Academic Strategies Academic Strategies The two long term goals that are currently essential for the hospital are to improve the quality health care of patients and to prevent and control the spread of infection from the hospital and also within the hospital premises. In order to provide quality health care to the patients there must be three steps that must be ensured; first and foremost, the leadership of every department of the hospital should be trained to do his job well, regular meetings should be held with the manager or supervisor for the check and balance of quality, secondly a program must be established to train the health care providers to become resilient and not crack under pressure which often lead to a gap in provision of quality of health care and lastly the workup sheets used in the areas should be labeled with different colors and should be printed beforehand to save time and also improve efficiency of health care providers, a complain or comment box should be made so that patients can anonymously report about anything that bothers them. The prevention of infections within the hospital can be controlled by implementing the following steps; the most important step is the maintenance of hygiene and cleanliness within the hospital, training programs to be conducted monthly which train the hospital employees on prevention on spread of infection and then a proper infection control authority should be established which ensure each and every step is actually practiced and it also helps to identify any outbreaks that may have occurred in the hospital. The health care system is infested by a wide range of errors that can be prevented and there are many tests and procedures conducted regularly which are usually unnecessary for the patient. There are many occurrences of death and injuries annually which could have been prevented only if quality health care would have been provided. There are many overuse, misused and underused procedure within the hospital that also increase the expense of both the hospital and the patient. Poor quality of health care leads to patient deaths and complication during procedures. A research conducted by the Midwest Business group concluded that approximately 30% of expenditures in health care are due to poor the quality of health care. 30% is equivalent to a rough estimate of $390 billion (Meyer, Carrol, Kutyla, Stepnick & Rybowski, 2015). The occurrence of health care associated infections also known as HAI’s has grown to staggering numbers since the past few years. According to some facts and figures, every one in ten patients in a hospital gets affected by a hospital acquire infection and as many as two million patients die annually due to thee infections but these infections are easily preventable and can be controlled if the basic steps are followed thoroughly (Simon, n.d.). If each and every step is ensured and followed thoroughly it will help to optimize both quality patient care and to prevent spread of hospital infections. In case of quality health care of patients, if the leader of the group is strong and helpful for the patients then he sets an example for his workers and this might automatically help in regulation of quality health care, the proper labeling of files with different color codes and computerized printout of forms will help to minimize human errors and also save time, the program to develop resilience among health care providers will teach the doctors, nurses and all the working staff to remain calm when face with pressure and workload because when hospitals are burdened with a great amount of patients then the health care providers start to neglect the quality health care. The first step to prevent spread of hospital acquired infection is the maintenance of hygiene, workers should be trained to wash their hands after handling of any infectious substance, they should be monitored for this, and this will make the basis strong and will help prevent infections in the long run. The establishment of infection control authority will help to a great extent. The authority will be responsible for placing directions all over the premise to maintain hygienic conditions, to ensure that every one is following the steps, to identify if there is any outbreak of infection. The committee will also be responsible for arranging monthly training workshops which will give knowledge to the healthcare providers about the different types of infections, their mode of spread and how to prevent their spread. The only problem that may occur in the follow up of the short term goals is that if these steps are not monitored properly by the regulating authorities then the long term will not be achieved. The simplest solution in prevention of these obstacles is to make a controlling authority that ensures that each step is performed efficiently. The objectives for a week include the provision of quality health care to the patient is to provide the basic setup for the hospital workers. The work for a week in order of their prioritization include Printing of computerized formats which should be made to use effective immediately, The second goal for the week is placement of complain or comment boxes in different parts of the hospital. This can help in ensuring that the patients do not undergo problems while availing the services at the health care facility. The patients or relatives of the patients should be encouraged to use these boxes to suggest or even complain about anything that they find lacking in the provision of health care, they should also be told that everything will remain anonymous so that they don’t hesitate to file their complaints. The immediate requirements for prevention and control of hospital infections include the formation of infection control authority, to hire individuals who best suit this job and inform them of their job duties and responsibilities. There are different types of care plan that needs to be take care of while I work towards these long term goals. Although meeting the goals is very important but our self care is important equally. This includes my psychological, physical and mental self care, all three of these are inter related and if one falters then the other automatically start to decline. I have to assure that I eat regularly and not stress myself much because physical strength is needed to perform the daily duties and short term goals. Taking care of my mental well being is also equally important; I have to see that I do not allow the stress to get to me. These tasks may take months or even years to properly achieve results, which is why I should be patient and not worry about any down sides. Apart from this, I should also maintain a balance between work and life. The only stress that I’m concerned about is if I am faced with failure of not achieving my desired results, if in any case this happens then I would breathe, think and see as to where I am going wrong. I may possibly consult my co-workers for their suggestions. The most important point is keeping calm and maintaining composure until the goals are achieved. My personal mission statement is to strive to proactively provide access to optimal customer service as well as maintaining the highest standards. In order to achieve my mission it is important for me to keep myself focused and not dwell on unnecessary goals and objectives. I can achieve this by focusing on the work that I am given. It is also important to work hard in accordance to the tasks I am given so that I do not fail them in accordance. Moreover, a goal oriented approach is always necessary so that I can overcome complex tasks and achieve my goals. Everything can be achieved with true dedication and commitment. Being hardheaded might as well be a plus point in achieving goals and at the end; once the goals are accomplished I will be happy that I did my job well. I can also achieve my goals by coordinating and supervising the jobs that I have assigned to other people because they are also partly responsible for accomplishing goals. I also have to ensure that the components of the goals that have already been implemented are still being used because if those steps are ignored then I would have to do it all over again which would result in wastage of time. Working hard in order to achieve the goals will also bring me happiness and satisfaction. Once my goals are met, I will be assured that my hard work has paid off and I have helped to save countless lives that are lost daily due to negligence and can be saved with little scrutiny. Achieving my goals will also help me to provide the optimum patient health care services, as a result of which I will get satisfied and happy patients. Achieving my goals will also help me to prevent many incurable, infectious diseases that only exist due to carelessness and lack of proper care and attention. Satisfied customers will help the hospital to progress and prosper. References Meyer, J., Carrol, S., Kutyla, T., Stepnick, L., & Rybowski, L. (2015).
