?Operation and Supply Chain Management THESIS MENT This paper intends to represent the summary of two articles corresponding to operation and supply chain management (SCM). ARTICLE 1 The first article “Efficiency of Supply Chain Management: Strategic and Operational Approach,” written by Grzegorz Lichocik and Adam Sadowski is aimed at explaining the issues of supply chain management effectiveness in the context of general concepts and theoretical considerations pertaining to supply chain management. The study is primarily based on the measurements of effectuality of the activities within logistics along with the supply chain management. It has been ascertained that efficiency is considered as a term, which can be interpreted in a multi-aspect manner associated with the concerned subject. Operation management represents the advanced designs, operations and latest improvement in the organisation dealing with delivering of products and services. This article mainly focuses the authors’ view on the area of logistic that relates with the supply chain management theories. Efficiency of any operation frames the basic problem pertaining to the aspects of economics along with management (Lichocik and Sadowski 119-125). As far as the supply chain theories are concerned, issues associated with efficiencies basically reflects process being involved in logistic field. Lichocik (2013) has further focused on the logistic rules, which claims that activities being involved in the logistic area must be carried out in an effective manner. System structure, human resource and incentive systems are certain factors, which plays a significant role pertaining to efficiency. Furthermore, it has been observed that appropriate model which has been analysed, frames the basis for considering the logistic operations as effectual (Lichocik and Sadowski 119-125). In this regard, it has been ascertained from the article that the efficiency of supply chain is measured through a set of indicators such as customer services. In this context, the indicators basically monitors the entire supply chain process, which fails to provide ample solutions to the prevalent issues. In consideration with the strategic determination of the SCM, it has been ascertained that by implying strategic decision, effective solution pertaining to a particular issue can be achieved. Moreover, the authors have researched upon the numerous activities being undertaken by various industries. The outcome of the research reveals that an effective Supply chain incorporates certain vital factors. The supply chain being involved in delivering process must be cost–effective. In this context, it must ensure economic efficiency of a supply chain. Correspondingly, the supply chain process is being advocated to be functional, which can be achieved by reducing the processes being involved. In relation to the aforesaid scenario, it can be further analysed that effective lean management must frame an important part of the process (Lichocik and Sadowski 119-125). The authors have radically focused upon the importance of logistic outsourcing in recent scenario. It has been observed that maintaining a logistic potential ensures generation of fixed cost within the company irrespective of any prevailing market demand. The objective of the article basically relates with the efficiency of the SCM. The authors have taken into consideration secondary resources for conducting the research study. They have considered various literatures related to SCM for conducting the research study. The results reveals about the various determinants of SCM. Furthermore, the findings also reveals about the cost-effectiveness and lean management as an important part of the SCM in the field of logistic (Lichocik and Sadowski 119-125). ARTICLE 2 The second article, “Use Of Sales And Operations Planning In Small And Medium-Sized Enterprises” written by Michal Adamczak, Roman Domanski and Piotr Cyplik focuses on the integration of planning process as an effective way for reducing prices of products and services as well as for improving the internal process. According to the authors, increase in competition within the market has accelerated the expectations of the consumers in terms of timely delivering processes and reduction in the prices of the products. Furthermore, it has been observed from the article that these expectations have forced the modern organizations to improve their effectuality in SCM process. Sales and Operation Planning (SOP) represents a process, which assist in creating tactical plans to ensure organization’s competitive advantage. The authors have further involved in the in-depth analysis of the SOP’s importance pertaining to organizations and supply chains. In this context, it has been ascertained from the article that SOP assist the organization in eliminating barriers pertaining to the information flow. Furthermore, SOP application also ensures identification of the requirements based on long-term tenure (Adamczak, Domanski and Cyplik 11-19). Considering the findings of the researchers, it has been ascertained that they have identified six elements pertaining to SOP. Accordingly, design of an article, planning involved in sales, transport planning, production planning, planning related to supplies and the budgeting represents the six elements pertaining to SOP. The assumptions of the authors based on the research study conducted revealed that the micro-companies usually avoid undertaking this particular mechanism because it is labour overwhelming in contrast to profit limitations by its implementation. The findings also reveal that effectiveness of the SOP implementation greatly depends upon the size of the organization. Furthermore, the author also demonstrated that in the smaller companies, the responsibility pertaining to the entire process mainly depends upon the owner (Adamczak, Domanski and Cyplik 11-19). Furthermore, the authors have dedicatedly applied primary research methodology for conducting the research study. It has been revealed that the authors have conducted various researches in differentiated industries to gather relevant data. It has been ascertained that the conducting interview sessions with the mangers facilitated authors in acquiring an in-depth analysis of the SOP implementation. It been analysed that 10 companies have been involved in the survey method for deriving information. The interview sessions reveals about the SOP aspects and strategic planning pertaining to the organizational development. The research methodology undertaken by the authors also aided in gaining factual data and relevancy of SOP in quantify terms (Adamczak, Domanski and Cyplik 11-19). The findings reveal that SOP greatly depends upon the size of the company. Furthermore, it has been ascertained that sales and operations planning lays a greater impact on the organizations development. The sales volume along with its operational process is directly proportional to the size of the organization. Thus, it can be ascertained that logistics operation is a vital part, which must me strategically implemented within the organizational activities to gain competitive advantages over others (Adamczak, Domanski and Cyplik 11-19).
