Globalization [Topic] Introduction The concept of Globalization is far more complex than it seems. With deep historical roots leading up to the present day, globalization has no definite definition. It is rather a way of how the world is connected in all the sectors of human life, from technological, economical, political, socio-cultural and even environmental developments. All this a major contributing factor towards the presentation of a world democracy where there is a large market economy with ease of access for individuals around the world (Rennen, 2003, p. 139). Globalization now a day is a very heated topic, both on the positive side and the negative side. Many are against globalization due to their belief in the sovereignty of a country with everything being centralized and many are for it as it is giving them a larger ground to play. Although debated as a capitalist concept, globalization is the need of the day with everyone some way or another involved in the process. Countries are involved in doing trades, people are involved through internet, and people immigrate for better work, processes like these make globalization a true fact and a reality that has contributed much towards the scope of International Relations. Globalization and America When the world talks about power, wealth, innovation and capitalism, America is the country they direct to. The concept of Globalization thus emerging from the U.S depicts that it is a new way of how United States want to be perceived in the comity of nations. The power of globalization residing within the U.S, it then is much like a dictatorship towards a freely moving and changing concept. The foreign policy and the domestic policy has deep effect over how the world rotates in making their future decision, hence globalization power is much affected by the transparency of work that is going on around between countries (Shuja, 2001, p. 259). Globalization Past Globalization has been a topic in the past three decades but wasn’t talked about much as it would soon lead to riots. During the past people would have different views about globalization, the concept although practiced was much biased towards the use of the individuals who used it in their own way. Some argued that Globalization was much like an Evolutionary process that happened towards the stabilization the masses and some said that it was always present but not much attention given due to not the right use of this measure. It was also tried to be given a pluralist approach where it could fulfill multi-dimensional needs of the time. The past leads towards the inception of capitalism. The concept of globalization hence is directed towards the needs of adding more labor or setting up work around countries, in the past it was much related to conquering. (Urry, 1999, p. 312) Present form The concept that is derived from the west has all the indications to grow as governments try to work towards uniformity, universalism and particularism under every regional, global and national political measure. Globalization then also gives the leaders of the country to put the blame due to external forces when they talk about globalization. Hence globalization takes blames for the different policies that are practiced around the world. Presently globalization has many different areas that it covers. Major of those are discussed further. Globalization in Economy: Globalization in market economy has trended since ages although the term might have not been used but the concept of cross country trade through clothing, business ties etc has always been present. The aim, as always was to build upon the capital invested. Globalization takes the world as one economic unit where countries compete to their good around the world. It is then a great medium towards the transfer of knowledge into economical practices providing opportunities to all in the contribution towards the economic cycle. Even if capitalism is taken out of the equation, the globalization was still persistent all around such an example would be Dutch United East Indies Company which was a multinational company and operated its operations only internationally. (Rennen, 2003, p. 138) Technological contribution towards globalization: Technological impact in globalization has been one of the most profound where it has been able in helping towards interconnection and intensification. Dating back to its origins of connectedness through transport, the stream engine in 1765 was perhaps the origin of technological prospect of globalization. Since then, the technological aspect has added much towards paving the ways on ocean and on land. Then on out, the innovations of telegraph started to connect messages around the globe, the light bulb, telephone, electricity then started to be regularized around the world contributing largely towards globalization process. This was a great elevation towards the global networking from modern cell phones, internet portals and a major contribution towards the global economic market. E-commerce is the face of globalization which connects technology and market economy around the world. (Rennen, 2003, p. 137) Political dimensions of globalization: The impact of globalization in politics cannot be forgotten as the leadership impacts the opportunities for private entrepreneurship. During the 19th century, the British leadership worked on the free trade policies and the European system is much more politically globalized as other systems long before the 20th century. This system of practice in Europe led towards a larger Global GDP hence the political freedom helped both in technological advancements as well as business regulation around the region. (Shuja, 2001, p. 258) Conclusion Globalization throughout the centuries has been emerging up and is still aiming towards the growth. As a combined world people are starting to realize that being limited to boundaries limits the resources, the labor and the entrepreneurship ability. Certain practices around the world enable globalization to grow much more than others and this effect regionally and in each country. Contribution factor of technology, politics, economy play the most important role towards providing the opportunity to have globalization as one uniting body. There are then two aspects of globalization that are much linked towards how people perceive it, there are anti-globalist and globalists.
