The research study reveals that the pedestrian crossing facility possesses great advantages for the people but at the same time there are some problems attached with this facility that are contributed by the human behaviours, mismanagement, and lack of adequate planning of the authorities and lack of public awareness. However, their problems are not intense in nature because the pedestrians know the use of this facility and overall there is awareness among the public regarding the proper use of this facility.

Road safety management is an important issue. The increased road traffic in most of the metropolitan cities insists the authorities to keep on revising the read safety measures to make them more appropriate and protective for the pedestrians. There are different types of road crossing facilities provided to pedestrians in different countries. The construction of the road crossing facilities is an important issue because these can be designed keeping in view several social, economical, user and construction issues.

The facility should be designed at places where there are the need and the width, used material and signs must be provided appropriately. The significance of the road crossing facilities highly depends upon their appropriate designs and locations. (Aeron et al, 2000, p216)There are many research studies conducted to throw light over different types and the importance of the pedestrian road crossing. However, there is little research work done to compare the road safety measures adopted in different countries to find their significance for the people.

The dissertation aims to identify the main benefits and limitations of the pedestrian road crossing facility. The research study also tends to study the user behaviours towards this facility and to find out whether the planning and designing of the road crossing are usually done keeping in mind some important issues like different user groups, location, width, traffic speed, a security issue and so on.
