There are two major types of resistance to change among the employees of the company detected based on the case study information. One of the forms of resistances is ideological resistance, as people are not ready to accept new ideas and say goodbye to their old beliefs. They believe that “digitalization” and “computerization” will lead to the break of fundamental values of the company, as personal contribution via “hand-addressing mailings to arts patrons” will be lost.
Also, all employees demonstrate cognitive type of resistance to change, as they believe that computerization is wrong decision and complete waste of money. Also, Clammer together with the other two employees resist to the opportunity to learn and to take on new things (psychological type of resistance). Clammer also demonstrates pleaser type of resistance, as she has began to do some research for automation and computerization, but still has very skeptical and negative attitude. What can Martin Welk do to overcome the resistance?
