Recruitment, Training and Development at Intel Company By submission Recruitment, Training and Development at Intel Company Intel is a technological company that has a goal to change improved lives worldwide through technological innovation, environmental sustainability and healthcare. It is based in Santa and was established in 1968 and it has almost 50,000 employees. They have a range of technological products, from computers to cell phones and tablets and home based electrical appliances. However, they mainly make semi-conductor chips used in electronic devices. They aim to put the users at the centre of technology such that it is made to be all about the user. This focus on ergonomics has brought about diversity in the business culture all dedicated to one sole purpose of unlocking the future in the technological world.1 The company recruits employees across the board in its goal to diversify the workplace in terms of gender, age, race, religion, disability and culture. This in turn gives the company a global outlook. Intel has adopted a business culture that sets it apart from other branched out firms. The connection between the team and the organization is more interactive to help motivate the former. The personnel are expected to conform to the companys business principles. The company helps the team to grow professionally and individually through recognition and awarding tendencies for exemplary performance. About the community resources that Intel Corporation uses, it has set policies and initiatives to regulate the same and give back to the community. It does this at an indigenous and universal level. One of these initiatives is its Go green campaign through which it has made efforts to reduce global warming in its operations. It has also promoted education especially in the field of Science. Recruitment The recruitment process at Intel Corporation is focused on skill and diversification. The employees need to have an idea of how Intel can dominate the technological market through new brilliant innovations and over the chart sales. In its environmental strategy, the company has moved to improve efficiency in energy use so as to conserve resources and reduce industrial waste emissions. This is a task that has been adopted as a corporate responsibility to the global community. Intels employees are involved in certain programmes with indigenous communities aimed at making a progressive influence in the community.2 Intel has made strides improve education in the marginalized areas with an aim to ensure that all students have equal access to technological resources and offering scholarships to students pursuing the engineering field.3 For those that get to be recruited as part of the Intel workforce, it comes with certain peaks. Some of these are: home office option, childcare backing, employee discounts for Intel products, recreational and fitness facilities (gyms), Intel volunteer programs, leaves of absence and paid time off. Work Culture The business, involves the employees in management through involving them in decision making. The management welcomes proposals from the workforce and this has worked to bridge the gap between the managers and the workers and, thus creating a comfy working environment. For example, Intel managers have their afternoon meal together with the lower employees and there are no reserved parking spaces for the management officials. The company emboldens confrontation at all ranks. The employees are empowered to speak up in the case of any unfair treatment or contradictory actions taken at the work place. The employees are assessed on performance, cooperation and their contribution to making the workplace a friendlier environment to all.5 Intel Values The company values encourage the workforce to be outspoken, to provide a competitive tendency in the workplace, and increase cooperation. This works in building trust and respect among the employees, acknowledgement and awarding of initiatives and accomplishment, fairness and firmness in performance management and being an asset to the worldwide Intel community. With its aim to be the top technological provider in the world the following guidelines have been set: listen, and consequently respond to the customers and stakeholders needs, deliver brilliant innovations and exemplary services. In additions, develop user friendly products. Intels human resource department has set disciplinary guidelines for the company employees to adhere to. Since all the employees are trained graduates, they are required to perform their roles with proficiency and transparency. Safety is a key issue; the guidelines stipulate that each should develop a safe working environment. The employees are assessed with respect to commitments that are manifested in the form of contracts. They are required to meet their end of the deal so as to help the company attain its set targets. Team managers are required to plan efficiently and get the appropriate number of team members and sufficient funding for the projects assigned to them. The overall Intel team is required to be responsive to detail. Intel Corporation being technological business innovations are an expectation and they should be delivered with excellence. Like any other business, there is an aspect of risk taking that should be on the focus of output and should be executed flawlessly. Personal Development The Company has considered the proposal to increase its employees lives outside the workplace. After every seven years, the fulltime employees are treated to a paid vacation. This is in addition to the private time off that each employee gets. There is an award system that starts off at the department level to the corporate level. It is an official acknowledgment for the brilliant performance. The corporation has an institution for higher learning, Intel Institution where the members of the executive board offer their free services for technical tutoring for Intels employees. For those employees who wish to pursue further studies outside Intel Institution, there is a program to help fund this tuition. This is, however, dependent on the fulfilment of terms and conditions. Every 18 to 24 months, internal promotions, are offered to non-executive employees. Promotions to senior positions are, however, not an internal matter since these positions are advertised even outside the company. In measuring the performance and efficiency of its workforce, the company has adopted a 360 degree feedback system. This system is web based and it evaluates employees in relation to feedback from fellow employees. In its own way, this system promotes a good working environment.4 Talent management initiatives for the companys workforce shows that the company is engaged with the employees and this result into high productivity since the employees feel supported. Communication between the management and the personnel is essential in maintaining good business relations and motivation of the personnel. The employers distinguish and award personnel. This is important because the manager is looked up to in the workplace and should be used as a source of motivation by the business. Intel has realized that motivation of staff goes beyond benefits and vacation holidays. As much as these contribute, as a business the management needs to appeal to its workforce at a personal level.12 Intel Corporation easily attracts an employment because it is a top brand firm. In hiring of new employees, the company targets some of its segments. For example, in accomplishing the companys diversity employing women and people with disability as a means of enforcing affirmative action can work to popularize the business. In order to achieve sustainable growth the Human Resource branch considers these aspects in determining whom to hire and who to let go. Intel has managed to keep its staff in the frontline and this has worked to their advantage since the employees become loyal even in tough economic times; they do not seek opportunities elsewhere. Despite the vast employee base, the company has managed to keep up the company culture. In job interviews, the managers not only look for the technological knowhow but at the suitability of the individual for the position. Even after one is hired they are guided to ensure that they do not feel secluded. Corporate Responsibility In the corporate social obligation, the employees play a role through donations to the Intel Foundation. These donations alone match up to several millions of money. The employee contributions are not only monetary, they also offer community service in terms of offering hours of input into community projects.6 Education Programs In an attempt to provide the future world with skilled personnel, Intel has taken the initiative to sponsor education programs on a yearly basis. These donations are in terms of lab equipment for post-graduate research laboratories and financial aid for primary schools. Intel being a technological establishment, their main focus is on science related disciplines. In primary schools, the company promotes science as a subject. In secondary schools, the applied approach to science is presented. Intel gives students hands on approach and real life experience to scientific research. In Ireland, the company has campaigned for a program that aims at providing online security for children.7 Environment Intel has taken steps to reduce the unenthusiastic crash of its operations on the environment. From 2008, the establishment has embraced the use of green power. In the USA, they use green power entirely for their operations. Investment in solar panels has cut down on the companys greenhouse discharges. Currently, the company bases in Israel, Vietnam and the US have an aggregate of 10 million kWh of solar energy per annum. In addition to this change in their businesses, they have embraced a water management system. Since 1998 over $100 million has been invested in this initiative and has led to the saving of billions of gallons of water. This policy promotes: safety of the water after they use it; the company ensures that the quality of water is maintained at all cost. The company ensures that a sufficient amount of water is used to eliminate wastage of this communal resource. In the use of this resource, the company informs the community of its intentions and keeps them updated on the use. Accessibility of water to the community is an objective that is adhered to; they ensure that their use does not inhibit the communitys use. Their amenities are intended in such a way that conserves water throughout the operations.8 Intel has a climate transformation strategy to counter global warming. This comes down to energy conservation. Intel has upgraded the efficiency of their semi-conductors and in so doing has met the energy use reduction initiative that reduces global warming. The use of these semi-conductors in other industries translates to a global fight to global warming.9 Women in Technology Intel has a sponsorship program that is purposed at heartening women to take up careers in technology. In Ireland, this program is assisting female school leavers who intend to pursue a four year undergraduate program in a technological field. As the students are on holiday, Intel offers them internships at their business. In addition to this, Intel offers an academic mentor to each one of these students to guide them in their career path.10 Measuring Intels Impact Intel conducts a study on the communitys perception after every 2 years. This study is intended to measure the success of the proposals the company is taking to defend the communitys resources and to give back to the same. This helps to give Intel an overview of the general feeling of the public towards the business and it helps them to plan for the future. The company goes ahead to thank the community for their response.
