Hypothetical Scenario of Jaguar Land Rover Instruction Hypothetical Scenario of Jaguar Land Rover Introduction Today, most consumers and automotive manufacturers design their vehicles while considering diverse factors and considerations. For instance, they focus on protecting the environment, luxury, and safety. The need to protect the environment has developed the pressure of developing new alternative fueled cars. The most luxurious vehicle that automotive companies focus on building using designs with alternative fueling like making an electric fuel includes a Jaguar Land Rover and a Range Rover Sport (Gahan, 2011, p.9). Moreover, many of the designed Jaguar Land Rover concentrates on the safety of the Chauffeur. On the other hand, the interior part of a Land Rover has roomy back seats that feature calf rests, tables that pop out of the armrests to accommodate working in comfort and for eating. Furthermore, the vehicle is fitted with coolers to chill drinks within the cold box, when driving. Gilles (2011) argues that Jaguar Land Rover commits to meeting the needs of their consumers through taking up the decision of adding an all-electric vehicle. The electric vehicles will enable the protection of the environment by controlling the amount of fumes exposed to the environment. Manufacturers of Jaguar Land Rover have implemented new supply chains in order to meet their objectives successfully. Therefore, this report focuses on the creation of supply chain networks from internationally based suppliers to the United Kingdom. From a pure design standpoint, all-electric vehicle creates something that enriches the relationship with the consumers as it protects the environment. Jaguar Land Rover has merged with other automotive manufacturers to increase a supply chain that aims at producing an all-electric vehicle, to protect the environment (Cecere & Chase, 2012, p. 11). Sources of Data and Information Regarding Suppliers Leggett (2015) argues that there are various reasons for the need of creation of supply chain of all-electric vehicles production. The magazine provides various supply chain aspects that are interconnected to enable innovation of an electric car (White, 2015, p. 5). The resource chain considered in this context includes extended design and supply chain, marketing and advertising, vehicle, travel and location-based services and finally, distribution and service network that are all connecting with the value chain. Dave Leggett in his analysis of UK automotive supplier industry benefits up suggests that, development and creation of supplier industry in the industrial sector reflect positions in the supply chain and demands for electric vehicles. The combination of many providers develops customers instantly who need various designs of the electric vehicles especially luxurious vehicles such as Jaguar Land Rover. The development of supply chains to manufacture electric vehicles has increased models of cars especially in the automotive industry. The manufacturing and technological complexity of vehicles placing demands on the supplier companies for electric vehicles has risen (Leggett, 2015, p. 13). In addition, close relationships between suppliers and customers results in competitive advantages in engineering synergies and economies work with the aim of benefiting both suppliers and customers for electric vehicles. Moreover, Dave argues that the development of big supplier companies since the last century has grown and assisted the automotive industry to lower the cost of units. Besides, suppliers and multiple customers in the regional hinterland exploit vast scales of the economy not available in the in house single sourcing. Simoudis (2015) argues that innovations often couple technology through sales model and business models. This affects automotive industry since the supply chain must be extended in the process of change as, in this case, the development of electric vehicles. Based on the development supply chains, original equipment manufacturers (OEM) has accelerated transitions of electric vehicle development from vertical integration companies to becoming integrators of components in the manufacture of cars. Furthermore, merging of supply chains in the development of electric vehicles consists of software platforms that mostly embed and proprietor software’s, which control the functions of cars with a hardware platform. A report by Simoudis (2015) states that the automotive industry spends $100 Billion annually on Research and Development(R &D) that equates to $1200 per vehicle produced. Moreover, investments in cars, assists in making the hardware on elements that control safer and efficient platforms in the manufacture of electric vehicles. Distribution and service network of various suppliers, through industrial consolidation and United Kingdom (UK) in automotive supplier sector, developed rapidly through driven big changes in the European manufacturing landscape especially at the original equipment manufacturers of vehicles. Output in continental Europe grew building strength in the supply industry companies that served significant volume in OEMs in various countries such as France and Germany. Legal Requirements of Data Use, Storage, and Collection of Information Many legal requirements in the world require automotive manufacturers to report the content of manufactured vehicles. One of the most recognized legal requirements for the supply chain of automotive is that information cannot be disclosed for purposes that are not related to what it was collected for without the consent of an individual as required by law. Besides, the information gathered to make decisions remains long enough to allow an individual of the automotive innovation to access information from its collection. The supply chain of automotive requires car dealers and customer to have bodily injury liability coverage and property damage liability coverage before purchase and design of automotive parts for innovation purposes. Based on the legal requirements of data use and collection of information for the development of supply chain and innovation of electric vehicle, House Bill 253 authorized California Tesla motors to license as a dealer in the state. This registration came with numerous reservations and restrictions to increase chances of free markets. Therefore, suppliers are advised to permit their vehicles innovation designs through insurance companies to enable change in designs of automotive. Some of the legal requirements and restrictions is that during innovation process and development, the vehicles designed need to comply with environmental laws and regulations especially the development of an electric vehicle (Naunheimer, Fietkau & Lechner, 2011, p. 12). Additionally, modernization process, data used, storage, and collection of information from different suppliers need to be protected within legal frameworks, to enable the change of various models of Jaguar Land Rover and electric vehicles. Therefore, most of the insurance companies advise suppliers of automotive to collect information following the entire legal requirement to facilitate and allow the privacy of innovations such as an electric vehicle development. Appropriate Decision-Making Procedures to Support Selection of Suppliers The appropriate decision making frameworks in supporting the selection of suppliers include listing the possible solutions, setting a timescale and deciding responsible people for decisions, information collection, weighing up risk, deciding on values, weighing up the pros and cons and finally making decisions that support selection of suppliers (Ross & Ross, 2011,p. 25). During the decision making process for selection of suppliers, listing the possible solutions for all problems incurred by the suppliers is appropriate. The listing enables the setting of appropriate solutions that will accelerate the development of various designs for innovation of an electric vehicle with sufficient providers. Besides, setting a timescale allows for the accomplishment of appropriate decisions in choosing suppliers (Vaidya, 2011, p.13). The suppliers’ chosen need to meet the time scale selected for implementation of innovation of an electric vehicle. Furthermore, gathering of appropriate information assists in the research of the best supplier to meet all the necessary procedures for the change of an electric car. Before selection of suppliers, it is important to weigh up the risks involved in the selection of suppliers who participate in the innovation process. This decision making step incorporates weighing of the seriousness of the consequences of taking up the wrong suppliers and, on the other hand, the benefits of making the right decision. Moreover, weighing up the pros and cons of supplier chains to design an electric car in the innovation process is vital during the decision-making process. It helps in decisions and settling on the appropriate advantages and disadvantages before selection of a supplier. The last step is making decisions that support the selection of suppliers through intuitive judgments. Information to Support Decisions Regarding Suppliers’ Selection Decisions assist in choosing a number of alternatives. The decisions made for vendor selection has a wider process of solving problems that providers may generate. Additionally, decisions are made through reasoned and intuitive process, allowing providers to structure the decision process. Supply Chain for New Vehicles Differing To Previous Vehicles at JLR The supply chain will differ from the previous vehicles at JLR since it consists of many suppliers to assist in the innovation process of an electric car. Based on extended deign and supply chain, the supply chain differs from previous vehicles at Jaguar Land Rover, since it incorporates developments in extended research in design to enable for innovation of an electric car (Ribbens, 2013,p. 11). Moreover, distribution and service network of vehicles changes in the supply chain, since distribution dealers will concentrate much on customers who are interested in electric vehicles rather than a vehicle that uses fuel as Jaguar Land Rover. Quality, Quantity and Cost When Making Decisions through the Supply Chain Through the supply chain, various stakeholders are considered depending on their ability to deliver quality, right quantity, and cost of their products efficiently. In the management of Quality and Quantity, the three main operating aspects in the supply chain include transformation, delivery, and procurement. In maintaining quality within the supply chain, the supply of automotive products, in this case, need to focus on reducing supply chain costs, optimize cycle time, and market response. Making decisions through the supply chain, with quality consideration boosts up the market for the automotive, primarily an electric vehicle. Consideration of cost when making decisions through the supply chain entail engagements of financial metrics such as minimizing total costs, optimizing weighted average on the cost of capital and maximizing revenues. The practice of the financial metrics assists in having an efficient supply chain development, which focuses on the production of quality innovations with low costs such as an electric vehicle (Omar, 2011, p.10). The Role of Customer in the Supply Chain Customers explore cost effective suppliers that offer clients the best value of products. Moreover, customers search for innovative partners that give consumers the best services and products in a supply chain (Sigala, 2010, p. 15). The key interest of customers is to maintain the best quality of products for their consumption through active involvement in the supply chain. Besides, customers create supply chains that are resilient and ethically sound to disruption in ensuring quality services. The role of customers in a supply chain, based on this case ensures that proper designs of electric vehicles are produced that meet consumers preference effectively. Recommendations There can be challenges experienced in meeting customers’ demands in the supply chain. Some of the participants’ in the supply chain such as marketers may fail to convince customers of the new design of an electric vehicle, since it involves a complex structure of explanations to the customers. However, the marketing of designed electric vehicles requires intensive advertisements to capture customers’ attention and interest of electric vehicles. Conclusion A supply chain is essential in the development and marketing of electric vehicles. All the essential steps are incorporated for a successful marketing of electric cars. Moreover, distribution of the vehicles requires coordinated systems of suppliers that include customers needs in their innovation process. Bibliography Cecere, L. M., & Chase, C.
