Installation of Fire Sprinkler System - Speech or Presentation Example

The paper "Installation of Fire Sprinkler System" is a perfect example of a speech/presentation on management. The aim is to enhance community safety by encouraging the installation of sprinklers in homes of those considered most at risk like the elderly and physically and emotionally disabled.

Since this project will be SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ACHIEVABLE, AND TIMED, the objectives are to develop an effective way of encouraging people to install sprinkler, develop new prevention and risk-based fire safety strategy following the provisions of the Fire and Rescue Service Act 2004, finally, to increase the number of homes with fire sprinklers by mid-April 2011.

The important benefits of installing a fire sprinkler system in homes are reduced occurrence or probability of fire. Less fire means less threat to life and property. Next is improved life safety, less damage to property, and increase the possibility of escape because the fire will be automatically suppressed just after ignition. Moreover, installing fire sprinklers can eliminate unnecessary trauma or sufferings because the fire will be suppressed immediately and people will be more secure and do not have to panic or run for their safety.

The cost of this project is dependent on staffing requirements, materials, and equipment that will be used as shown in the table “Cost of the Project”. The project duration is 5 weeks will total expenditure is approximately £10, 550 pounds. The table is showing the personnel required and the project materials and equipment with their respective cost.

The business case of this project is mainly based on the reality of fire and practicality of installing fire sprinklers. Without any immediate suppression, fire can totally destroy property, kill and injure people particularly those that are old and with disability. Fire suppression is fast and therefore no time wasted or needs to sound the alarm and discover the fire. Fire will not grow since sprinkler will put it out after ignition and therefore no need to call and wait for the fire and rescue service. More importantly, sprinklers have a good reputation or track record in fire control. Owners of the building will also benefit since insurance companies often ask for fewer insurance premiums when there are fire sprinklers installed. The event tree analysis will show us the difference between sprinklered and non-sprinklered buildings.

Since there will be no threat of a raging fire, there is no need to install additional partition resulting in more savings for the building owner. Community functioning will not be disrupted by the consequence of fire and because there is less fire, the Fire and Rescue Service will spend less and save more.

The cost of the project is small compared to the benefits mentioned earlier and investment in fire sprinklers will not go to waste since it is proven fire suppression technology.

The tasks required by the project are shown in this table. It includes preparation of PID, submission, and acceptance of the Project Director, planning, implementation, monitoring, and assessment.

The project manager is the overall in-charge of the project and responsible for directing members to the goal of the project. He will be monitoring the activities and reviewing the plan for proper execution.

The Project coordinator coordinates the resources and other requirements of the project. He will be also coordinating with community leaders and other agencies that may be required by the project from time to time.

The Fire Sprinkler Campaign Manager generally manages the campaign officers who will collect data necessary for the project. He will compile and organize this information and submit it to the Project Manager for review.

The Fire Sprinkler Campaign Officers will be conducting a survey of sprinklers use in homes of the most at risk and get their views or perception about fire sprinkler and their safety.

The Fire Sprinkler Consultant is a technical person who would act as a resource person in matters such as specification and installation requirements.

The SWOT analysis shown here will tell us the strength, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that may be encountered by this project. For example, the strength of this project is “increase use of fire sprinkler” but the high cost of installation may prevent residents to accept the idea as shown in the first line of the “Weaknesses” box.  Based on this SWOT analysis, the project created its mitigation strategy (on the LEFT side of the slide) to ensure the success of the activities and completion of the project.

The integrity of documents is very important and therefore this project created a document management plan. Since the final documents are intended to encourage vulnerable members of the community, it must be therefore clear and presented in a very convincing way. It must be compiled and submitted for a review then mark whenever revision or changes occur to avoid confusion. All members will participate in the review to be able to identify errors and discrepancies in documents. Once finalized, it will be submitted for final approval.
