Toyota Motor Corporation is a global Japanese automaker that was founded almost a decade ago. It designs, manufactures, assembles and sells various models and types of vehicles, equipment and parts. This paper will analyze the strategic management of Toyota by conducting an internal analysis of the company through a value chain and VRIO analysis placing focus on inbound logistics, operations, outbound logistics, sales and marketing, as well as pertinent support services, the existing corporate structure, human resource capacity, techno-structure, and procurement capacity. External analysis will also be done through a PESTEL/PESTLE analysis, Porters 5 forces analysis, key success factors, a SWOT analysis, strategic options and direction and a balanced scorecard. These analyses help to bring out a clear picture of the strategic management at Toyota Motor Corporation showing how the company is fairing, its weaknesses and recommendations for future improvements. Finally, a conclusion is made as a reflection of the findings of the analysis.

Introduction

Founded in the year 1937, Toyota Motor Corporation is a global Japanese automaker, engaging in the design, manufacture, assembly and subsequent sale of various models and types of vehicles. These range from minivans, passenger cars, and commercial vehicles to related accessories and spare parts. The entity provides these products and associated services in a host of various global nations, spread from Japan to North America, encompassing Europe, the larger Asia and Middle East; as well as other developing nations. Amongst the most popular brands associated with the automaker, including Hino, Daihatsu, Lexus and the famous Toyota brand range (Toyota Company Profile).
