Global hospitality industry is becoming highly potential as well as competitive. It is true that, hospitality industry is playing an important role in the economic growth of several developed and developing countries. Therefore, it is important for the organizations within the hospitality industry to develop effective management and leadership skills in order to maintain their competitive edge in global market place. It is highly important for the managers in the hospitality industry to develop effective managerial and leadership strategies and skills in order to maintain effective workplace environment. However, frequent changes in business environment make it important for the hospitality managers to develop potential skills in order to establish and maintain a bright career. Recently, several organizations within the global hospitality industry are trying to develop and implement workplace diversity strategy in business operation process in order to enhance strategy development and knowledge sharing process. Moreover, several leading domestic and multinational organizations are trying to make changes in goal development and strategy implementation process due to constant and critical changes in global business environment. Therefore, it is highly essential for the managers to assess own management skill performance. However, this assignment will first of all assess my own management skill performance. Then this study will conduct a SWOT analysis of my own management skill performance based on the assessment. Finally, the report will try to review my each and every career and personal development needs, current performance, and future needs in order to establish a development plan. Discussion It is highly important for a manager in the hospitality industry to assess own management skill performance in order to enhance a bright career in near future. Assessment of Management Skill Performance Communication skill is one of my major personal as well as managerial strengths that help me to meet the developed organizational goals. It is true that employees are the major assets of an organization. It is highly important for each and every manager in an organization to maintain effective relationship between the employees and top level management through transparent and cl.ear communication. I always try to listen to both personal and professional needs and wants of employees as it is an important job responsibility of manager. A manager in a hospitality organization cannot motivate employees without listing to the needs and demands of the employees. Therefore, I always listen to their needs. On the other hand, i used to understand each and every strategy and goal developed by my top level management. It helps me a lot about how to set required action plans in order to motivate employees to meet the developed goals and objectives. I always try to act as a strong bridge between management and employees in order to maintain effective workplace environment. This effective communication skill and my extrovert nature help me to reduce the possibility of communication gap between the employees and top level management. It generally reflects in the workplace as well as business performance of the organization. It is true that hospitality industry can be regarded as a service industry in which effective customer service provided by organization actually helps an organization to gain a potential competitive advantage in this competitive global business environment. Therefore, it is highly important for me to develop and implement effective leadership skill in my managerial process in order to motivate employees to enhance effective customer relationship management process. I have implemented democratic and supportive leadership style in the management process as it helps to take care of both the personal and professional needs of employees. In return each and every employee tries to give his or her full potential to enhance effective customer service management process (Punia, 2004, p.92). Therefore, it automatically helps to maintain a conflict free workplace environment. At the end of the day, it automatically helps to reduce the possibility of employee poaching and high employee turnover. As a whole, it can be stated that my management skill performance is fair and helped my organization to maintain a competitive position in the market place. SWOT Analysis SWOT analysis of an individual highlights the internal strengths and weaknesses of a person along with external opportunities and threats that an individual is exposed to. This essay includes SWOT analysis of a manager who works in the hospitality sector of an organization. Strengths Effective communication skill is one my important strength. Communication skill helps to create a bridge between management and employees. Management always focus on productivity which is beneficial for growth of an organization. Employees on the other hand have their own individual views regarding assignment and completion of a job provided to them. N order to reduce the gap between employee and management it is necessary to communicate clearly with management about the amount of work load employees can handle. On the other hand it is necessary for employees to understand the organizations interest and complete given targets in time. My biggest strength is communication skill which has helped to maximize and maintain the organizations growth abilities. One of the other important feature that I poses as a manager is maintaining a strong data base and maintaining high level contacts outside the organization. In order to make appropriate deals it is very important to make new contacts and preserve the existing contacts. This has been an important job of a manager in a hospitality management industry. Hence this has been my prime target to preserve proper contacts. With the help of contacts there have been huge developments in the organization. The most important achievement is the relations that I have made in these years being in the position of a manager. There are people who have recognized this ability and in-terms it has helped in growth of the organization and me. The resource that is possessed by me being a manager has helped me to sustain in the industry with proper respect as well as it has helped employees to work under limited pressure. Weaknesses Despite several positive strengths there are some weaknesses in every person related to the working atmosphere. The most important weakness that I have observed is sharing real time data with hierarchy. Pointing out differences between employees has been a major problem in me. There are some employees in the organization who are not smart workers, they work hard to accomplish their tasks but always lag behind others. Featuring out their problems is easy because being a manager I have access to other employees data. However showing real time data to my bosses can be a problem for other employees. Hence manipulating data in order to retention of employees is a weakness of me being a manager. Another weakness is that I possess short temper. Though a fair chance is given to all employees but not meeting targets increases my pressure and I get stressed out. Hence loosing temper has been one of my major problems. Though several steps have been taken by me to control the situation and react in appropriate manner still there are circumstances when a manager cannot control his emotions and it results in lack of stress management. Moreover speaking out in public forums has also been a challenge to me and it has let my moral go down in several places. There have been remedial steps taken by me to overcome these situations and hence proper has been one of my recognitions in the organization. Opportunities Internet is a very common medium in the modern world in order to connect with employees and management in an organization. Internet also allows in building relations outside an organization which helps to fetch trustworthy contacts. Through the help of social media there can be concrete connections with people which can help to establish proper marketing channel for the organization. There are many modern trends that are observed in the organization. Now-a-days employees prefer to fetch clients with the help of channel marketing. It is difficult for employees to get proper clients by running to every leads, instead employees prefer to market their motives through other people or media and this is a very positive trend that has been introduced because using these modern trends given targets can get achieved easily. Being a part of a hospitality organization it is very important to understand customers (Gupta, 2008, p.17). Customers are the most important assets for an organization like this. Hence it is a great opportunity for me to provide better customer service so that new customers can be attracted with the help of existing customers. This can be profitable for the organization and my career goals. Another important opportunity is to take responsibility of higher posts in absence of higher level officials in the organization. Taking higher responsibilities is beneficial because it is noticed by management and there is a fair chance to prove myself worthy by showing my abilities to take greater responsibilities after completing my part of job. These are some of the major opportunities that can definitely be helpful in building a better career. Threats The external factors which can be threats are some unwanted situations that can impact the growth of career for me. For better understanding an example can be taken, if another manager is in competition with me in the organization to achieve a higher post that I deserve can be stressful and in-terms can result in lack of concentration in my present working abilities. This can be very dangerous because present abilities can result negligence of targets and missing target can again let me fall in the same position or below. Another important threat can be slow growth of marketing industry or effects of recession. These situations reduce the money power of customers and in-terms hospitality sector suffers with great loss. There can be cut-short of employees. This situation is a threat because it can completely stop my career aspects because leaving a growing industry can be very stressful and building new contacts is further a tough job. External threats can be very harmful in the growth of career because it results uncertain decisions that can affect the creativity that I possess as a manager. Objectives and Targets to develop potential It is highly important for a manger to set and prioritise objectives for both in short-term and long-term in order to develop own strengths, skills and potentials. It is highly important for a manager to maintain good relationship with both the top level management and employees otherwise he or she cannot grow in the industry. In short term i have to analyze and evaluate the performance of my organization. If it has been identified that, the workplace or organizational performance is not that much good then it is my responsibility to determine the actual reason behind this underperformance. First of all, i have to develop a good relationship with the organizational leaders so that i can make them understand what is the error and fault. It will help me to suggest an effective strategy that can help to improve the current organizational situation. Secondly, i have to maintain good relationships with the employees too as employees are the major stakeholders in an organization. Effective performance and hard work of an employee can help a manager and top level management of an organization to meet the developed goals and objectives quite comprehensively. Last but not the least; it is also my responsibility to develop a long term goal and objective to develop own potential. My long term objective and target will be include experienced and skilled employees in the strategy development and decision making process of the organization. It is true that the strategy development process can be considered as a vital part in the business operation process of an organization in this competitive global business environment. Therefore, inclusion of effective, skilled and experienced employees in the strategy development process can help the organization to develop effective and valuable strategies which can help the organization to ensure its competitive market position. Effective development of both long term and short term targets and objectives will help me to improve my managerial and leadership skills that can help me as well as my organization to maintain peace in the workplace. Most importantly, it is true that several organizations are using hierarchical organizational structure in business operation process in order to control each and every business process. It is true that this organizational structure and centralized organizational culture have several benefits. But, as a manager it is my responsibility to consider the views and perspectives of employees in the strategy development and business operation process (McGrath, 2011, p.52). Therefore, I shall try to influence the organizational leaders to change the organizational culture in which the thoughts and views of effective employees will get priority among the leaders. These are my long-term target and objective. It will help me to play an important role in the maintenance of effective workplace environment. Career Development It is clear from my above SWOT analysis that my communication skill and effective stress management skill help me to maintain good relationship with the employees as well as the top level management of the organization. Effective communication skill can help me to listen to the needs of employees. Needs of an employee should be divided into two parts. These are personal and professional and it should be considered by the managers as well as the organizational leaders quite significantly. Each and every employee generally gives their full potential in return of some rewards. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the managers to motivate employees effectively so that the employees can perform effectively. It has been discussed earlier that hospitality industry can be considered as service industry in which the aspect of customer service management process needs to be considered. Therefore, it is highly important for the organizations within the hospitality industry to develop effective strategies as it will help the organization to gain potential competitive advantages over its competitors, Effective strategy development and strategy implementation can help the organization top gain a prosperous and positive business growth rate. Most importantly, positive business growth rate and strategic outcome will help me to maintain a conflict free workplace environment in which the effective relationship between the employees and organizations will be ensured (Badawy, 2005, p.78). My extrovert nature and positive communication skill will help me to influence the organizational leaders to communicate with the bottom level employees quite specifically. It will help me to gain a positive social recognition from my employees and sub-ordinates. Stress handling, effective stress management and flexibility are my other strengths and personal skills that can help me to support my career development plan. I used to believe in the development and implementation of democratic and supportive leadership style. According to this leadership strategy, i believe that each and every individual should be taken care of within the organization. Each and every employee plays an important role in the development and growth of an organization. Therefore, it is highly important for me to take care of the needs of employees. Effective stress handling and flexibility will help me to guide my employees and sub-ordinates towards the complex tasks and objectives quite effectively. Therefore, the implementation of supportive and democratic leadership style will help me set examples before my colleagues and sub-ordinates. It will influence them to do well according to the needs of situation. These skills will help me to grow in my future career in this industry as well as in this organization. Each and every individual within the organization will be happy with my effort. I shall try to overcome weaknesses through capitalizing the opportunities in order to turn the weaknesses to my potential strengths. This can automatically help me to develop a prosperous career in near future. Career and Personal Development Needs, Current Performance, and Future Needs It is clear from the above discussed and mentioned facts that my both managerial and personal skills will help me to fulfil my career and personal development needs. My extrovert nature and effective relationship with both organizational leaders and employees will help me to grow in my near future as these will help to become a successful and professional manager within the hospitality industry. It is clear from above SWOT analysis that some of my weaknesses my major weakness is that i possess short temper. It can affect my leadership skill and managerial process. I will overcome this weakness through the extensive use and implication of my extrovert nature in the managerial and leadership process. It will help me to understand the mentality and thought process of each and every individual within the organization. Most importantly, it can help me to develop effective relationship with the employees as well as my organizational leaders. These all are my present career and personal development needs. It has been discussed earlier that my extrovert nature, effective communication skill and supportive leadership style helped my organization to overcome several critical issues and challenges, such as workplace conflict, cultural barriers and high employee turnover rate. These current performances will help me to support my career development plan as each and every employer generally try to identify the skills and experiences of a manager in the previous organization (Hunt, 2005, p.24). My positive attitude, hard work and positive career outcome will help me establish a smooth career in this global hospitality industry in near future. An effective and hardworking manager always seeks for bright future. I always want to become a successful and professional manger in this global hospitality industry. It is true that the competition within the industry among the job applicants is increasing at a constant rate. Therefore, my aim will be stick to my present organization serve them with my seer dignity and integrity to ensure positive and sustainable business outcome. It will help me to meet my future need that is a successful and professional manager within the global hospitality industry. Conclusion It is clear from above discussion that the global hospitality industry has become highly competitive as well as saturated. In addition to this, the competition among the applicants regarding securing a good and prospect job opportunity has increased significantly. I know that my personal and managerial strengths, such as stress handling and communication skill will help me to grow in near future within the global hospitality industry. Moreover, my consideration of democratic and supportive leadership style will help me to become popular among my sub-ordinates as well as organizational leaders. But, it is also important for me to consider my major weaknesses quite seriously. Over confidence and short temper are my major internal weaknesses that need to be considered quite seriously in order to grab potential job opportunity within the global hospitality industry. It s true that the global hospitality industry is experiencing significant changes in each and every business aspect, such economic growth, social demand, political environment, legal considerations, technological revolution and consumer behaviour. I have to consider these aspects critically and expertly so that i can grow according to my expectation in my near future as a successful and professional manager within the global hospitality industry. Last but not the least; it is highly important for me to capitalize on the potential external opportunities in my adopted and implemented so that the possibility of intensive competition in job market cannot ruin or hamper my career growth rate.
