Management Communication Name Institution Course Date Management Communication A01. Environmental cues influence the expectation of language among the participants. Some environmental cues include objects associated with money making like people wearing suits, visceral cues, disorder, barriers etc. (Keizer, Linderberg and Steg, 2008). Environmental cues can have an impact on the expectation for communication as they influence the willingness of people to act and intervene when it comes to communicating (Lindenberg and Steg, 2007). Environmental cues often trigger significant reactions out of people and encourage them to behave in a certain way and respond in particular ways. Environmental cues directly influence behaviour which then influences the expectation for communication. A02. A communicator is responsible to the audience as they are required to create a communication climate that fosters caring and mutual understanding (Bovee and Thill, 2008). Communicators are expected to examine their attitudes, beliefs and values by interacting with others in order to blend well with the beliefs and attitudes of the audiences. Communicators have the responsibility of presenting dynamic relationships that audience can gasp (Bovee and Thill, 2008). On the other hand, audiences have responsibilities towards the speakers. The success of a speech is dependent on the audiences. A speech is considered a participatory endeavour that requires the contribution of both the speaker and the audience (Bovee and Thill, 2008). The audience is supposed to pay attention, answer and ask questions, respond and evaluate the speech. A03. Thoughts can have some influence on the use of language. Language is termed as the system of symbols, gestures and signs used to communicate thoughts (Steels and Belpaeme, 2005). Often, thoughts magically come to us while we are communicating. These thought may influence how we communicate. Expanding the ability to think often expands the power of language (Christansen and Kirby, 2003). This is evident in children as their development of language goes hand in hand with their thinking. The expansion of our thought can enable the increase in words in the language vocabulary. A04. Human beings perceive things through the five senses. Language is a complex process that has tremendous power (Thorson, Korccok and Steller, 2013). This power suggests that language influence our thoughts and self-concepts. The influence of language on self-concept is so great and can even alter the perception of the dimension of time (Bell and Dayle, 2010). For instance, the Hopi tribe in America lack past tense for verbs which alter their perception the dimension of time as they may not be able to think about the past. Hopi tribe focuses on the present time since that the only time they can relate to (Bell and Dayle, 2010). Also, language in bilingual people affects self-concept. The language use of bilingual people shapes they think of themselves. A05. The article I analysed consists of an introduction, body and conclusion. It also has an attention statement and a residual message (Laszlo, 2003). The article has a headline and a heading that captures the attention of the audience. The attention statement in the article successfully captured my curiosity to continue reading. The introduction of the article entails clear statements that the audiences can relate to and explain why the message portrayed is important (Bell and Dayle, 2010). It also highlights what is in the body and lays out the arrangement of the body. The introduction also explains why the topic is important. The body of the article starts with a topic sentence then the supporting sentence and then the concluding sentence. This arrangement allows a clear flow of information and transition. This guides the readers from one point to the other. In addition, the conclusion summarizes all the main points included in the body and offers a number of recommendations. This reminds the audiences about the main ideas and conveys a sense of accomplishment. The article has organised ideas in such a way that the audience are able to remember and retain the main ideas. A06. Doublespeak is the utilization of words and phrases to cover, obscure or change meaning (Bell and Dayle, 2010). In bureaucratic communication, it serves to cast a person in an unfavourable light. For instance, in the army, “collateral damage” is used to mean civilian death. In addition, “genocide” may be referred to as “ethical cleansing” which is considered less deadly. Doublespeak can be justified as it changes or switches words to made unpleasant situation sound less awful (Bell and Dayle, 2010). For instance, people often say that a person has “passed on” rather that a person has “died”. This assists in making a situation less awful. In addition, the use of doublespeak is justified as it is used to sound more polite, politically correct, for business purposes and to hide negativity (Bell and Dayle, 2010). Although the use of doublespeak in communication can lead to miscommunication and misinterpretation, in some situations, it is justified. A07. Examples of signposts used in the article I researched include “for one thing”, “in addition”, “for instance”, “also”, “therefore”, “in contrast”, “finally” and “for example”(Aras and Crowther, 2012). These signposts make the article more readable. It shows the flow of ideas and points. Use of signposts allows ideas to follow a logical order that create a flow. The ideas in the article flow well and make it obvious to the ready about the flow of points. The signpost in the article shows how the main ideas build on the thesis statement. They give information as to whether information is an example, an additional point or is a contrast to what has been mentioned (Bell and Dayle, 2010). A08. I have chosen writing from a book on fashion design. Some of the terms described include fashion design, haute couture, ready-to-wear and mass market (Hebrero, 2015). Fashion design is termed as the application of natural beauty and aesthetics to clothing and accessories. Haute couture is the fashion clothing that is designed on a made-to-measure basis with high-quality expensive fabric (Hebrero, 2015). On the other hand, ready-to-wear are clothing made in small quantities, rather expensive are presented during fashion week period. Mass market is seasoning clothing that caters for a huge number of customers with trends from famous fashion names (Hebrero, 2015). In order for readers to understand, the writer has explained the meaning of the jargon words with simple language. He has presented some of the terminologies with pictures and examples. A09. My self-concept is all about the aspect of image and esteem. My self-concept often influences how I communicate with people (Thorson, Korccok and Steller, 2013). The ability to think about why, what and how is very important to interpersonal communication and writing (Huitt, 2011). Part of the self-concept may be that I express myself through writing and texting. Self-concept assists in understanding myself and others and learns new things (Wechsler and Bell, 2006). Self-concept is made up of two important concepts; self-image and self-esteem. Self-image is how you describe yourself while self-esteem is how an individual feel about himself. Both self-esteem and self-image influence how I communicate particularly how I write. When communicating, my self-concept pays a fundamental role (McLeod, 2008). When I view myself as someone capable of writing and communicate, I have an easier time doing so and I become a good writer. A10. Psychology offers the concept of self-actualization which is considered as the growth of a person towards the fulfilment of the things that are important in life (Thorson, Korccok and Steller, 2013). In psychological context, self-actualization is the reaching of one’s full potential and the feeling of some degree of control and empowerment. As an individual progress beyond self-growth, his human curiosity about the world emerges (Schacter et al., 2011). Psychology offers some freedom to explore and discover the world around us. Self-actualization is able to enhance the psychological needs of the individuals. According to the field of psychology, reconstruction of one self is possible through self-expression and recognition of the things surrounding us (Schacter et al., 2011). The field of psychology offer the chance to develop highly creative people who are experienced and have the ability to control and enhance their lives. A11. The process of perception tends to limit our views. Perception is considered a complex process (McCreery, 2006). We often select what to attend to or view based on our perception. Perception influences what we pay attention to, what we remember and how we interpret communication (Siegel, 2005). How we perceive things is determined by a number of factors unique to an individual. Ones point of view is his or her perception of concept from experience or understanding and is unique in that it is influenced by factors such as race, physical characteristics, physical environment and social class to name a few (Siegel, 2005). Perception entails selection, organisation and interpretation of ideas and stimulus. This means that how we select and interpret the world influence our perception. A12. There are four listening styles including time, people, and action as well as content. Time-Oriented Listening Benefits People using this listening style covey detail information in a short period of time (Mineyama et al., 2007). Time oriented people are time conscious Drawbacks Time oriented people often become aggravated by slow delivery or long explanations Time oriented Listeners are considered rude and hostile as they lack long focus (Fassaert et al., 2007) People using this listening style tune out easily People-oriented Listener Benefits People-oriented people are curious and interested in the speakers. This makes them good listeners (Bell and Dayle, 2010). These people tend to appreciate the speaker. People-oriented effectively decode indirect messages They are empathetic and this assists them preserve long-term friendships and relationships. Drawbacks People-oriented overemphasize information and messages They get on nerves of the speakers Content listening Benefits Content oriented people often make informed decisions These people cannot be easily be persuaded by deceptive messages (Bell and Dayle, 2010). Content listeners have the ability to understand complicated topics Drawbacks Content-oriented people may annoy simple people. These people are considered hostile and overly critical They extensively interpret information Action listeners Benefits Action listeners are interested in social communication and philosophical discussion. They appreciate clear and direct communication (Bell and Dayle, 2010). Action listeners talk take up a lot of time when communicating information. Drawbacks Action speakers intimidate non-action listeners. They tend to be insensitive and impolite. A13. Psychological noises affect communication and impair the reception of message. There are some strategies that can be used to reduce these impacts (Rothwell, 2004). For instance, one effective strategy to overcome psychological noise is meditation. Meditation strengthens the concentration ability and offers mental peace that will enable minimize psychological noise (Schwartz, 2011). In addition, elimination of biases and stereotyping can enable a person minimize psychological noises in the long run. Stereotyping about a person’s race, height etc. can interfere with the encoding and decoding of information (Schwartz, 2011). Another way of reducing psychological noise is taking control of one’s emotion and feelings. It is clear that emotions and feelings interfere with overall communication (Schwartz, 2011). Good communication can come with listening ethically. It is important to create a climate of mutual understanding and respect in order to ensure effective communication. A14 From the email in the sub-module, I wouldn’t send the message to the lecturer. This is primarily because of it may be inappropriate to include it to the document due to the slang that may be present. Furthermore, I wouldn’t like to be professional therefore it would be a more valid reason of not (Aristotle, 2007) including it to my document. The professor is the speaker whereas the student is the audience. Therefore, when it comes to professor-student communication, the professor has a responsibility towards the audience which is the student and vice versa. Therefore, the student as an audience is expected to pay attention to the speaker who is the professor and actively participate in conversation which will result to effective communication between them (Johnson-Shehan, Richard and Charles, 2010). A15 Choice of words highly depends on the type of audience the message is being conveyed towards. The topic related to effects of sex in teenagers vary from one audience to the other especially how it is conveyed (Lunsford et al., 2004). The audience to be addressed to is parents and teenagers. When presenting the topic to parents, one might be a bit conserved due to the culture in which they have been raised in. On the other hand, when addressing the same topic to teenagers, one can be more open and involve his or her audience in the discussion (Thorson, Korcok and Staller, 2013). Therefore, the difference in the audience determines how one can address sensitive topics towards them. A16 At this time, everyone’s thoughts inclines towards vocational plans as well as home improvements. If you are considering a huge recreational acquisition, you ought to learn about the Magic Loans Home National Bank. This package cuts across every ethnic group considering every kind of customer (Johnson-Shehan, Richard and Charles, 2010). These loans can be utilized to acquire any kind of commodity you desire. They can be used as a home improvement loans for such items as private swimming pool. Therefore, if you possess equity in your household, you can complete a postage-paid replay card within this letter. Allow us to make your dream be a reality. A17 We at Natural beauty Products are proud to familiarize you with our most recent products as well as our services that array from fairness and beauty lotions. We ascertain you that our products are always at their best qualities and we never compromise on their quality standards (Thorson, Korcok and Staller, 2013). In addition our products are among the best products within the markets currently (Crowley, Sharon and Hawbee, 2004). This product is successful within the international markets and also has a very good reputation and are available at very competitive prices. Our current product is attracting a wide range of customers all over the world and we have received feedback that most of our clients are very satisfied with our product (Hoffner and Levine, 2005). We ascertain you that you’ll be contented with its effects and we kindly request that you can sample this product in your company and hoping for a fruitful business ahead with you (Harmon, 2006). A18 Within my company, I produce sealants as well as silicone tubes which are used for indoor and outdoor sealing, superior adhesions as well as flexible watertight seals (Richmond, Wrench and Gorham, 2009). These products come in a range of volumes: silicone sanitary white 90ml tubes and silicone sanitary transparent 90ml tubes. Companies such as Fripp Designs, Henry Company and Bassett Furniture are among the many companies with which I would like to market my silicone products to (Molyneaux et al., 2008). For instance, in Henry Company, they specifically deal with roofing systems, underlayments as well as reflective coating. Therefore, my product can appropriately be utilized within the company to effectively seal the roof components. Furthermore, in Bassett Furniture, they primarily deal with manufacturing furniture within America for a very long time (Wood and Smith, 2004). Their vision is to be the leading furniture manufacturing company within the United States of America. Therefore, my product can be used adequately within the company as proper contact adhesives for their products producing a fine product. Finally, Fripp Designs deal with interior décor which deals specifically with the installation of plumbing systems within a construction project (Levine, 2009). The company can effectively utilize silicone in sealing their pipes and sinks during installation giving a properly fit system that is leak-free. A19 A long resume is justifiable especially when one wants to communicate in depth information regarding a certain experience as well as skills which are either tangible or intangible. First and foremost, a resume is a manuscript that attempts to sell out an individual as a product (Thorson, Korcok and Staller, 2013). Therefore, it requires to attract buyers from their own perspective. A long resume therefore can be long particularly when a number of accomplishment need to be tightly written. In addition, a long resume should adequately describe what the skills required for a particular job and hence shouldn’t compromise on the presenting ones abilities with an intent of saving space (Bell and Dayle, 2010). Also, a resume can be long because an individual shouldn’t leave his or her reader in doubt with numerous questions therefore a long resume can be justified. Additionally, a resume can be long especially in the section prior to the employment history. This is chiefly because profile is the most important section of the resume. A20 A speaker can prepare a speech to a diverse audience first by understanding his or her audience before presenting it. First, the speaker ought to ensure that their audience understand and respond adequately as well as favourably to the speech (Fassaert et al., 2007). Therefore, it is important to identify ones audience and thus adapt the message to the audience. This approach is commonly referred to as audience-centered since it focuses solely on the audience. Knowing your audience is very significant because one learns the demographics such as age, religion, gender and culture to name a few (Kirby and Christiansen, 2003). Furthermore, learning about beliefs, values as well as the attitudes of the audience enables the speaker anticipate and plan your message. Identifying a common ground through taking perspectives also helps the speaker link with their audience thus aligning the message with what the audience already knows. Also a speaker can prepare a speech by collecting as well as interpreting information regarding the receivers of oral or visual communication (Bell and Dayle, 2010). The speaker can conduct interview on the supposed audience using elements of demographics of the population. A21 A rhetorical situation is defined as a complex of events as well as relations which demonstrate an actual or even a potential exigency that can either be entirely or partially eliminated if dissertation, introduced into the situation, can therefore constrain an individual’s decision or even action in order to cause important modification of the exigency (Rothwell, 2004). Hence, it is important to consider a rhetorical situation since it ought to exist as an essential condition that accompany rhetorical dissertation the same way a question ought to exists as a prerequisite of an answer. In addition, a rhetorical situation teaches the link between words learnt in a classroom with the world outside which can challenge and engage an individual in powerful methods of discovering how they can effectively utilize their knowledge as a means of persuasion in order to learn more (Thorson, Korcok and Staller, 2013). A22 When communicating the issue of tattoos, one has to take into consideration the issue of age group being communicated to (Thorson, Korcok and Staller, 2013). Therefore, when addressing the issue of tattoos to college students, one has to be sensitive about the topic since most of the college students embrace the culture of tattoos. Condemning tattoos openly and fiercely to college students may create an uproar and may eventually lead to poor communication. On the other hand, communicating the same issue to middle school children will be different since they are not accustomed to the culture thus it would be easier to communicate to this age group (Bell and Dayle, 2010). The method of communicating about sensitive topics such as tattoos differ from one group to the other. The method of communicating such issue to one group may not work to the other. A23 Organization of a presentation ought to adhere to the ethical codes that have been put in place. Ethics is therefore very essential for a presentation for it allows the consideration of information that are sensitive and that can cause discomfort to those attending the presentation (Clifford, 2009). This allows the presenters indicate such instances as abstract. In addition, ethics allows a presenters represent themselves accurately. A24 The five part structure of a speech includes attention statement, introduction, body, conclusion and residual message. Obama’s inaugural address speech has an attention statement since he seeks attention by recognizing the forty-four American presidents that came before him (Viswanth, 2008). He goes ahead and introduces a topic that affects America which is war. He introduces the topic vividly indicating the consequences that are as a result of the war which are inclusive of weakening of the economy as well as shredding of jobs and business failures. Furthermore, the speech has a concise body that addresses whether the American government is either too big or small and whether it works effectively to ensure that most families gain access to decent wages, an affordable healthcare system as well as a retirement benefit that is legit (Thorson, Korcok and Staller, 2013). The speech concludes by President Obama mentioning that this day will be a day of remembrance. Lastly, the speech also leaves a residual message by addressing the American citizens that they should remember the timeless words which are hope and virtue. He further said “let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storm may come”. http://obamaspeeches.com/ A25 Online marketing has highly transformed the world for it has opened markets to its potential customers. It has revolutionized the business industry by creating access through the internet as well as through websites in accessing various products and services from the comfort of someone’s home and workplace (Bell and Dayle, 2010). Organizing principles such as time and comparison can be used to analyze the technological innovation of online marketing. Marketing has evolved slowly from barter trade to monetary trade and finally to online marketing. Through time, online marketing has become the backbone of trade due to its convenience and time saving capabilities (Bell and Dayle, 2010). Also, the aspect of comparison has put online marketing on top of other trading methods. Comparing it to the earlier trading methods, online marketing has shown an increase in marketing activities due to its convenience. Earlier marketing methods used to be time consuming and inconvenient restricting a large population of people from gaining access to various products and services (Thorson, Korcok and Staller, 2013).
