3. Using the Leadership Grid and its underlying leader behaviors of “concern for results” and “concern for people,” explain the leadership orientation of Ingvar Kamprad. The leadership orientation of Ingvar Kamprad is toward team leadership which is based on high production and high people. The company was able to provide superior products than the competition at affordable prices. Innovation was also an important aspect of the success of the company. One of the greatest ideas of the company was stackable boxes that could be mailed or transported and reassembled at home.
The employees of the company were important for the firm. 4. Use the concepts of transactional, transformational, charismatic, and authentic leaders to describe the leadership of Ingvar Kamprad. Ingvar Kamprad was a great leader. If I was to choose the type of leader that he is I have to categorize him as an authentic leader. “Authentic leaders demonstrate a passion for their purpose, practice their values consistently, and lead with their hearts as well as their heads” (George, Sims, McLean, Mayer, 2007).
Ingvar got the respect of his employees because he worked harder than them despite being a rich person. He empowered his employees and trusted them. 5. What are the key leadership lessons provided by Kamprad’s experiences? The case study about IKEA provided many leadership lessons that students can learn from. First of all Ingvar Kamprad demonstrated that managers and leaders can be humble and down to earth and yet be effective and gain the respect of the workers. The corporate culture of IKEA allowed the company the ability to maximize the efforts of the workers because everyone was part of a movement towards excellence.

In order for me to become a better leader I have to improve my verbal communication skills. Good leaders are able to inspire others through their words and messages. A way to improve my verbal communication skills is by taking additional college credits in English courses. A second ability or skill that I need to improve to become a better leader is my research skills. Good leaders are able to find solutions to problems by reading and researching for ideas. A way I could improve my research skills is by spending more time at online and physical libraries reading information about business, current affairs, and international relations among other topics.
