Critical s Paul E. Gabriel, Curtis Johnson and Timothy J. Stanton wrote the article “An Examination of Customer Racial Discrimination in the Market for Baseball Memorabilia.”
2. In this article, authors sought to ascertain whether there was evidence of racial inequity in the market for baseball memorabilia especially against the minority groups (Gabriel, Johnson & Stanton 215).
3. The article used empirical method.
4. After analyzing rookie cards data from 1984 to 1990, authors realized that there were no discrepancies, which they had anticipated before would result from racial inequity or other factors (Gabriel, Johnson & Stanton 215). Hence, there were no lower card prices for blacks or the Hispanic players, which contrasted with former studies contacted in 1990 and 1991 (Gabriel, Johnson & Stanton 215). In addition, Gabriel, Johnson and Stanton through empirical analysis found out that, ethnicity had no adverse influence on card values from 1984 to 1990 (Gabriel, Johnson & Stanton 215).
5. Authors through this article have managed to clear speculations or doubts commonly held by the public regarding the influence of ethnicity on card values and inequity, which they thought existed between 1984 and 1990. This is via contacting successful empirical analysis of the then rookie cards data for both pitchers and hitters (Gabriel, Johnson & Stanton 228).
6. However, this study’s results contrast with both 1990 and 1991 analyses; contacted by other experts whose conclusions exhibited adverse influence of ethnicity on card values besides resulting to other discrepancies (Gabriel, Johnson & Stanton 228). This is because Gabriel, Johnson and Stanton contacted analysis of rookie card prices for the active players only and excluded the retired members. Therefore, they ought to have included both age groups, which would give reliable information devoid of contrasting statistics.
