Leading a team or group of followers is a genuine skill that takes time, commitment, conviction, thought and dedication from my side. Leadership is one of the most important aspects of my life. I want to be a leader like my grandmother. I want to be a businessman like my grandmother. She is a role model for me. Leadership is important for me because it is the leadership which would bring me success or failure in my future business. Sometimes I feel that leading a team or a group of people is very complex and tough. But if I focus on some leadership fundamentals it would be very easy for me to lead my own team and business in a very successful way. With the help of this journal I would try to capture all different aspects of leadership abilities. This journal would discuss about my learning about leadership. I would discuss different leadership theories. As I want to develop my own business so it is very important for me to develop my own leadership style. It is very important that I focus on my leadership abilities to be a successful businessman as my grandmother. The journal would clarify all my points of view about different facets of leadership. In my business I have to lead a group of team members. It is my leadership ability which would make my business different from other competitor businesses. Leadership is very important for any business. In my case the scenario is same. This journal would help me to get the detailed scenario regarding leadership. Leadership definition discussion According to me leadership can be defined as the quality of showing a right track to a group of people. I feel a leader must have a clear vision for its organization and business. A leader is one who can communicate his vision among its followers and all those followers follow that vision. A leader would be supportive and participative in nature. I think a leader would help his follower to reach to his goal. A leader is one who would emerge at the point of serious crisis and would rescue his follower from that crisis. I feel a transformational leader is one who could inspire his or her followers. Transformational leader would be an exemplary leader for his follower. I feel transformational leader is such a person who would portray himself in such a way that everyone would follow him without questioning anything. I do feel transformational leaders can motivate their followers heavily. All the followers would be motivated and would work hard for their goal. A transformational leader can make its followers more enthusiastic and energetic in nature. Transformational leaders can make their follower more and more creative in their work. This kind of leadership theory tells that leaders are very concerned about each and every individual. Transformational leadership would bring a positive change in the life of their followers. In this type of leadership followers have high expectation from their leaders. It gives lots of focus to team building management. In this style of leadership followers treat their leaders as role model. I feel transformational leaders encourage its group members and followers heavily. Encouragement is very important for followers. This kind of leadership model also focuses on the emotional aspect of and relationship between leader and followers. I feel transformational leaders can change lives of their followers. For charismatic leaders charm and grace is very important. I feel a charismatic leader has tremendous self believe. This kind of leaders shifts total attention towards his follower when interacting with them. This type of leaders gives highest importance to his followers. In this style of leadership leaders are considered as hero by their followers. Charismatic leaders would clarify their vision very well among the followers. They would take the help of different stories and metaphors to communicate their vision among followers. I feel a charismatic leader irrespective of any field would try to create a team which would be different from other teams. A charismatic leader is very much sensitive about the environment and atmosphere and also very sensitive about their followers. I feel charismatic leaders have higher risk taking ability from others. In this style of leadership followers are having almost blind faith on their leaders. I do believe that leaders are more expressive in nature. They try to express their ideas very clearly without any confusion. I feel authentic leaders would prove their legitimacy among their followers with the help of honest relationship building capabilities and give their followers a chance to speak their thoughts in the open. I believe that authentic leaders are very genuine and original in nature. They do not believe in copying any other leadership styles. Leaders would create their own style of leadership. Authentic leaders always think in terms of long term goals. I feel authentic leaders are very focus driven in nature. The authentic leaders are very emotional and lead from their heart. I believe authentic leaders would leave a legacy behind them which is to be followed by different generations. Ethics and moral of this kind of leaders are very strong. My opinion is that they always speak the truth. Lessons I learned about leadership Here in this section of the journal my learning’s about the leadership would be discussed. I learned a lot from all these classes. I have gained enough knowledge from my week 9 presentation about positive leadership. I learned that previously people were more concerned with what went wrong in their assigned task. Positive leadership has changed that whole concept. According to this theory a positive leader should always search positivity out of everything. If leaders are always searching for what went wrong then it would put mental pressure on their followers. It would lead frustration and depression among team members. It would be counterproductive for those followers. On the other hand if leaders only focus on the positivity then it would enhance the moral and creativity of team members. I learned that positive leaders would focus on strengths of their followers. Positive leaders would make their followers more resilient. I also learned that positive leaders are very much concerned with the betterment of their followers. Self efficiency is very much important for being a good successful leader. I think that self efficient leaders can enhance their task performance very well. Self efficiency and task performance are directly related for any leader. I learned that positive idea can change my life. I got to know that confidence is very important to increase work performance. I came to know that there is not that much differences in the leadership styles of men and women. I learned that leadership styles of a woman are not only judged on the basis of their leadership ability but also on the basis of gender. Gender discriminations are a big challenge for women leaders. I also learned that women leadership can be more transformational in nature. I learned that there is a huge trade off between whether leadership is an inborn ability or it can be nurtured. I learned from the great man theory that leadership is something which is inborn. It cannot be taught. It also states that great leaders always come in front when time calls. It says that there are certain characteristics’ and attributes present within the leaders from their birth. I also learned from this theory that leaders are having some special characteristics in them that make them different from others. I also learned that leaders would have natural aristocracy in them. I gained the knowledge that there are certain traits which are obvious for leaders. I learned from trait theory that leader’s traits differ from non leader’s traits. There are certain core traits which are very common for good leaders. Leaders are very well driven by achievements. It also states that leaders are highly motivated in nature. I learned that leaders are having high level of energy and tenacity to perform any task. I also got the idea that leaders always take responsibilities before any other persons. It also teaches me that some kind of leadership traits cannot be taught. Intelligence level of a leader cannot be trained. Honesty of a leader is a virtue that cannot be taught to a leader. I learned a lot about leadership and its impact on organization culture. I learned that leadership and organizational culture are very closely related. Leadership has huge impact on organization culture. I studied that one leader can be a creator of organization culture. He can create the whole culture of the organization with its style of leadership. I learned that leader can play a role of connector between the organization culture and members of the organization. In this role leaders bring all his team members in line with the culture of the organization. Leaders help his team member to follow the organization culture. I further learned that leaders can bring changes in organization culture. In this case the leader is having much influence and charisma that he or she only can bring change into the organization culture. I learned that values and ethics is also a very important unavoidable part of any successful leader. I learned that Australian leadership style is generally transformational in nature. I came to know that Americans do identify and recognize charismatic leadership to a very high level. I also learned that Asian leadership style is highly dependent on personal relationship. How can I personally develop my own leadership? I have to choose one admirable leader for me. My grandmother is an admirable leader for me. She is a leader in both at her work place and in her family. She is a role model in my life. At first I have to identify different traits of her that portrays her leadership abilities in front me. Then I would try to relate those traits with my traits. I am not going to copy my grandmother at any level. I will try to develop myself as a genuine leader. I would play more of a transformational leadership role for my business team member. I would be very supportive and participative with my team members. I would have clear goal for my team. I would communicate my goal properly in front of my team members. My communication would be in such a manner that it would help my group members to recharge and to get energy and feel motivated for their task. I would transform my group member’s life positively with my way of leadership. I would inspire my group members with my own dedication and commitment. I am very passionate, enthusiastic and energetic in nature with help of all these attributes. I will certainly influence my team members in a positive way and would help them to reach their career goal. I will focus on my task but at the same time I will be very friendly and supportive with my team members. I will bring intellectual stimulation in my leadership style where I will give freedom to my team members to be more creative in their works. Every individual team members can give me their valuable ideas and advices. I will work in such a way that it would create an example in front of my team members and they would try to follow me very strongly. I will guide my all team members towards their goals. I will be very confident about myself and will be self efficient to increase performance of my task. I will not discriminate any gender and will give both men and women same importance in my leadership. I will try to be a positive leader. I will try to be very optimistic and always would search for positive aspects of every thing. It will motivate my team members greatly. My team members would be free from any mental pressure and can perform very well without any fear of failure. I will give due credit to my all team members for their success. I will never blame my team members alone for any failure. In this way team members would feel a sense of responsibility and commitment. I will demonstrate my level of commitment in front of my team members. It will influence them to reach to the same level of commitment. My team member success is my success. I will take conflicts always in a positive way. Honesty and morality would be two important aspects of my leadership. I will not indulge any dishonest and immoral activity in my leadership. I will create culture for my business and that culture would bond my team member together. It will guide all team members to work together. My leadership style will not be authoritative at all. Every leadership theory has its own advantages and disadvantages. No leadership theory is free from limitations. I will design my own leadership style uniquely with a balanced combination of all different leadership theories. In this way I will develop my personal leadership. My leadership style would keep every detailed aspect into consideration. I am a singer and I believe that the above kind of leadership would help me to become a successful business man in future. Conclusion I am going towards a remarkable transformation in my life. I am supposed to be a singer or actor in Singapore. This leadership study is making me a business man. The study has changed me significantly. It has given me lots of positive energy. It has motivated me immensely. I am feeling lot more energetic and enthusiastic about my business. The study has inspired me to chase my dream. It helped me to set a clear cut goal for me. It has increased my level of confidence. It has helped me to think for the long run. It acted as a guideline for me. It enlightens me about different factors of leadership. It has generated an inner feeling of leadership inside me. I am feeling passionate about my business. It has made me a different person. It has made me more courageous and my risk taking abilities have increased. All theories have taught me importance of team works and have made me a better team member than before. It has educated me about the importance of the relationship between leader and followers. It has cleared all my confusions very effectively. It has influenced me heavily and made me a different person all together. This leadership journal has act as a changing agent for me.
