Turfgrass Growth and Development Turfgrasses form the best type of ground cover due to their tough leaves and the fact that they can be mowed to the desired height without losing their strength. Like all other plants, turfgrasses grow from a complex interplay of a process referred to as “photosynthesis.” The grasses receive water and nutrients from the roots while absorbing sunlight through the leaves; hence, their growth and development. Macro-Environments Macro environments represent the broad spectrum of the natural and uncontrollable factors that affect the surrounding.

As such, they are unpredictable because such factors are sudden. Macro-environments are the major reason as to why there are disaster management plans. Mowing Mowing is the acceptable practice of controlling ground cover crops such as turfgrasses. The process is made possible by using a mower; a mechanized equipment. Mowing brings out the beauty of turfgrasses. Pests and Pest Management One of the causes of food shortages in some parts of the world is pests. Pests are harmful animals (insects or worms) that manifest on crops and destroy and reduce the productivity of such crops.

As such, pest management practices aim at reducing the pests to a manageable level to ensure that plants reach their maximum productivity. Benefits of Turf The benefits of turf revolve around the aspect of environmental conservations. As such, turf ensures that the ground beneath it is not loose, preventing soil erosion. In addition, turf maintains the soil’s richness in terms of nutrients and air composition. Work Cited Cook, Thomas W, and Ann Marie VanDerZanden. Sustainable Landscape Management.
