A manager that is outstanding in their performance should be clear in defining the roles of their employees as well as bringing forth the expectations. In addition, such managers depict openness towards their employees

Addressed in the book is the view that managers utilize progressive discipline. The concept of progressive discipline entails the process that is geared towards using very little effort in coming up with solutions to problems. It involves three phases in which the employee should be constantly be involved.

Despite the view by some managers that managing performance is time-consuming, it can yield very good results when it is done in the right way and not much time will be involved.

The inability of an employee to conform to the required change, then that person has no position in that particular organization.

The best way to learn how to be a coaching manager is by trying coaching.

The presence of the most preferable individuals in the right places of the organization makes coaching a success.

Enhance Reflection by: View of the Whole Picture: -employee evaluation, -useful feedback, -connections to performance change

To avoid failure, a special focus on the employees that have preexisting performance issues should be addressed by making them understand their specific roles, in addition, it is important to have mechanisms that can facilitate the monitoring of their progress.

It is important to do a follow with an employee after communicating the expectations to understand and find solutions to performance problems.
