Personal and Organizational Ethics A manager has to have an effective personal mission and vision ment if employees have to be effectively motivated. As a future manager, I would have a personal statement that ensures that I treat and relate to others, as I would like them to treat and relate to other individuals. I would emphasize that everyone in the organization is treated equally since this would be instrumental in increasing the levels of confidence in all employees, hence ensuring that everyone is satisfied with their positions. My values at the workplace would put an emphasis on the need to do individual jobs correctly, and that the consequences of any employee’s actions would be for the benefit of the company. As a future manager, I would stress the values of honesty and accountability so that I am able to oversee the operations of my subordinates with utmost proficiency. Honesty will enable me and those I manage to use the resources of the company properly and avoid embezzlement so that resources are not wasted. Accountability will enable me to guarantee that my actions are for the benefit of all employees, the society and the organization as a whole. My vision would be to increase the living standards of all my subordinates, and I would achieve this by assuring all workers satisfactory remuneration, which will enable them to meet their daily needs and motivate them to work hard. I will ensure that there is teamwork in the organization so that cohesiveness is achieved, and this will see that the operations of the company are highly productive. As a manager, I would stress that employees act in ways that produce benefits to all the stakeholders of the organization. My personal code of ethics will use a utilitarianism approach, where the morality of an action is determined by the consequence that the action has on everyone that it affects. Organization values are an important facet of organizational behavior, culture, and change (Keyton, 2010). The organizational values will dictate how everyone in the organization treats others, and since everyone is from different backgrounds, there will be common values, which will see the human relationships in company grow strong. The common organizational values would be to treat everyone with respect so that there are no conflicts in the organization. My organization will care about its employees by ensuring that their health is catered for using insurance policies, which will ensure that the workforce is healthy and productive. The organization will have reward mechanisms where the most productive workers will be given bonuses to motivate them to work hard. The company will be founded on teamwork and creating training programs, which will see that the employee skills are improved for their own benefit and for that of the company. The organizational values will ascertain that there is proper communication in the company so that there are no conflicts, and in the event that they arise, since there is respect, it will be easy to resolve them. The culture of the organization would be a team culture where people will work collectively to attain a common goal. The team members will have definite responsibilities that they have to accomplish on time. There will be deadlines to be met, and it will be the responsibility of all the workers to accomplish their assigned tasks otherwise, they will be accountable for their actions. The team members will have to realize where their task fits in the triumph of the organization, and this will be achieved by creating daily work schedules. The team organizational culture will ascertain that everyone in the organization feels treasured, motivated and recognized. Since there will be rewards for the hard working members, all the workers will strive to be the best, and this will motivate everyone in the organization to work hard. Decision-making will be through consultations with everyone in the organization so that the decisions are easy to implement. However, when the decisions are critical and there is no consensus, it will be the duty of the company leaders to make informed decisions based on rational analysis of the pertinent facts. The organizational culture will be one that understands that there are people from different backgrounds and beliefs, and the company will endeavor to ensure that its workers are accorded their rights in accordance to their beliefs. The organization will recognize the religious and traditional beliefs of its workers by giving them holidays on certain days such as Christmas. This will see that the workers are satisfied in the workplace because they are assured that their rights and freedoms are considered. Work in the organization will be fairly distributed so that no one is overworked and individuals who work overtime are compensated. Employee job security will be guaranteed through contracts, and this will make employees dedicated to accomplishing their tasks so that the organization succeeds. The vision and mission of the organization would be, to create a healthy workplace that takes care of the needs stakeholders and aimed at being the price leader in the market. This endeavor will be achieved through various initiatives that will see that all employees are safe in the workplace and that they remain loyal to management. The clearly defined vision will motivate employees since they are aware of what is expected from them. The organization will make efforts to ensure that every employee has their own roles, which will be used to monitor the success of the organization and of the individual employees. Employee morale will be heightened when they see that they have achieved the vision of the organization, therefore, increasing the turnover of the company. The organization’s code of ethics will be guided by four main principles that everyone in the organization must follow. Responsibility will be seen as individual, and everyone will be answerable for his or her own actions. Activities in the organization will be guided by purpose and everyone will work to achieve a particular end. Fairness in the organization will be instrumental in the efficient operations of the business and everyone will be treated fairly without discrimination based on positions. Lastly, decision-making will follow ethical conduct and all the workers will be expected to abide by the rules of the company. The organization will ensure that it takes care of the needs of the community by engaging in various charitable activities that will be advantageous to the society. The company will give grants to the needy people in the society by paying school fees for needy students. The organization will also endeavor to ensure that its operations are environmental friendly by ensuring that it conserves the environment and the available resources. The organization will have a utilitarianism approach to ethics, which will ensure that peoples’ actions produce benefit to those that they affect. The strengths of this approach are that it focuses on the welfare of all the stakeholders and allows decisions to be made with utmost considerations of benefit. The weaknesses of this approach is that it avoids actions that may be wrong and good for the business, may conflict with justice, and it is always difficult to make decisions because of the many considerations that are required to be made (Carroll, 2008). The organizational training programs will be ones that increase the skills of employees by training them on the task they conduct everyday. This will enable employees to be knowledgeable hence increase the productivity of the organization. The organization’s moral philosophy will establish the right and wrong acts that all workers will follow. The utilitarianism philosophy will be in operation in the organization, where employees will be expected to engage in acts that produce the greatest benefit to most people. This will ensure that workers maintain ethical behaviors by engaging in acts that they would expect others to appreciate. Happiness caused by employee’s actions will be beneficial in dictating moral conducts from all employees. For example, an action will be good if people are happy about its consequences and bad if it implicates pain on those it affects. Effective managerial skills include an understanding of the current organizational culture and the identification of areas that need to be changed (Keyton, 2010). If I became a leader in my organization, I would first understand the current culture, and then establish what needs to be changed, and finally communicate to employees the need for the change. I would want to change the organizational culture to be one that delegates authority to make decisions to employees. Since employees are aware of the problems they face everyday, if they have the necessary skills they will make sound decisions. I will ensure that there is an ethics training program so that employees and management know how to be morally upright. I will incorporate discipline to the violators of the organizational code of conduct so that everyone follows rules. I will ensure that there is effective communication in the organization so that information is available to everyone in the company. Availability of information will ensure smooth flow of operations, and this will be crucial in eliminating chances of conflicts. To implement change in the organization I will undertake the following steps to see that the process is successful and it does not face resistance. Create Partnership Among Employees I will make employees involved in the process by communicating to them the changes that I intend to implement. This will enable me to know the response that the change initiative will get, which is necessary in knowing whether the change is viable or not. Set Expectations Setting expectations will enable me to device the goals to be achieved by the change I am about to implement. This process will also be beneficial in assessing the risks involved with the change and establishing whether the change will increase the turnover of the company and stakeholder satisfaction. Lead By Example This will involve me adapting to the new practices, which I expect workers to follow. Being an example will make employees want to assume my role of incorporating change in the organization. For example, I can give an employee the chance to decide on a particular situation that requires prompt action. Consider Incentives For Those That Embrace Change Rewarding employees who take up change will be vital is ensuring that everyone works hard and is motivated to accept and embrace change. Monitor The Change This stage will enable me to ascertain that employees are following the new practices. Training will be vital in this process since it will make it easy for employees to take up the new practices at ease. The key to ensuring that change is implemented effectively is involving people in the process. Planning how to implement change will involve scheduling how tasks will be divided, and constant monitoring will ensure that employees adapt to change (Victorian, 2006).
