National Project Coordination Committee Introduction and Greetings The National Project Coordination Committee, NPCC, developed this annual report, which would be presented in 2014’s National Convention as a primary requirement. The Convention would be held in Atlanta, Georgia between June 27 and 29. The NPCC developed the report as a partial requirement for the strategies established by Booker T. Washington Institute National Alumni Association of North America’s (BWINAANA). The main issues to be included in the report include but not limited to duties as well as responsibilities of the committee, projects under implementation consideration, and strategic planning processes for BWINAANA. On behalf of NPCC members, I would like to welcome other members of the committee officially and express felicitate for their endless support and efforts to ensure that NPCC achieves most of its objectives. I also hope that the same spirit continues to be the key driving force in the implementation of both present and future projects to be approved by BWINAANA. It is of importance to note that the committee’s achievements and priorities for the period of 2013 and 2014 have not yielded the anticipated goals. This has been attributed to laxity of some members, which is one of the areas intended for rectification as the year progresses. Laxity would also be identified as a key issue during the BWINAANA National Convention. Duties and Responsibilities of the Committee As appointed by the national President, the NPCC comprises members that include John S. Fahnbutu, Chairperson, Mrs. Doris Railey Kieh, Co-Chairperson, Mr. Isaac Dee, technical advisor, Dr. Joe Isaac, the Planning Coordinator, and Mr. Henry Fallah Charyoe, committee’s Secretary while Mr. Mamandee Kamara retains the permanent Membership position. One aspect of the appointment process that must be identified is the validity through which the BWINAANA National President conducted the vetting and final verdict. This is because the process did not encounter any form of rejection from the members. During the appointment, all members present accepted the committee’s decision and consecrated to work with the NPCC in accomplishing highly elevated performances and realization of the association’s key goals. This is presented as an encouragement for the Executive Council, which is then required to promise to work in unison in providing the best form of leadership to the association in all operation levels. Similarly, all new appointees are made aware of their jurisdictional operational areas as well as the key responsibilities attached to them. I would then like to outline the main duties and responsibilities that the NPCC members are required to fulfill. In relation to BWINAANA’s key operational objectives, the NPCC requires its members to compose a 5-year plan as well as coordinate BWINAANA’s key activities from both the local and international perspectives. Nevertheless, the funding process is taken as a shared responsibility of the Executive Committee and the advisory board and is allocated according to the needs of a project. The other responsibility entrusted on the committee is to maintain, supervise, and report all project chapters to BWINAANA. In this responsibility, the supervision process helps in enhancing completion of the projects under the National Association. This improves the image as well as the reputation of the Association and the overall committee responsible for all projects undertaken by BWINAANA. The committee, through its chairperson, is expected to make the operational vision clear and provide opportunities for greater performances. The need to link the vision of the National association and its image is mostly achieved when the Executive Council members acknowledge their roles as being very important to the association. From the delegation’s perspective, the National Association’s president retains the highest position where the Executive Council serves the association under the NPCC Chairperson’s directives but through the National president. Otherwise stated, the Association is founded under a culture of seniority that must be followed by all members. The seniority aspect allocates the president with the responsibility of assigning additional duties outside those performed by the NPCC. Projects under implementation consideration Some of the main projects that have been approved by BWINAANA for implementation include development of a strategic plan for BWINAANA, establishment of the Phelps Stokes Educational Resource Center, and the construction of a football stadium in the California chapter. However, the construction of the football stadium still awaits approval from EC and the General Assembly. Mr. President, the members of the General Assembly at this convention, I would like to make the NPCC members aware of the projects so that full implementation can be enhanced mostly from the perspectives of allocation of finances and human resources. The NPCC is expected to consider both associated costs and completion time while ensuring complete implementation. These aspects comprise some of the most crucial parts as far as the project developers are concerned. In addition, these aspects must always reflect a true picture for all activities presented through the project. One of the most important projects in the National Association’s cycle is the Phelps Stokes Educational Resource Center. The project is expected to offer training as well as learning facilities following its completion. The center is expected to provide modern learning facilities as well as traditional ones and must correspond with the changing educational systems in the contemporary world. As the key resource center in the facility, the committee expects to construct a post-modern library to serve the students, staff members, as well as the public for personal and coursework studies. Besides the library, the committee will establish fully equipped computer laboratories with Internet ratings and high installations to help the students in completion of their coursework in time. Generally, the Phelps Stokes Educational Resource Center is expected to provide for the best interests of the students, the staff, and the public, when fully implemented. Strategic plan process for BWINAANA Purpose The strategic plan process and format for BWINAANA is the second project for the committee and focuses most of its attention on the institution’s health and future opportunities with a key intention in the minimization of operational risks. In the second project, the main role of the committee is to establish a framework, which would project the levels of the institution’s commitment for the future and function as a guide towards the fulfillment of the mission and visions of the association. If the third project, the football stadium, is approved and implemented, the association theorizes a full transformation of football and additional games at the Booker T. Washington Institute in Kakata, Liberia. Mission and vision NPCC’s mission is to achieve the position of a highly integrated national project coordinator, which serves the best interests of both the global population and BWINAANA with highly developed projects as well as appropriate executable plans for implementation. This mission is based on the association’s key operational pillars namely, design, incorporation, as well as development for creating change in modern operational standards. In relation to NPCC’s goals, the operations are regulated by the main objective that was designed as a vision statement. The vision statement is designing achievable projects as well as enhancing proper allocation of the available capital for growth and anticipated project progress. Environmental Scanning (Internal and External): SWOT Analysis Model The main strength of NPCC is the stakeholders who incorporate project developers, donors, as well as learning institutions. All stakeholder categories are responsible, highly experienced, and determined in making committee to progress in its activities as expected. The only identifiable weakness of the committee is burdening the members to get involved actively in NPCC’s activities. Constituencies/ Stakeholders The stakeholders of BWINAANA incorporate educational institutions, students, donor, faculty, the public, and the government of Liberia. The association functions at the best interests of the stakeholders. To ensure that this is fulfilled, the association ensures that all stakeholders are made aware of any strategic plans before they are executed. This establishes good relations within and outside the premises of the association. Steps The NPCC establishes specific steps that ensure the fulfillment of the stakeholders’ needs. The initial step incorporates the establishment of a mission statement, which reflects the goals of BWINAANA. The mission statement must be linked with the long-term objectives of the association. The goals are expected to be realistic, achievable, and viable. The second step incorporates sharing of the national objectives with all members and other stakeholder categories. This is accomplished through an efficient and an elaborate communication process. The third step in project development obligates the committee in making sure that the planning process is consistent with the needs of the individuals involved, the timeline of the project, and associated costs. The final step incorporates counterchecking the various planning processes so as to identify and improve on existing project weaknesses for project compatibility. Survey of BWINAANA Members for the Strategic Plan BWINAANA officials expected to attend the project planning processes include committee members, national officers, Board of Advisors, and other association members. All members’ contributions are considered important towards the entire planning process. Fundraising event For a full execution of the proposed approved projects, the NPCC organizes fundraising events. The fundraising event is a collaborated idea between BWINAANA and the NPCC. The committee expects to raise high funds that could be used in support of the projects through fundraising dinners and donations. Read More
