The company incurs the huge cost in terms of both time and resources while replacing these employees. A manager’s management style can actually make or break an employee’s level of engagement towards a particular activity and an organization as a whole. There are various ways in which a manager can actually support an employee. These include exhibiting openness and availability by facilitating the free flow of information, arranging regular meetings - both informal and formal – which offer employees with the flexibility to express their thoughts, and thereby, creating opportunities for connection and exposure to others within the company (Bates, 2004).

If employees have a negative perception about their managers or if a manager exhibits a controlling attitude or micromanages their work, then it is quite likely that employees will disengage. On the other hand, if the manager fosters a style that is more facilitative and participative, then he will be able to encourage employees to work efficiently and passionately, instead of burdening them with too many instructions (Madell, 2014). One of the largest drivers of employee engagement is consistent direct supervisor feedback (Dale Carnegie training, 2012).

Empirical researches have revealed that employees, who receive negative feedback, are more likely to engage with the organization than those who receive no feedback at all.
