Chapter Discussion s 23rd October Positive and Negative externalities Wessels (2006) described externalities as “consequences that arise from an economic activity, which is experienced by unrelated third parties.”Positive externalities associated with the copy centera) Tree farmers experience an adequate demand for their produce since trees are used to manufacture papers that will be used at the copy center.b) Resellers of copy papers enjoy an adequate demand of copy papers from the copy center.

Negative externalities associated with the copy centera) The increased demand of copy papers deprives the society the opportunity to enjoy adequate tree cover.b) Publishers and authors fail to earn additional income since some of their works are not bought in their original format since they are simply recopied. The case of Apple Inc One of the positive externalities that can be associated with Apple Inc is that it helps in building and maintaining relationships since their gadgets/ products enable adequate communication between two different parties located in different locations.

However, one of the key negative externality associated with Apple Inc is the fact that through its products it contributes to global warming. Once Apple Inc is able to ensure that all of its products consume less energy and emit very less amounts of greenhouse gases then the government would slow down on enforcing some of its environmental regulations such as the ‘cap and trade’ policy.Economics of crimeWays of reducing crime in Greensboro, NCa) Ensuring that Greensboro, NC is a drug free city This policy would make a good economic policy because of the fact that most criminals engage in illegal intake and even resale of drugs.b) Creating more employment opportunities This policy would make a good economic policy because of the fact that most criminals are agitated to engage in criminal activities as a way of surviving since they lack jobs.

Economic analysis would assist in understanding why there could be a reduction in crime in the city of Greensboro, NC because an increase in crime is usually associated with unfavorable economic condition that deprives many people opportunities to engage in economic activities.
