The art of communication relates to the development of effective skills, as well as finding ideal style of communication with the ability to suit the practitioners engaging in the communication. One of the most important communication skills is the verbal communication skill. Verbal communication tends to incorporate any form of communication involving words: spoken, written, or signed. From this perspective, verbal communication relates to the ability and potentiality to communicate effectively and efficiently with a language, which is based on the organized system of words (Brill & Levine, 2005). The objective of this report is to highlight the role, importance, and influence of verbal communication skills among the Australian Federation Police. In addressing this objective, the report will highlight importance of verbal communication, overview of the agency, integration of the verbal communication skills in the institution while addressing implications of such skills in achievement of the agency goals. Importance of Verbal Communication We tend to utilize verbal communication to inform others of our needs, as well as impart knowledge. Evidently, clarification is an essential component of the verbal communication. In most cases, we do not articulate ourselves clearly or out words or actions undergo misconstruing (Woodside & McClam, 2002). Verbal communication is essential in enabling clarification of misunderstandings, thus, the platform to offer mission information. It is possible to use verbal communication to correct a wrong. Additionally, it is possible to use verbal communication as a tool of persuasion. The verbal communication skill provides the platform for the creation of an opportunity for debate, thus, the chance for the individuals to stimulate thought and creativity while deepening and creating new relationships. There is no better place to elaborate on the importance or influence of verbal communication skill other than the context of a law enforcement agency (Brammer & MacDonald, 2003). In this presentation/workforce, the focus will be on the utilization of the Australian Federal Police as a law enforcement agency aiming at creating and maintaining a safe and secure society. Overview of the Australian Federal Police It is the obligation of the AFP to engage in enforcing the criminal law while contributing towards combating complex, transnational, serious, and organized crime affecting the national security of Australia. Additionally, the institution has focused on the protection of the commonwealth interests from the criminal activity in Australia and overseas. On the other hand, it is the responsibility of the AFP to offer policing services to the Australian territories and events or activities. It is valuable for the agency to engage in working closely with a range of other law enforcement and government institutions at the territory, state, commonwealth, and international contexts (Nelson-Jones, 1992). The approach is ideal in enabling the agency to enhance safety and offer secure regional, as well as the global environment for all practitioners. The institution places emphasis on the investigation of the complex, serious, and transnational criminal activities. Furthermore, the institution focuses on protecting Australians and their interests against violent extremism, as well as acts of terrorism. The AFP comes out as the principal international representative for the Australian police, as well as law enforcement practice. In this context, the institution has focused on developing and incorporating unique capabilities with the intention of exploiting advanced technology in the provision of the utmost value in accordance with the national interests of the citizens. The vision of the company is to fight crime together, thus, an opportunity to win as a group in making the society secure and safe. In the course of achieving this goal, the institution has focused on offering dynamic, as well as effective law enforcement to the citizens of Australia. Similarly, the institution focuses on the integration of diverse personal values, which are critical to the way it executes its business. These values include commitment, integrity, trust, accountability, fairness, excellence, and respect. Need for the Verbal Communication Skill at the AFP In the aforementioned statement, it is the obligation of the institution to provide quality services in pursuit of secure and safe communities (Okun, 2002). In the course of achieving this goal, the law enforcement officials tend to communicate with four main types of people on a daily basis. It is valuable to demonstrate the fact that each of these practitioners requires different tone in the communication process. In the first instance, law enforcement practitioners have the obligation to communicate to the dispatchers. In this form of communication, there is need for clarity, precision, curt, and right to the point. The approach integrates facts in the form of communication (Lindon & Lindon, 2000). Integration of the verbal communication skills will enable law enforcement agency to communicate with precision and clarity in accordance with the expectations of the dispatchers. Secondly, law enforcement agencies communicate with suspects on their daily activities and practices towards making the society a safe and secure place for all parties. In the course of interacting or dealing with the suspects, it is valuable for the officers to adopt and incorporate effective verbal communication skills with the intention or objective of expressing authority and directness. From this perspective, verbal communication skill is highly essential for the police officers or law enforcement agencies in enhancing their authority while dealing with the suspects regarding diverse criminal issues. In the third instance, law enforcement officers have the opportunity to deal or interact with victims while executing their obligations and roles as members of the society. In this aspect, there is need for the officers to adopt a new tone when communicating to the victims. Evidently, integration of the verbal communication skills will be valuable in enabling the law enforcement officers to demonstrate compassion and softness regardless of the fact that they remain as clear as possible during the communication process (Hepworth, Rooney, Rooney, & Strom-Gottfried, 2016). The approach will be vital in enabling the officers to create a valuable environment to interact effectively and efficiently with the victims in pursuit of quality opportunity for making the society a better place. Finally, the law enforcement officers or practitioners have the tendency to communicate or interact with the civilians in the form of the community policing practices. In the course of communicating verbally with the witnesses and other members of the communication, it is vital for the practitioners to engage in the tone variation. Evidently, active listening is an essential element in the determination of the most appropriate tone to use in communicating with the civilians by the members of the law enforcement agency. Implications From the above illustration, it is ideal to highlight that the police officers or law enforcement practitioners have the tendency to engage in diverse communication processes and environments. In the course of addressing these goals and obligations, it is valuable for the police officers to have enormous understanding and comprehension of the verbal communication skills. The modern training programs for such agencies should aim at improving the skills among the officers in pursuit of the organizational goals and targets regarding the safety and security of the community (Young, 2005). Integration of verbal communication will be ideal in enabling the officers to determine the most effective and efficient approach to communicate with the target audiences. Conclusion Conclusively, verbal communication skill is vital in facilitating authority and precision among the officers while executing their roles and expectations. Categorically, verbal communication skills will enhance efficiency in the delivery of quality services and products by the officers. Furthermore, ideal verbal skills is critical in enabling the practitioners to create quality environment for cooperation among the relevant stakeholders in making the society a safe and secure place against diverse crimes (Thorpe & Petruchinia, 1992). Consequently, officers with ideal verbal communication skills have the ability and the platform to present their views and thoughts effectively and efficiently in the service delivery.
