Job position paper of Phoenix May 30, Connie Johnson The business world of the 21st century is a place in which the employees are thekey players that determine the fortune of companies. As a young business professional I aspire to become an integral part of the organization which I will work for in the near future. In order to determine the position that best suits you one must realize that each individual has certain strengths and weaknesses which must be confronted and analyzed to become a better person. At the beginning of this course all the students took a series of self assessments tests. The results of these tests are going to be analyzed in this paper to determine the job position I am best suited to hold. Each person has different attributes and skills that can be useful in the workplace. For example a person that has lot of physical strength can use that attribute in order to obtain work. Such an individual can be good at jobs such as construction work, warehouse clerk, or farming work. A different person might have abilities such as been good with people. Individuals with good people skills can possible seek a career as a journalist or politician. Determining ones abilities and traits can help a person find the position in the workplace that is best suited for you. The same way ones abilities can help determine jobs one is suited for, the weakness of a person can also help a person by realizing the types of job you are not suited to perform. A person that is shy and does not like to talk to others would not be good at social work. If a person does not like to talk in public that individual would not be good at being a teacher. An individual that does not have good math skills would not be successful at a career as an engineer. Due to the fact that skills and abilities play such a large role in the determination of a career the self assessment tests taken during the first week of class were a tremendous opportunity to better evaluate oneself. As I was faced with the decision of taking a series of personality tests that were supposed to tell me the type of career I would be good at I was a bit nervous prior to the process. I ask myself what if the current education I am on is not the right one for me. I am a business student that is current pursuing a master’s degree in business administration. When I started my graduate studies in business I did so thinking that that was the best career path for me. Out of the different test I took the one I believed has the greatest utility is the Jungian Myers personality test. This assessment divides people into 16 different types of personalities. After answering a series of questions the test provides the person with a type of personality. I ended up being a ESTJ personality type. This personality type means I am realistic, logical, analytical, and decisive. Ironically this personality type is aligned with the abilities and interest of businesspeople. One of my potential career paths included being a corporate executive. I was extremely relieved after taking this assessment. The educational and career path I have chosen is aligned with my strengths, thus in the future I will become a successful businesswoman. I took a five score personality test that determined that I am a conscientiousness type personality. This means that I am a person that is responsible and achievement orientated. As a future businessperson these traits will be very useful for me. I plan to obtain a job position in the managerial field. Being a manager is my goal in life. As a manager I will be able to make a difference in the company I work for. Managers are responsible for the operations of a company and for the performance of the human resources of the firm. Collaboration is an important element in business settings. I believe in the power of collaboration. Working together as a cohesive unit will enable employees to achieve optimum results. A good manager will keep the lines of communication open between the floor employees and the managerial staff. As a manager I have to ensure that the entire managerial team has common goals. I know I will positively influence the behavior of my colleagues. Due to the importance of communication I plan on always emphasizing its important among the members of the management team. Having good communication creates opportunity. For example sometimes the best ideas are hidden in the minds of the floor employees due to the fact that these workers are constantly exposed to the production lines. In the service industry direct labor workers are the ones that have the most contact with the customers. Maintaining superb customer relation is important to achieve business success. As a future manager I have to improve my interpersonal skills. Managers have to learn how to persuade the behavior of others. Motivating the staff is the responsibility of the manager. One of the personality test I took was to determine my inclination towards diversity. The test determined that I am very optimistic about diversity. Due to the proliferation of the globalization movement diversity has become extremely important in the workplace. Companies that have diverse workforces are better able to serve their global clientele. In the past I have seen the power of diversity at my workplace. When I become a manager I will look for ways to improve the organization by taking advantage of diversity. In America one of the biggest social-cultural trends is the growth of the Latino community which has become the biggest minority group in the United States. Managers have to keep up with the latest social-cultural trends since they affect the business entity directly and indirectly. Diversity and customer purchasing behavior are two factors that directly affect the functionality of organizations. The results of some of other tests I took determine that for me existence needs are very important. Based on this I plan on ensuring that the needs of my employees are top priority. If any of my employees ever come to for help I always plan on being there for them. Managers are supposed to be able to pay attention to detail. One of my goals once I become a manager is to make my employees become better workers. I plan on creating a working environment that is fun and challenging for my workers. One of the personality test I took determined that I am a confident person. Managers need to have confidence at all times. If a manager does not show confidence it can hinder the person’s ability to lead others. The work duties of a manager include having contact with different stakeholder groups including lenders, customers, suppliers, business partners, and the community. Due to the changes in the business world it has become more important than ever to develop the human resources of a company. A job position that allows a person to have a lot impact in the decision making process of an organization is the managerial field. Managers are responsible for the performance of the organization as a whole including its human resources. The Jungian Myers test determined that I am a ESTJ personality type. This personality type is aligned with my current educational path of studying business administration. The position that I seek to obtain in the near future is to become a manager. I like the managerial field because it provides the opportunity to be involved in the decision making process of corporations. Read More
