Organizational Development Competencies Gained al Affiliation) Introduction The managerial post in an organization requires various skills owing to the fact that it entails dealing with issues that affect the entire organization as well as other concerned stakeholders. This discussion will focus on the organizational development competencies that I have gained overtime and how it can be effectively applied in the Tekmate Informational Technology Company as well as my weaknesses with regard to organizational development competencies that could affect the success of the Tekmate Information Technology Company.
My Strengths with Regard to Organizational Development in the Tekmate Company
Planning
Throughout my personal assessment, I have identified that I possess proper organizational planning skills that can be effectively applied to facilitate success in Tekmate Information Technology Company. Organizational Planning involves the process of identifying specific organizational objectives as well as the identification and implementation of strategies that can facilitate the achievement of these objectives. Moreover, this skill shall enable be allocate resources and assign duties among the 25 internal employees in Tekmate Company and the over 30 external employees.
Evaluation
I have also identified the fact that I possess proper evaluation skills that can be applied in any company at the position of a manager. Evaluation entails a systematic process through, which the merits, worth as well as the standard procedures that are applied to undertake organizational operations. My evaluation skills can be applied in the Tekmate Company with an aim of identifying the qualification of the workers to perform their duties. This skill can also be applied to identify the efficacy of the operational procedures used in the company with an aim of making appropriate improvement. Moreover, I can apply this skill to determine the worthiness of investing in some technologies in the Tekmate Company.
Interpersonal Skills
This is another imperative skill that is required in any job position. This is one of my strengths that can facilitate the achievement of the goals and the objectives of the Tekmate Company. As an information technology Manager, interpersonal skills will allow me interact freely with over 1000 employees at the Tekmate Company. Proper interpersonal skills shall facilitate proper communication between the managerial team at the Tekmate Company thereby promoting the essence of teamwork and proper relationship among the employees thus facilitating the achievement of the organizational goals. As a manager, I can apply this skill to gather different types of information from the employees i.e. challenge facing them and how they can be improved.
My Weaknesses
Throughout the Learning process, I have discovered that I lack some pertinent skills that can be applied to facilitate the achievement of the Tekmate goals, objectives and aims. Specifically the skills that I lack with regard to performance of my duties as an Information Network Manager are:
Participation
Tekmate as an information technology company operates in a competitive environment with tremendous changes that occur over time. Moreover, the company is managed by 1000 employees from different cultural and educational backgrounds. In order to facilitate success in the company, a great sense of participation is required among the employees, participation is imperative for exchange ideas in order to solve common problems facing the Company. However, this is among my major weaknesses that may hinder my success towards facilitating the achievement of the Tekmate goals and objectives.
Self-Awareness
The concept of self-awareness entails the capacity to determine one’s personality i.e. ability to recognize weaknesses and strengths. It enables one to comprehend other people and relate with them properly. Self-awareness as a manger in the Tekmate Information Technology Company is imperative for various actions. To begin, the company boasts of over 1000 employees; this requires the self-awareness skills that facilitate a proper understanding between the managerial team and the sub-ordinate staff; specifically by facilitating the understanding of the feelings, emotions as well as the perception of employees regarding some modes of operation in the Tekmate Company. Moreover, self awareness in the managerial position facilitates the understanding of the needs of the clients with regard to the specifically technology services provided by the Company.
Adoption
The corpus of organizational adoption entails a scenario where the organization adopts or assimilates the use of certain aspects of operations that are used by external organizations or that have been implemented somewhere else. Moreover, as a manger the concept of adoption entails the adoption or assimilation of other aspects of management that are used by other external managers. However, this is my major weakness owing to the fact that I lack the proper skills that my enhance capacity to adopt other imperative managerial skills. The current technological environment is characterized by high rates of changes and improvements. This requires a manager that can adopt other aspects of management that can adopt and emulate managerial skills that involve the quick and effective acquisition of adoption skills.
Intervention
There are different dynamics of managerial interventions that are required to facilitate organizational change. The Concept of intervention entails a scenario whereby the manager in collaboration with other stakeholders applies certain operational strategies geared towards elimination of challenges that may hinder development. In the case of Tekmate Information Technology Company, intervention skills are imperative in the sense that the company operates in a dynamic and competitive business environment that may pose challenges the success or the smooth operations of the business. Therefore, this requires that the Tekmate Company requires a manager with proper interventions skills who can identify challenges facing the company and its clients, develop and implement interventions strategies that can be applied to eliminate the identified challenges.
Competencies Learned in Relation to Organizational Development
Follow-Up
I have learned the importance of organizational follow-up especially after implementing new modes of operation. Follow-up is usually performed after evaluation or implanting new strategies of operation. It involves the process of collecting data regarding the efficacy of the modes of operation implemented within an organization. In the Tekmate Information Technology Company, this skill can be applied to collect data concerning the strategies applied to facilitate the Company’s Operations by specifically determining their efficacy and the challenges facing their successful implementation. The data collected in this case can be used to improve the operations hence facilitating the success of the organization. Owing to the current rapid changes faced by Companies providing technology services and products, the company may require a manager with proper follow-up skills that would ensure that the challenges facing the company are identified and resolved on time.
Marketing
Marketing is an important skill that is required by any organization among its employees. Through our my learning process, I have learnt the advantages of learning and improved my skill; basically marketing involves creating awareness among clients i.e. in the case of Tekmate, proper marketing would be required to attract more clients to the company. Marketing requires proper knowledge of an organizational activities, services or products. It also requires a person with proper communication skills. As an Information Technology manager, my marketing skills would be important in promoting the services and products of the company among its clients and improves its competitive advantage in the current competitive technology industry.
Enrolling
Enrolling is the act of selecting recruiting and maintaining employees within an organization. Tekmate Company has employed over 1000 employees with different skills. In order to facilitate the success of this company, it needs a manager with proper enrolling skills. As a manager, I have learnt the proper enrolling skills that are pertinent for the management of company’s employees. The ever changing modes of business operations may create a need for employees with different and unique skills; I believe that my skills in this management facet will facilitate the success of the company in a wide perspective.
Cross Cultural Management
This is another managerial competence that I have gained in my learning process. In the case of Tekmate, there over 1000 employees from various cultural-backgrounds that requires a manager with proper cultural management skills. In addition, the company serves over 100 small scale clients, comprised by people of diverse cultures. My skills in managing people from various cultures are pertinent in this company in order to facilitate its success.
