions for short term and long term respectively. The company operates under experienced management staff headed by the company’s Chief Executive Officer and the chairman, Finkelstein, who has been in the company from 2006 and has made tremendous achievements. Through his leadership, the company has increased its stores from 500 in 1989 to current 12,500 (Lambert). Regis Corporation’s main competitors are Ulta Salon Cosmetics & Fragrance as well as J.C Penney Company which deal with the same products. The company plans to grow in the coming years through an acquisition plan, which will ensure it expands its network to many cities that have no or have less stores. This will ensure that it takes its services close to its consumers who need its services. The company faces the risk of changing the management which might interfere with its performance giving room for competitors. Nu Skin Enterprise Nu Skin Enterprise is an organization which deals in direct selling and distribution of quality anti-aging products for personal care and as a nutritional supplement. The company does this by selling and marketing their products to consumers who want to feel younger. Other personal care products from the company include: cleansers, toners, cosmetics, fragrances and mouthwash which are internationally distributed through the company’s global network of 800,000 independent distributors and direct sales to the preferred customers. Since its inception, the company has expanded its market to different parts of the world totaling to 51 nations in Africa, Middle East, Europe, Asia pacific and America (Nu Skin). The company has a dedicated team of employees, which ensures it works towards meeting the clients’ demands by providing quality services. The company has been chaired by its founder Blanke Roney from 1989, who is the Chief Executive Officer and the president, Truman Hunt. The management has been able to achieve various awards among them being named one of the most innovative companies in Stevie Awards (Agelocking). The company’s two major competitors are Alticor Inc and AMS Health Sciences Inc which deal with products such as pharmaceutical manufacturing, fragrance manufacturing, and consumer product manufacturing among others. The company growth is banked on its exploration of the potential new markets which have not captured the interest of their competitors and have a larger market. One of the emerging markets has been in China which has seen the company grows its revenue. The more the company opens more outlets, the more it will realize its growth as witnessed in other explored markets. However, the company risks from the societal perception about the anti-aging creams in its emerging markets. These are characterized by the health and legitimate concerns in emerging markets in Asia which might make it risky and result in reduced market revenues (Cavallaro). Waste Connections Waste Connections is an integrated waste management company and provides waste collection, transfer, disposal and recycling services. The company operates mostly in the secondary markets in Western and Southern US. Currently, the company serves over two million residents including commercial and industrial clients in about 29 states (Waste Connections). The company makes its money through waste collection, composting, disposal, intermodal, renewable energy and offering recycle bank related services. They also offer transfer services in their solid waste stations to transport vehicles, in addition to recycling the refuse through employing of experts. The company has been under a strong leadership management of Ronald J. Mittelstaedt since it began its operation, who was appointed as chairman in 1998. Waste Connection has excellent management team which has seen the organization grow over the years and being one of the many respected environmental companies through the way they carry their activities. Through the management of, the company has made strides ahead in developing mechanisms in minimizing the rate of pollution the environment. This has been successfully achieved through building coalitions, which are aimed at preventing pollution and reducing waste in the cities and states. Major competitors of the company are Waste Management and Allied Waste which target smaller markets with exponential population growth. These actions give competition to Waste Connections; hence, it has to work on the modalities which will give it a competitive advantage. The company faces the risk of unsuccessful acquisition, external competitions, environmental liabilities as well as fluctuation of prices for recycled commodities. However, the company can steer its growth through proper acquisition as in the case of Alaska Green Waste Solutions and Alaska Pacific Environmental Services Anchorage. Republic Services Republic Services is a company responsible for waste collection, disposal and recycling waste for industrial, commercial, municipal and residential clients throughout America. The company is the third largest provider of comprehensive waste management, and it offers a wide selection of solid waste collection, recycling of waste and various options for disposal for residential homes, business communities and industries. The company partners with many cities and towns in providing friendly, reliable waste pickup services and ensuring there is conducive living environment at a cost. Republic Services is also responsible for carrying out construction projects through putting up buildings, cleaning out basements, tearing off roofs among others, aimed at ensuring efficiencies which relate to environmental conservations (Republic Services). The company is under a strong management team with distinguished structures headed by Donald W. Slager, President and Chief Executive Officer. Under the leadership of the management and staff, the organization has acquired many other companies in efforts to increase their revenues and in expanding their geographical coverage. One of the companies that were acquired was Allied Waste in late 2008. As much as the organization tries to dominate the market, it finds challenges from its key competitors which are Progressive Waste Solutions and Recology among others. They deal with similar services such as solid waste services and recycling, business service sector and waste management services. Acquisitions and mergers have been one of the core strategies that the company is banking on for its growth since they have produced positive impacts. The company partners with municipalities and cities in joining forces in projects which benefit it to grow. However, the challenges and risks that the company faces are entry of new players into the market which will see the competition stiffen. Energy Solutions Energy Solutions is a company dealing with nuclear energy with its headquarter in Salt Lake Cityand operates in US, Canada, UK and other countries. The company offers a variety of services in safe energy recycling, energy processing, and disposal of nuclear materials. Energy Solutions further provides integrated services and various solutions to stakeholders in the nuclear industries in many countries, as well as with various medical and research facilities. The company makes its money through offering a full range of services aimed at decommissioning and remediation of nuclear locations and facilities. They manage nuclear fuels, provide transportation of nuclear materials and provide environmental cleanups of nuclear sites. The company is committed to being the American leader in reasserting the global nuclear industry and helping other nations achieve their energy security aimed at reducing the rate of carbon emissions and in protecting the environment (Energy Solutions). The company’s management staff is headed by Val J. Christensen who is the Chief Executive Officer and president. Under him is other dedicated staff committed to the company’s values, mission and vision of ensuring the company grows to meet its strategic objectives. The company has achieved a lot since its establishment and has completed a number of projects, key among them being Fernald which supported the US weapon programs during the cold war period. It has also successfully completed Big Rock Point through its acquired companies BNG America and Duratek which is the longest running US nuclear reactor. The company’s major competitors are Fluor Limited and Jacobs UK Limited. The company is expected to grow on its revenue and other aspects by the demand by many countries to venture into clean production and use of energy. This will make the organization steadily grow if all plans are executed. However, the company risks on the ground of developing policies which questions the safety of nuclear energy since it is very dangerous and difficult to maintain.
