Sustainability Development Principles The first application which is d in the case study is the sustainability development principles associated with the ideologies and environmental issues. When looking at the aspects of sustainable development and the principles that are a part of this, it is found that there are specific requirements and expectations that are associated with the development. This is based on how applicable different expectations are and what the underlying expectations are with different case studies. In the current case studies, there is an approach to understanding the vision of what sustainable development means. This is combined with understanding the overall system and issues which relate to this. When this is done, there is the understanding of key issues within the assessment and the necessity to create different responses with the case study and the understanding of principles which are created. The main categories that are related to sustainable development principles relate directly to the understanding and links of how these can be used in a different context. The approach is to create an economic, social and environmental sense of quality within the different needs that are a part of the development. This is combined with the idea of creating a holistic approach, specifically which is inclusive of developing different roles for various needs with the principles which are used. To further the sustainability, there are elements which are required, including economic development, environmental quality and the social equity that occurs. The adequate scope furthers this with the understanding of time scales and how this can work with the long – term goals that are created. The activities, amount of communication, practical roles, participation, efficiency and the ability to change different roles also furthers this. Monitoring, evaluation and change of the different expectations with the operations then allows for the categories and principles to be associated with the development of the quality required. While the basis of sustainable development is available, there is not an understanding of how this will affect future generations. This is one of the main gaps that is associated with analyzing and responding to the environmental, social and economic developments. One can base the sustainable development principles on current trends and expectations. However, this may have a negative effect on others within the community and may not be used for effective expectations. By not incorporating the development into future goals, and instead basing this on the current goals and expectations, there is an understanding that the development is only a part of the current trends and needs and is not directly associated with future outcomes. This creates limits with the expectations and development as well as the belief in empowerment for those within the community for future roles with development and expectations that are needed. The principles that are developed have further limitations with defining the potential solutions that are created. For instance, legal and technological solutions are two of the main areas which sustainable development can be approached. However, there is little to no mention of how these can be incorporated into the model and the effect which they will have. At the same time, the economic development is not completely available unless there is a set of legal construction that is a part of the solutions. Understanding the definitions of each and expanding on the principles based on specific needs and other intertwining principles makes a difference in the responses and the available aspects which relate to how one responds to the principles. Bringing together the principles and understanding how different areas affect sustainable development are the areas which need to be expanded on, specifically when looking at how they relate to economic, social and environmental development. Biodiversity Ensuring biodiversity within the country is one which can create specific results and levels of success in terms of sustainable development. When looking at Case Study 30, it is noted that the biodiversity is one which implies success or failure, dependent on the cognition related to social, cultural and political development within the country. In this case study, there is a direct link to partners in South Africa that worked on creating an electricity infrastructure. This was related to a partnership with other countries that had the goal of minimizing the biologically significant impact in each region while creating safe management of the electronics. This was based specifically on bird flappers that caused a lack of safety with electricity power lines and the need to test these and change the levels of safety within South Africa. A similar project was noted in Case Study 31, which was based on changing the mining techniques in Mount Owen by understanding the biodiversity value and changing the process and system for mining with respect to the conservation within the area. The case studies presented show that the biodiversity within each region works because of the relationship which is created to each level of sustainable development. The first of these is the political and legal agenda. There is a specific set of policies and needs which are created and highlighted with the political and legal agenda. This is similar to various countries that have sustainable development based on policies and principles which are required as a part of the system. The legalities are inclusive of one having to gain permission to build different concepts while being aware of how this affects the biodiversity within the region. This is furthered with creating policies that help to maintain and stabilize what has been within the country and what is expected with this. The legal and political consciousness that is a part of the system is furthered with the cultural and social development. These create different sustainable development principles that are a part of the region. The social expectations are based on demands and understanding of the expectations with biodiversity and how a corporation or different entity should respond to the needs of the area. The expectations are based on the recognition that biodiversity and the ability to create sustainable development with the environment are as important. As the development of knowledge occurs with biodiversity, changes are made to continue to incorporate new developments and procedures within the region. Innovations, expectations and demands within society help with the functioning of biodiversity and help to incorporate a different set of functions that are expected by others. This is furthered with many that are able to set the demands by pushing policy makers and those that are inclusive of biodiversity so it holds to specific standards and expectations. The combination of demands to ensure better prospects with the environment and biodiversity is what is established with the specific case studies. In both, there is an understanding that there is the need to establish different approaches to the environmental concepts while providing sustainability with concepts such as electricity. To do this, different policies are met and there is an understanding that changes need to be made. The South African case study with birds and how this is affected with electricity is an example in which one can see how the level of knowledge and understanding of how the environment is affected is immediately changed. This comes from the political, social and cultural agenda that eventually becomes a part of the development with the environment. Companies as a Part of Community The importance of companies as a part of the community is dependent on the corporate social responsibility which is taken. The corporations have the need to understand what is occurring within the community, how to respond to this and what is expected in terms of creating sustainable features within each community. Without this, a corporation has the ability to create specific responses to the community that are negative and which come with environmental and social consequences. If this occurs, then it is likely that the community will respond by not having the desire for the corporation to be a part of the community and may have a negative attitude toward the brand identity and overall appearance of the company. Changing this into a positive attitude is based on how much the corporation can give back into the community and what the roles and expectations change into for those that are involved with the corporation. Statistics to Water and Electricity The statistics on water and electricity in Case Study 25 show a direct correlation between the environmental, political and social concerns with how the water and electricity is used. According to the statistics, there is a direct correlation with the awareness and principles of the community and the political expectations with the amount of usage with water and electricity. More important, there are changes which are made with water and electricity which are related specifically to the different associations with the environment and how this is used. By creating this, there is a direct development and understanding of how water and electricity is used, dependent on the knowledge and expectations by the legal entities and the social responses which occur. Ensuring Sustainability The five areas which ensure sustainability are inclusive of culture, social expectations, political structures, environment and technology. The culture and social expectations are similar, specifically because they are able to create a sense of pressure and standards with the demands in a specific community. The knowledge which the community has directly affects the responses which occur from others. The political structures change this with the policies and standards that are withheld. If these are broken, then it is easier to create different changes within the community. The environmental expectations are intertwined with the other areas of sustainability, specifically because it relates to development and how many respond to the developmental expectations. The technology is the last aspect, specifically because it relates to the knowledge which is brought to others and how this develops within a community. Each of these ensure sustainability by offering tools, creating demands and providing knowledge that then ensures a response with those that are working with changes and sustainable development within the community.
