? Improving Technology management In order for an Information Technology Manager to improve the performance of the technological based employees he should have good management skills, which involves determining both the probability, and the impact of occurrence. Technology management is a common method used by many managers to determine issue, assessing it, and identifying various steps to minimize the issues to a certain level, which can be acceptable. This paper gives a foundation for the development of a good management program, including both definitions and some practical guidelines necessary for improving risks identified within Information Technology systems (Khosrowpour, 1999). The main aim and goals is to help obtain the necessary management skills to manage the Information Technology department. Goals and Objectives The chief role of this channel is to make sure that the organization accomplishes its goals through having a good knowledge on how to use the Information Technology systems that store, process, and transmit the required information of the organization. Secondly, the management can achieve this by ensuring that the management make good risk management decisions to minimize expenditures that are also part of IT budget, and thirdly is by helping the Information Technology systems management on the purpose of making use of the supporting software documentation resulting from the performance of the risk management. Target Audience The main audience used to identify these issues, and concerns leading to poor Technology management are the personnel who support the management process for their Information Technology systems. These personnel include: The senior management who make decisions concerning the Technology systems Federal Chief Information Officers who ensure implementation of risk management and security to IT systems Designated Approving Authority (DAA) who makes the final decision on whether to allow usage of IT system or not. IT security program managers who are responsible for providing security for the IT systems. Information system security officers (ISSO) responsible for the IT security. There was evident support of IT functions by the manufactures of the software Possessor of information kept, processed, and disseminated by the IT systems Technical Support personnel who support the security provided for the IT systems. The system and application programmers IT quality assurance personnel Information system auditors IT consultants Strategies and techniques used to improve technology management Information Technology management is a technique used by many companies to take advantage of the available Information Technology resources to increase and improve the pace of production and create a competitive business operations. Many business or managers may fail to fully implement and make use of Information Technology in their due to the expenses, maintenance and upgrade requirements. However, this can be through developing good Information Technology management strategies in the company. The managers should also find a good way of using technology to improve and increase the company’s productivity and operations. Corporate strategy Managers to set the overall direction of a company use corporate strategy. The business shareholders and department managers determine the financial markets the corporation will function in, how to get the required materials and resources, and how to get its products into the marketplace (Tesar, 2003). The information Technology department should assist the company in achieving these goals. For example, the Information Technology systems can use the company’s website to advertise and sell the company goods and services online in markets. The technology department can also use the systems to order materials from dealers, and using commerce software to make forecasts for productions and sales of the company. Business strategy This strategy only focuses on one division, department, and product line in the company. Managers and the business owners use the Information Technology to deliver information within the company’s departments and integrate activities to reduce needless activities (Khosrowpour, 1999). A number of businesses successfully use Information Technology to increase and improve their internal operations. Implementing and using Information Technology help managers to determine and set goals and objectives of the company. It also helps the managers conduct a performance review process to determine how the company should achieve its goals. Functional strategy This strategy makes use of the Information Technology to manage the daily activities that occurs in the business. This strategy will help the company to acquire some improvements in the accounting, finance, and the human resource departments. Information Technology, computers, application software, and use of internet advantageously change all the manual processes within the company to automatic ones which improve the employees output. Although this seems to be an easy task, implementing Information Technology to work is a bit complicated. Functional strategy use is to improve the company’s productions using short-time frames in order to complete the implementation process. Techniques used to improve Technology Management To realize this, there is the extensive use of methods to sustain management of projests. This could include the body of knowledge within the entire project, a process that has ensured use of special ways of management to realize expected targets. The only drawback for using this method is that it does not fact in the function of other related companies, but only concentrates on the organizational goals for the organization in question. Business Technology Management techniques help in eliminating this problem and attempt to ensure a well strategic management plan. In order to implement Business Technology Management principles, the managers should develop a flexible and a comprehensive process (Tesar, 2003). The main aim here is to avoid redundancy and establish practices, which will work efficiently and appropriately. Additionally, the manager should ensure management and governances are done by senior stakeholders in the company. Through centralization of sponsorship, a consistent directive and activities concerning strategic objectives and goals should be provided. The manager should provide rational and part-time assignments to provide a good outlook and ensure that the governing body is regularly based. Focus groups or project team should be established in the company to handle and respond to certain specific needs. The manager must make sure that he provides enough and relevant information conserning every decision making (Khosrowpour, 1999). The IT department should produce Operational data and performance counting and issue them to other managers for them to appreciate the content of their employee activities. Technology department should interconnect all departments in the company. The Information Technology department should automate all tasks, production, and distribution of required reports within the company in order to improve the employee’s performance. Make sure that the company accepts all the rules and regulations at each level. The Business Technology Management abilities that business achieve by using these management activities results in organizational improvements. Select a good project that favors all strategic goal of each functional department in the business. The organization can best utilize all its technology through matching funds with the project needs. By doing all these, results will be continuing success since Technology Management ensures performance of company vision and mission statements.
