Work Place Assessment Introduction According to Robbins & Judge, organizational behavior primarily deals with “the studies of what people do in an organization and how their behavior influences the organizational standards” (Robbins & Judge, 2009). According to NSW Department of Education and Training, “work place assessment is a formal system of assessing workers competency in their job functioning against proficiency standards”. In this formal system, the employees are involved in the development of workplace evaluation tools with proper knowledge and information of the whole process (NSW Department of Education and Training, 2001). In the paper the organization, i.e. Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA), will be studied in relation to its organizational behavior attributes so as to identify the various organizational functions of the organization. Various aspects, including necessary valuable recommendations required in their organization, will also be taken into consideration in the discussion below. Organization Background Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA) is a non-profit-oriented organization, performing broad sphere medical group practices along with providing utmost care to a significant amount of both adult and pediatric patients. The organization employs a significant amount of employees, physicians and other healthcare experts who are fully committed towards making it easier for the patients to stay fine and healthy (Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, 2011). Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates’ (HVMA) performances are considered to be the most significantly rated for medical quality among others. The organization’s exceptional medicine doctors, doctors’ assistants, nurses and other medical personnel operate jointly covering wide range of specialties, which effectively helps to coordinate regarding the care of the patients (Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, 2011). However, it can be recommended that the organization can think of conducting innovative and period training programs for their valuable employees in order to enhance their skills, as well as competencies which could help the organization to provide sustained and updated quality services to the patients. Mission Statement & Values The mission of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA) lies in caring for the patients compassionately and effectively, along with maintaining the highest medical and ethical standards. Moreover, the organization’s mission is to build a better future for their communities through the means of teaching and effective leadership in health care innovation among others (Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, 2011). The values of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA) lie in the endeavor to confer the highest possible quality of treatment to its patients in the safest environment. In addition, the teamwork which is led by clinicians collaborating with engaged and talented staff also adds an enormous value to the organization. The organization also shapes the future of healthcare by innovating new ways in order to take utmost care of the patients by promoting research and educating the upcoming clinicians (Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, 2011). Moreover, the organization also adds value towards improving the care of the patients within a short span of time by respecting their unique needs along with responding to their feedback. The organization aspires to incorporate the information services across various communities to generate a flawless system of care for the patients (Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, 2011). In this connection, the organization focuses enormous value upon the proper and the adequate utilization of resources obtainable within the organization in order to extend care efficiently and more broadly towards the society, as well as the community (Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, 2011). The utilization of resources should be done in a systematic manner so that the organization can easily comply or match with required patients’ cares, which ultimately will help them to gain quick recovery. Employee Morale & Job Satisfaction The employees of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA) are fully committed towards caring for the communities in which their patients live in. In order to enhance the aspect of employee morale and show their drive towards the community, the overall staffs of HVMA have donated a significant amount of coats, especially for the kids, raised a substantial amount for American Cancer Society, contributed large number of socks and other garments, donated cases of foods to local pantries and also supported local youth sports club, police and fire departments among other activities. These sorts of activities highlight the morale of humanity to the communities that are performed by the employees or the staffs of the organization (Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, 2011). By performing these significant activities relating with the morale of humanity, the employees of the organization derive huge job satisfaction and also tend to boost their morale with the outcome of these activities. Moreover, the medical staffs of the organization are also available to visit any business concern, school or any other organization in order to perform different medical screenings, like glucose and blood pressure among others, for their staffs for a nominal fee. In addition, the medical staffs of the organization also work with these institutions or organizations in order to offer lectures on important health related topics (Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, 2011). These sorts of commitments or activities that are performed by the workers or the staffs of the organization towards the communities should not be stopped and are very much needed to continue, as long as they can for the sake of providing benefits towards the patients, as well as for the communities. The organization can also attempt to provide certain free medical check-ups and treatments for the underprivileged section of the society. Team Work Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA) employs and engages teams of personnel that are concerned with healthcare sectors. This implies that the organization possesses full control and proper access to a wide variety of physicians and other experienced healthcare individuals who are dedicated in order to improve the health and manage the wellbeing of the patients. It is the prime responsibility of the team leader to look into the matter seriously and comply according to the requirement. Communication According to Slater, communication is defined as “the process of conveying a message from a sender to a receiver and vice-versa through a medium of channel” (Slater, n.d.). The different operational teams of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA) are performing their level best in order to develop the safety and the care of the patients through effective means of communication from top to bottom level. In order to attain the preferred objective or the results, the organization should lay more emphasis upon the communication process, so that the organization can easily meet with the requirements or needs of the patients and the communities as well (Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, 2011). The level of communication should be conducted from top level authority especially from the management board or team of the organization up to the bottom management level such as physicians, clinicians and nurses among others in a smooth and effective way. It has been recognized that effective and proper means of communication is the ultimate success factor for any organization to a certain extent. Conflict Management According to Webster, a conflict occurs when two or more people within any organization disagree because of their differing needs, wants, values and goals. Hurt feelings, anger and poor communication are a few of the essential features of conflict. Thus, conflict management is the study of managing and dealing with the activities in order to identify the arising conflicts surrounding the organization in a reasonable manner (Webster, n.d.). The senior management team, along with board of trustees of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA), act independently while executing their business practices worldwide in a very proper and adequate way with effective means of communication. As a result, the organization eventually has become one of the major leaders among others when the subject matter of clinical quality is measured (Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, 2011). However, there is a least chance of having any conflicts between the top management team and the employees in HVMA because the organization is based on non-profit medical group practices. Apart from this issue, the employees or the staffs of the organization perform their tasks based on morality towards the community by conducting various activities and services (Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, 2011). If any such conflict occurs, then the organization should cope with those arising conflicts by arranging proper discussion sessions among the management team and the employees to reach into a proper and amicable solution. The management team includes one managing director who acts as President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), one Chief Financial Officer, one Chief Operating Officer, 5 Vice Presidents, one Senior Project Manager, one Chief Information Officer, one Chief Legal Officer, one Chief of Healthcare Improvement Officer, one Chief Medical Officer and one Chief External Affairs Officer (Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, 2011). By maintaining smooth and proper flow of information, especially from top management team to bottom level, with effective means of communication is highly recommended for the organization while executing its business practices. Change Management According to Creasey, change management is defined as “the procedure and methods in order to manage various changes to achieve the required business income”. Change management also incorporates the organizational procedures that can be implemented to help any individual to attain and adopt the intended change in the organization by positive transformation (Creasey, 2007). The organization uses various tools and techniques in order to maintain its clinical quality. Eventually with the utilization of various tools and techniques along with certain changing factors, each year local health plans of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA) recognize exceptional accomplishments in their assessments of physicians, as well as clinical measuring quality (Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, 2011). The organization should sustain these achievements in order to serve better towards the patients and the communities as well. The organization can bring further certain changes from management perspective in order to derive maximum leverage by providing utmost quality and efficiency in their services according to the modern day requirements. Conclusion The overall discussion was to highlight the work place assessment which relates with the organizational behavior criteria of a particular organization.
