Admission for EBMA 0 Goal Setting By making use of Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time- framed (SMART) objectives it is possible to set short term and long term goals that are achievable within one’s skill set and career preferences (Thomas, pp,48). My SMART plan 1.1 Specific goals The main objective I have to achieve upon pursuing management course at Stern is to work in management profession at a company that has its operations globally. I would like to work in an environment that promotes professional learning and enables me to enhance my leadership skills to a great extent. For achieving this goal I will achieve all these specific goals listed below; 1. I will complete my graduation education within the stipulated period of time and achieve excellent academic results, acquire knowledge on key areas which will help in toning up my management related skills. 2. I will achieve a job position in a business environment that allows me to grow professionally. 3. I will attain the leadership skills required to enable me move ahead at rapid paces in my career. 1.2 Measurable goals I have to successfully complete the Masters in Business Administration course work first within the course duration. . In order to work in an international organization I have to concentrate on understanding multi cultural communication. The university offers excellent opportunity and during my course work I will acquire related knowledge. 1.3 Attainable goals My short term goals are based on the level of attainability they have. Taking into consideration the current status of my career my priority will be heavily on completing my Masters in Business Administration course in an effective manner. Over the duration of the program I will concentrate on enhancing my communication, leadership and other such skills required of a business administrator in operations of an organization. Upon completion of the course I want to be able to devise a CV that is specific to the business administration field, which will help improve the prospects of me achieving employment in a leading organization operating on a global scale. 1.4 Relevant goals I will submit all work related to course in a manner that gives excellent results. I will outperform all students involved in the course. I will make use of opportunities provided by the university during my education to get more knowledgeable on both the theoretical and practical concepts of management. 1.5 Time framed The time scale of completion of my course work has to be in correspondence to the end date specified by the University for my business administration Course Work. The progress that I am able to achieve will be continuously measured on semester basis to ensure I am in track in order to achieve my career goals. Long term and short term goals Short term goals My short term goals are to attend all course related classes and take part in seminars organized at university related to business administration. I want to acquire skills required to further enhance my administration skills. I want to obtain a challenging and innovative job in the international market according to my career focus, which helps me to learn and to grow professionally. Long term goals Having managerial experience over a period of 2 years I have acquired practical management related skills. I want to accumulate theoretical as well as practical knowledge related to business administration practices through the course at Stern. As the exposure I have related to international business practices is limited by pursuing this course I want to enhance my cross culture working abilities. By widening my skill set based on a strong theoretical back ground I will grow to be a business leader and thus enhance my career opportunities on an international basis. I want to improve my knowledge and professional skills in the upcoming technologies and to achieve such a position which worth according to my experience and knowledge. My long-term goals are towards making a positive impact in the company though my expertise and ethics. I also look forward to develop myself in leadership areas through experience and training offered by the company. 2.0 High functioning study groups and my role My role in the study group I would like to take up responsibility and leadership in a group. During the group work I want to place myself in an active participatory position. I want to carry out the task setting role as I have diverse experience I can ensure that tasks are set according to the skill set of the team members. I will also be a key player in the group activities as I believe active participation of all members will help the team succeed. I am creative, task oriented and I have good working skills as a team member also. Apart from taking the role of a leader I can also perform well as a team member and perform the assigned tasks in an effective manner. It is not essential that only upon taking the leadership role the contribution to the team will be high. Thus given the role of a team member also I will perform in an exceptional manner and take active participation in group discussions, activities and such. I can take up an advisory role as I have good analytical skills. I can offer advisory solutions in the financial realm as this is the key area of my expertise. Professional character benefitting group The one professional characteristic which I have identified myself to be good at is in offering managerial advisory solutions related to my area of expertise and the one key personality which I am strong in is undertaking work in a task oriented manner. As management operations are not restricted to task allocation alone I will make use of my working skill which is task oriented to better the group activities. I am an analytical thinker and this gives me the needed base to analyze and decide upon possible ways to tackle a difficult situation. I strive towards perfection in tasks and I have a broad skill set based upon a sound educational background. If I set a goal I work hard at achieving it in a focused manner. Staying focused helps me concentrate on the task at hand I am a quick learner and I can easily grasp the concepts and understand them better and my problem solving skills are good which ensures the task allocation is carried out in an efficient manner. I have good professional judgment skills and I can identify the working potential of a person. Having worked as an architecture consultant I can understand the requirements of a project and allocate tasks according the skill set and capacity of a person. Task allocation does not end with assigning the tasks alone and it is essential that progress is noted. I can get tasks done in an efficient manner as I have the capability to work with team members to help them with their tasks. As the group will have a diverse mix of backgrounds I can offer expert solutions in my professional area of expertise and work in an interactive manner with the group. I believe that task allocation is the key to the success of a group as it the tasks are assigned in an appropriate manner taking into consideration the skill set of each member success is assured. 3.0 Issues and my solutions Contemporary issue identification I would like to undertake further enhancement in the New Product Development (NPD) process. NPD and innovation are key to the success of any business organization. They must be included in the strategic plan of a company to ensure high profits and survival of the company. Bringing in new products requires innovation and knowledge in the core areas of the operations of a company. Its importance to me During the duration of my career I have worked in product development teams for over five years. I understand the need for introducing new products into the market and I have the potential to offer innovative solutions to the company. I have held architecting positions in various firms during my career and I realize that NDP is the most important source of income for a company. Having worked in products on a personal basis I would like to make use of my experiences in bring out innovative ideas. NPD is important to me as a product champion is required to bring out new products with his enthusiasm and expertise. Bringing up a new product will be a challenging project and I can show my fullest working potential to the company. I can improve my skill set by taking up leadership position in such a high profile working environment. I can also improve my interaction skills when it comes to customers spread globally by making use of such an opportunity. For my professional advancement and excellence leading a team in bringing out a new product into the market will improvise my career to a great extent. My role in NDP I have the technical expertise in product development, architecting and designing. I can understand the core requirements of a project and this will ensure the manner with which I allocate the tasks to the resources at hand will be an efficient one. Due to my financial analysis skills I can perform an evaluation of the costs incurred by the company and analyze the net profits that can be generated. I can enhance my leadership skills during the course of the project and it will enhance my evaluation and financial skills. An estimate of people resource is essential to meet with the demands of an NDP process. The skill set of resources needed has to be first found out and upon that the acquired skills have to be allocated tasks relating to their skill set. As I have task allocation skills I can ensure the task allocation process is carried out in an efficient manner. I can also take active participation in the NPD and offer technical solutions in all stages of the process development. When it comes to skills I have to further leverage. I have to convert my leadership qualities into that of a transformational leader. Leadership skills concentrating on the development of the team to achieve a preset vision or goal, are referred to as transformational leadership skills. Communication skills are required and they form the basis of a good leader. They are vital to the growth of the individual, as communication is the key factor related to the transmission of information, and miscommunication results in poor performance of the individual.
