Project Management Name: Assessment Title: Student ID: Instructor: Date of Submission: Executive Summary The project as stipulated is a three-day music festival in the country of Victoria. Thus, some of the plans to consider include resourcing, risk and leadership/managing plans necessary for successful occurrence of the festival (Boxall & John, 2011). The most important factors to consider is the atmosphere, the music, artists, the people and the weather (Van, 2010). The strategies to resourcing include identifying the equipment needed for the three days, including the artists and allocating their performances within the three days. Others include getting the artists, performers, and planning the daily programs. The next resource planning strategy is planning for the output. The risk plan process involves identifying the possible security issues that must be considered before the festival begins. The security threats identified will be managed by providing public safety and incident management planning processes. Leadership and management planning process involves following the stages of team development. First, we need to identify the skills needed, to involve the right people in the project management (Noe, et al., 2007). The management plan involves determining the goals of the festival, including daily activities for successful completion. Table of Content Executive Summary 2 1.0. INTRODUCTION 4 2.2 Question 5 3. CONCLUSION 11 4. REFERENCES 13 5. APPENDICES 14 1.0. INTRODUCTION As a project manager, I have the role of planning a 3-day music festival in Australia. Over the course, I have learned that project planning is not an easy task from the start of forming a team to the end of a successful event. Therefore, my project of 3-day music festival involves analysing the project through resource planning risk assessment and leadership/ management approaches. The process is effective in ensuring that all possible issues and elements of the festival are attained. Leadership approaches must be determined ad explained to determine the direction of the project and allow the group members identify their limitations. Thus, determining the time and place the event is important; the event happens in Victoria across Australia on the day weekend of 2017. In the past, the festival had a large crowd, which is expected equally this year. Thus, in this case, once all such factors are determined, the project will critically analyze the resource, risk and leadership plans for the project. 2.0. LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Questions The resourcing approaches will be attained through the human resource management strategy and the use of staffing and engaging in other festival requirements attainment. The risk strategy will be achieved through developing the public safety plan and an incident and event management risk planning. The leadership style to be used is the laisses faire style, which promotes freedom of decision making through the festival and through handling conflicts through collaboration, the solution solving process is attained. 2.2 Question Resourcing approaches chosen include the human resource and staffing/festival requirement approach. Human resource approach is better compared to music resourcing of team members since it provides more skills on the table that benefit the project success. Staffing and festival requirements is better than just staffing since it staff based on the requirements of the festival and objectives to be attained. Risk assessment approaches chosen include public safety and incident management. Ensuring public safety is better compared to providing security guards since it considers all possible risks that may occur during the event that place the crowd at a threat. The incident management plan is better than planning on any other specific emergency since it provides solutions to different kinds of emergencies expected in events. Leadership approaches include laissez faire and collaborating/problem solving approaches. Both of the approaches chosen are beneficial since other than autocratic styles they allow the group members to solve the issues as they occur, and through collaborating, which empowers all people. 2.3 STRUCTURE 2.3.1 Project plans and discussion of approaches The plan involves undergoing three key plans to ensure the success of the festival for the three days. The plans to consider include using the resourcing plans, risk plans and the leadership and management approaches (Kerzner, 2013). The section below evaluates the three plans critically. 2.3.1.1 Resourcing Resourcing Approaches     Plan Explanation Human Resource Planning Effective tracking of people and their skills to meet the goals of the festival Staffing and festival requirements Effective strategies to the changing environment, including products needed to guarantee the plan to possible changes Human resource planning is the most important factor in the resourcing plan. It focuses on the scarcity and the surplus of the people that may occur throughout at the festival. The approach will consider all the needs of the people attending the festival (Burke, 2013). Staffing and festival requirements is an import approach also since it focuses on the needed skills to manage the festival. It also includes ensuring the equipment’s and other technical requirements needed for the success of the musical festival are sourced. 2.3.1.2 Risk Risk Approaches Public safety It includes considering the safety of the crowd in all dimensions Incident Management Planning That is; the project managers must have a team ready for emergencies among other incidents that may occur. Public safety is the main risk planning approach to be implemented. The approach is determined at ensuring the safety of the crowd from all dimensions throughout the festival. The project managers will use on-site security services to control the large crowds they expect for ensuring threats such as theft among others are managed. The incident management planning approach involves been prepared for the possible emergences that may occur among other incidents that may require immediate control. For instance, medical emergencies may occur, and it is best to have a team ready to deal with such an event. 2.3.1.3 Leadership/management Leadership/management Plan Laissez Faire Approach The project managers dealing with different responsibilities have the freedom to make the decisions they see fit. Collaborating and Problem Solving It involves the employees collaborating with each other to solve problems Laissez Faire Approach is a leadership style that best fits the musical festival approach (Anderson & Linda, 2010). That is; during the music festival, the members will be in different positions in different times. Therefore, by giving them the freedom to operate as they see fit, give the team members enough time to solve problems or other incidents that may occur (Collyer & Clive, 2009). Collaborating and problem solving is the approach where the team members solve problems as a team. That is; the development of a problem is solved by everyone, where through brainstorming the best choice is selected to deal with the problem identified. 2.3.2 Justification of approaches 2.3.2.1 Resourcing Human resource planning: It is considered the resource-planning tool used for identifying the human resource to perform a task including the customer’s needs, which in this case it the music festival crowd. Thus, the anticipation of the crowd helps in determine the resources, skills and other requirements needed for the successful completion of a task. Resourcing is mainly the process of attaining the resources that will guarantee the success of the business. That is; it includes attaining the right skills to manage the project, tools, and other requirements such as the right public security, right team to manage and ensure success of the project. Resourcing involves getting the right team to manage and lead the project by increasing the success of the team, and by developing the right risk plan that considers all the elements that may affect the success of the business. Based on the objectives of the project, the skills of the team members are developed. Each team members skills is allocate with the appropriate responsibilities, ensuring that everyone is aware of their skills throughout the music festival. The expertise range of the team members and experience is also used in allocating the time and responsibilities. Thus, the importance of using the HRM approach is the possibility of identifying the strength and weaknesses of the team members, thus effectively allocate duties (Tjosvold, 2008). Staffing and festival requirements is an approach of human resource as well. The approach involves ensuring all the requirements for the project are attained by using the brainstorming process to determine the needs of that may continue to change throughout the music festival. Staffing and providing festival requires is considered as an on-going process that ends when the music festival ends. 2.3.2.2 Risk Public Safety is one of the key issues that must be accounted for during any event. Possible problems such as theft, radicalism and other acts of violence may happen during such an event since the multitude of the people attacks threats as such. Thus, providing crowd and safety control throughout the crowd should ensure public safety. That is; some of the security services will be dressed like the crowd to have a good eye on the people while increasing the security provided. That is; the site should be analyzed by considering the exit and entry points, where security guards are placed to ensure that everyone entering and leaving the site is accounted for, and are not considered as a security threat. The power of the site should also be maintained where in case of a blackout they have alternative lighting options, which reduce the possibility of a threat occurring. The safety of the public or audience that attend the three-day music festival is the key to guaranteeing the success of the music festival. Incident management approach is the risk planning strategy where the project manager provides the first aid arrangements on site. More importantly, the project manager should communicate with the crowd throughout including informing them on the best direction in case of an emergency. The incident plan is important since it helps the project manager and team members to communicate effectively to the crowds on where to get emergency first aid, the police to contact in case of an emergency, contacts for fire departments, hospitals, ambulance and other meeting points in case of any other problem. Planning for emergencies is important since it shows that the project teams or manager is prepared for anything that may threaten the wellbeing of the audience or the success of the project. Incident planning is important in relation to the project due to the threat of the unknown. Incident planning as a risk management process is important since it gives the team variables that may influence their leadership and problem solving since it narrows the blind spots that may affect the success of their project. 2.3.2.3 Leadership/management Laissez faire is the leadership approach where the team members of group are given the power to make decisions. It is the best option since it gives the team members the freedom to make decisions based on the current situation (Rahim, 2010). Thus, because this is a music festival event for three days consecutively, numerous unforeseen problems may occur. Thus, it is important that the team members have the freedom to make decisions hastily, which may avoid the acceleration of the problem at hand. Collaborating and problem solving is the best solution for dealing with any problems. In the music festival, the approach ensures that the team members despite their roles and skills brainstorm together and develop the best solution to a problem. Thus, the benefit of this conflict management strategy is ensuring that all problems are handled quickly with the best solution (de Wit, et al., 2012). Conflicts are bound to occur during any businesses and projects, between the teammates, and occasionally between teammates and the customers. Thus, the best wat to solve this issue is by staying calm, and learning to collaborate with others to brainstorm the best solutions for the problem at hand. Collaboration gives the people the power to understand others including their perspectives, which is attained by listening. More importantly, it allows others to get new approaches to solve problems and enforce the interest of others to ensure they resolve a problem efficiently. In collaboration, the people deal with the problem, not the person whom the problem surrounds. It ensures the people avoid blaming each other or pointing figures, but focus on solving the problem, which benefits the project by ensuring that all the people are focused on solving problems, which shows that the leadership and management of the project is efficient. 3. CONCLUSION The project deals with proposing the best plans for a 3-day music festival in Australia. Through resource planning, risk and leadership, planning the festival will be a success. However, this does not stipulate that problems may not develop; it shows that they can be managed effectively and right on the spot and narrows the possible unknown incidents that may require brainstorming. The success of the music festival will be determined by evaluating whether the objectives of the event are attained, which will influence the successful attainment of the next event. The main aim of the project is attaining the set objectives and goals, which include ensuring the protection and safety of the public while at the same time; it ensures the success of the project is met. The project demonstrates the importance of planning prior to the occurrence of the event through management planning of the daily schedules and other important elements of the event. 4.
