Download file to see previous pages Once a manager decides on something, his subordinates are required to follow whatever he tells them or else he would have to use the power and authority vested in him to reprimand those who go against his directives. Managers are not their own bosses and as such, they are motivated by the salaries which they are paid for their services. This also makes them subordinates who follow orders from their bosses and who hold them accountable for the progress or failure of the business. Management is a process that focuses on ensuring that there is stability in the organization as well as proper utilization of resources in order to create a harmonious environment for maximizing profits while also minimizing risks, which is the overall sense of doing business. Without it, there would be a lot of confusion and laxity in the operations especially where employees are concerned.

On the other hand, leadership is a personal agenda that is motivated by the need to gain support from the majority as well as excitement from their work but not out of monetary gain. Unlike managers, who have subordinates, leaders have followers (Kotter, 2001). Following a person requires much convincing as well as interaction and persuasion so as to judge the credibility of such a person. As such, leaders as opposed to managers are not authoritative and have no power to command people to follow them. Instead, they sell their ideas and manifestos to the targeted groups for a support whereas managers command their subjects to follow them (Kotter, 2001). Leadership, therefore, calls for the establishment of good relationships with people so as to enhance voluntary following which may be difficult to achieve by being strict. In addition, leaders are achievement-focused unlike managers who are result-oriented and as such, they do not necessarily entrust other people with the responsibility of materializing their objectives.  ...Download file to see next pagesRead More
