Effect of Wal-Mart: Outline Introduction Wal-Mart is one of the oldest retailing outlets in the history of US and has been a part of frequent debate. The focus of the debate has always been that whether Wal-Mart is good or bad for the US economy.2. Wal-Mart is good for the US economy because it creates employment in the region it is located, it offers higher amount of compensation and benefits to employees, Wal-Mart offers high quality products, the organization is a heavy contributor of taxes and the organization protects the environment.Body3. In favor of Wal-Marta.

Wal-Mart is recognized for creating jobs in the region they locate.i. During 2009 Wal-Mart announced through a press release that they will create 22000 jobs within United States by expanding stores (Mitchell, 2009).b. Wal-Mart pays higher amount of compensation for low skilled jobs.i. Employees working in retail industry are low skilled and are not usually paid more than minimum wage level, but Wal-Mart pays competitive wages to employees. ii. Wal-Mart pays higher amount of health insurance benefits to its employees than other retailing outletsc.

Wal-Mart is recognized for providing consumers with high quality products as compared to small retail outlets located within a region.d. Wal-Mart is one of the highest tax payers as it does huge amount of business. i. Wonderling states that during 2007 Wal-Mart contributed $80 million in state and local level taxes and $300 million in sales tax (Wonderling 42). e. Wal-Mart is an environment friendly organization.i. Wal-Mart has planned to obtain energy for its stores through solar energy.4. Against Wal-Marta.

Wal-Mart Creates unemployment in the region.i. When an outlet of Wal-Mart opens up, local small size retailer’s shutdown and jobs are lost. Wal-Mart sells Chinese manufactured products due to which local manufacturers have experienced a decrease in demand and this has led to shutdown of manufacturing plants which in turn leads to unemployment in manufacturing sector.b. Wal-Mart pays less than other retailing outlets in compensation and benefitsi. According to Redovich, when federal agencies conducted a raid on Wal-Mart, they figured out that the organization is hiring illegal immigrants who charge less and work without health benefits (Redovich 41).

Due to this the likely hood of US citizens getting a better paying job at Wal-Mart decreases. c. Wal-Mart is the reason due to which local manufacturers and small size retailers loose their business.i. Small size retailers are not able to sell at as competitive prices as Wal-Mart because they can not import in bulk as Wal-Mart does, due to this citizens prefer purchasing at Wal-Mart. ii. Wal-Mart imports goods and kick local manufacturers out of business.d. Wal-Mart is involved in evasion of taxesConclusion5.
