This mission clearly outlines the direction in which the organization is going in a bid to satisfy the needs of the people it serves. 2. In order to fulfill the above-mentioned mission for Kaiser, its operational strategy to reach a sustainable competitive advantage should be based on the notion of quick response (flexible or responsive). As noted, this is a not-for-profit health maintenance organization serving 8.1 million people. The number is just high so it is imperative for the organization to adopt a flexible operational strategy that can allow it to quickly respond to the needs of different people it serves.

This will help to show its total commitment to the cause of providing health care services to the people with special needs in the communities it operates in.The goal of the organization is to uplift the welfare of different people in the communities in which it operates. Therefore, it is imperative for the organization to implement strategies that are meant to ensure that the targeted people get the services they may require as when they may require them. This will help to create trust between the organization and the targeted people such that they will look no further than it for any service related to the health care they may require.

What is only important in this case is to offer satisfactory services to the targeted people so that they can come back again for the same services. When an organization is not operating for profit like Kaiser, then it should appeal to the interests of the targeted people so that they can develop a positive identity with it. 3. The 10 feasible OM decisions to improve Kaiser’s future operations in those areas include the following:• Goods and service design: Kaiser ought to define the goods and services it offers to the targeted people in different areas it operates.

For instance, it should make it clear that it is not for profit organization and it offers free health care related services to different people who belong to less privileged groups. It also ought to make it clear that it is committed to training other people so that they can also play a part in uplifting the welfare of the people in different communities. • Quality: quality is a virtue as far as the healthcare delivery system is concerned. The institution should always strive to ensure that it offers quality services to the targeted people always so as to be in a position to appeal to their interests.

Quality services and products help to attract more clients and this, in turn, can improve the image and reputation of the organization. • Process and capacity design: Efficiency should be improved in the organization such that it can be in a position to serve as many people as possible. This helps it to achieve its desired goals and it can also attract many clients who may require the services it offers.• Layout design: measures should be put in place in order to minimize the waiting time by the customers.

This will also help to improve the efficiency of the organization in its operations. More people will get help whenever they need it without hassles.• Location selection: Convenience is a virtue as far as the operations of the above mention institutions are concerned. People need to get the services quite easily hence the clinics should be conveniently located such that they can be easily accessed by all the people who may require healthcare services. This will also improve the visibility of the institution in a certain community.

• Human resources and job design: there is a need for Kaiser to constantly develop the human resources such that they can be in a position to carry out their duties in a professional way. This will also help in improving the quality of the product delivered to the targeted people if the employees are aware of what would be expected of them.• Supply chain management: the management of the supply chain should be properly carried out so as to make sure that the required drugs are provided just in time (JIT).

In order to achieve this, there should be proper coordination among different groups working for the institution where they provide information about the drugs and other supplies that may be required at a particular period. This also helps the institution to be proactive to the needs of the customers such that it can assist them when required to do so.• Inventory: Kaiser should always make sure that it has enough supplies for the different types of diseases it specializes in. This helps it to promptly address the problems of the clients and it can also help to improve their welfare.

The institution is capable of managing its inventory, it can overcome problems such as shortages or overstocking of drugs. • Scheduling: The institution should try to identify the pattern of demand for certain services so as to be able to optimize the human resources. For instance, the demand for services such as immunization may be high in certain periods and the institution should strive to make sure that it can satisfy these needs without delays since this may compromise its reputation.
