Evaluation of my Job application process Insert of study of the Department Evaluation of my Job application process With the contemporary difficult economic conditions in developed and developing countries, increased global populations, and extensive use of information technology, getting a good job has become a major problem among job seekers. Innovative methods of seeking jobs need to be employed in order to get an advantage over other job seekers. In my opinion, my job seeking strategies can be put as excellent because in most of my application, I have been getting positive feedbacks and landed a number of part time jobs despite the fact that I am still a student. The major types of jobs that I have been seeking from various potential employers are business oriented as per my qualification and academic credentials. Before I started looking for part time employment, my first step was to seek information about recruitment process. The major recruitment processes that employers use are identification of vacancy or need, specifying the job, advertisement of the specified job, managing the response of job seekers, shortlisting, planning for the interview, conducting interviews and making decision on who to recruit. When recruitment processes are taken into account, my areas of interest are how the employment agency identifies and advertise its vacancies, managing responses to job applications, how it plans and conducts the interviews and the appointments formalities (Garner & Alty,2001,p.72). Seeking for Job vacancies Currently, most of job vacancies are usually advertised through media outlets. However, some job vacancies may be advertised through social networks in social arenas such as clubs, churches and family gatherings. Everyday, I go through job advertisements in the media in order to get a vacant position that fits my academic credential. My academic qualifications are bachelor of business management major and diploma in marketing. I always look for business and marketing related vacancies, check the level of work experience needed and other miscellaneous skills such as advanced computer skills. The media outlets that I use when searching for jobs include daily newspaper job advertisements, internet advertisement through job sited such as linked, and television job advertisements. I am active in social interactions especially with professionals and so I use the social networking opportunity to inquire about job opportunities. In my view, searching for job vacancies in different outlets has been assisting me in locating many job vacancies, which I apply and get positive feedback and in some cases, employment opportunities. When one applies for many jobs, the probability of getting a job is higher than for one who makes few job applications (Dexter,2006,p.27). Managing responses to job application Employers or recruiting agency have a duty of analyzing the credential of job applicants before deciding on whom to interview. As such, a job applicant should provide all relevant information that is essential in the process of recruitment. Before applying for any job, I always develop an excellent and professional resume that include my personal information, academic credentials, my goals or future work aspirations, my work experience, and what I can possibly do for the employing agency. When developing my curriculum vitae, I ensure that my objectives meet the requirements of the job. Since the time I started searching for jobs, I have developed different kinds of curricula vitae that fit different needs of different jobs. For instance, my resumes for marketing jobs application are at times different from that of accounting or business administration. The cover letters that I attach to my resumes are near perfect and appeal to the potential employers. The characteristics of my cover letters include being brief and precise hence displaying my message clearly and promptly, they show that I fully understand the mission and goals of the employer, summarizes clearly my past, present and possible future work experience, and may be presented in hard or soft copies depending on the requirement of applications.. In my opinion, my cover letters are always excellent depending on the requirements of the job vacancy and I always take my time to develop appropriate points and edit them accordingly to look professional. Before sending my resumes and cover letters through postal means or online, I edit them to ensure that they contain vital information. I always seek advice from my friends and other professionals before submitting them to the potential employer. From my personal job application experience, application forms are either online or offline. Before I fill online application, I get acquainted to the values, requirements and mission of the employer by reading their websites. This information is essential when filling the application form and during the real interviewing process as every employing agency requires every employee to understand its values, policies and goals(Nutter,2004,p.61). Planning and conducting the interview Each company or employer has its methods of conducting interviews. The common types of interviews are face to face interviews, internet based interviews and face to face interviews. While seeking for employment opportunities, I have ever faced the three major types of interviews, which I prepare well in advance. Before undergoing face to face interview, I usually collect all relevant information about the employers. I seek information from the potential employer’s website, brochures, or any other avenues such as inquiring from the employees of the organization. Most of the interviews are based on the values, objectives and mission of the organization and so knowledge in relevant employee’s data gives one an added advantage when seeking employment. During interviews, I usually present myself as a profession by keeping time, wearing official attire and being confident. Actually, the way I have been representing myself in face to face interview has played a key role in my success in Job seeking. However, my main weakness is that I get nervous before the interview, but I gain confidence on the eve of the interview. During the interviews, I usually answer the questions precisely and avoid putting unnecessary information when providing answers. Online interview have become common as more companies embrace information technology in their systems and strategies. I have done two online interviews, one of which I managed to get positive results. From my experience, online interviews test the academic skills of an individual by providing a test sample that an interviewee will need to complete within a specified time. I managed to pass online interview because of my extensive skills in business related studies and creativity. I have undertaken one phone interview in which the employer asked me about the company and questions about current affairs. Since I was conversant with latest trends in business, I managed to pass the interview and got a part time job. Basing on my face to face interview, online interview and phone interview, it is evident that my job seeking skills and capabilities are excellent since I was aware of what interviews entail and managed to prepare for them in advance (McCormick,2002,p.104). Appointments formalities Before making any application, I ensure that appointment formalities are in place. These are original academic transcripts and certificates. In addition, I conduct thorough research on the payment structures of the organization to ensure that I am applying for a job that is rewarding. Theories employed in my Job search One of the theories that I employ in my job hunting mission and making applications is the search theory. Currently, Jobs are scarce resulting in frictional unemployment. As such, job hunting has become an essential tool of looking for a job, resulting in the development of innovative modalities of looking for employment opportunities. According to this model, when a job searcher does not have any clue about job offers in the market, there is a great motivation to search for Jobs, which result in learning about a range of job offers in the market. In my case, I search for jobs in media outlets and social networks in order to get conversant with the job offers in the market, their remuneration and the opportunity they offer for career growth (Dessler,2000,p.97). Matching theory states that the rate in which new jobs are formed depends on the firm’s decision to open job vacancies and the decision of potential employees to search for Jobs. In the contemporary Job market, people who search for jobs are greater than the number of vacancies that employers form. As such, the competitiveness of jobs is extremely high calling for innovative ways of searching for jobs. Basing on this theory, my job searches has become innovative because I use up to date methods such as use of job search networks, interacting heavily with professionals, incessant online searches and inquiries, and near perfect job application processes such as developing state of art resumes. By employing excellent job application techniques, my job applications have been successful (Dexter,2006,p.72). In conclusion, I believe my job application processes are excellent. Before applying for any job, I search for relevant information about the job vacancy, develop good resumes and cover letter, and make accurate applications. As a result, most of my application has been accepted and interviews organized. The models that I have been using in my job applications are matching theory and search theory, which are vital in developing innovative ways of searching and applying for jobs.
