Running Header: Game Concept Your name: Course name: Professors’ name: Date Game note summary The story line of this game is borrowed from the Allied invasion of German army who occupied France in the wake of the World War II. The main idea in this case is to make an invasion that will overpower the enemy, the defending forces while they fiercely defend the fort. The idea is mimicking what happened in 1944 in Normandy when the US led troops invaded the German fortress. In this case, the characters are the army soldiers of both side and their respective war resources that are supposed to be utilize in the most appropriate way in order to win over the enemy. As depicted in the diagram, the invading army will face a number of obstacles which includes stakes and hedgehogs, miles of barbed wire and land mines before even reaching the fortress. The defending army has devastating machine gun, the MG 42 which can fire up to 1500 bullets per minute on the approaching army. The genre is therefore based on the success and the failures experienced by both the defending and the attacking forces. The attacking forces have the numbers while the defending forces have the superior weapons and knowledge of terrain as well as many fortresses, both fake and real. Storyline The back story of this game is based on the Allied invasion of German who had occupied France during the World War II. The idea of this game is to make an invasion to the fortress by taking out the live guarded points by the Germans soldiers defending the Normandy landings. The main idea in this case is for the attacking army from the ocean to successfully attack and beach in order to get through to the German fortress where they can attack and destroy the German presence in the land. Based on the fact that the Germans both in the World War I and World War II was a strong force, an allied force, the French, the Britons and the Americans combined effort with the aim of overcoming the resilient German forces that had proved extremely powerful and armed with devastating ammunition. From the original idea, there were many obstacles as well as the Allied invasion plans to successfully concur the German fortress, the idea was therefore to overcome all the obstacles in order to secure the fortress, the Germans in the other hand wanted to overcome the Allied invasion in order to concur Europe under Adolf Hitler. The game depicts what happened in June 06 1944 in the code named beach, the Omaha beach. This has been achieved by mimicking the obstacles that the US forces faced in order to successfully capture the fortress. In essence, the US forces were mandated the task of taking the beach while the other Allied army attacked from other sides. Once the beach is taken over, then the joint operations could commence in order to destroy the German resistance and finally kill their ambition to take over Europe. This game is made challenging from the fact that not all the strategies will work, just like what the US forces faced back then when they faced the MG 42 as they entered the Omaha beach (Neil, 2009). Game World Description Basically the game begins by air force which tries to shoot down the German fortress from the air before finally attacking the fortress with armed soldiers. It is important to be successful with the air strike in order to weaken the enemy. In this game, just like what happened to the US forces in Omaha beach, the air strikes were unsuccessful. The game will thus ensure that the targets are hard to take out and hence leading to a ground operation which is even much harder. Essentially as depicted in the diagram below, the Allied army will approach from the ocean with fast wave containing soldiers ready to fire within a short distance from the first German fortress armed with one of the most technologically advanced weapon the MG 42( Aden, 2005). Once the soldiers overcome at least five of these fortresses in the first stage of the beach, they will then face a 600 feet of hedgehogs and stakes aimed at slowing down their pace while they face hundreds of bullets from a defending German forces. The next stage after the stakes and hedgehogs is the 800 feet of miles of rows of barbed wires and land mines. This stage is aimed at eliminating any soldiers that have survived the two earlier stages. At this stage, constant fire from the German forces is continuing and becoming even more accurate as the soldiers or the targets become lesser. The last stage of the beach is the 200 feet of dunes where the main German fortress is visible and the soldiers can begin to take them down. Once the soldiers overcame the Omaha beach, the German Fortress will be the next obstacle as there are challenging issues such as false fortress built by the Germans to derail the energies of the invading army and super armed fortress that will target the incoming army in all the directions. More so, inside the fortress as depicted in the diagram below, there are forests which are armed with mines and empty manmade lakes which can be flooded in order to destroy an invading army are strategically placed. This is specifically important if the invading army is from the air, these lakes will be flooded once the parachutes are observed to be descending to the fortress. On the other hand, the invading army has options; it has dummy parachutes which can be deployed to deceive the German army leading them to direct their vital fire arms to armatures. More so, the invading army can deploy false sound of loud speakers which perfectly mimic the sounds of exploding bombs and fire shootout. This will again help to derail the efforts of the German army as the real army attacks the fort from a different direction that the enemy least expects. Other important resources available for the Germans includes the MG 42 machine gun which can fire up to 1500 bullets per minute, strong and visioned leaders as well as thousands of ammunition and fortress as well as adequate knowledge of the terrain. The invading army has the strongest weapon, army numbers and weapons such as artilleries and tanks which can mimic normal cars and can swim to the beach where the fight is happening Gameplay This game can be played by two players or one player against the computer, the unique things about the game is the ability to choose the sides to take, either the Allied forces of the German defence forces. Once the player has chosen the side information about the available weapons and strategies as well as the obstacles that they have to face are presented to them, time for planning on the based strategy as well as taking time to carry out intelligence is carried out at this stage. The main goal of the opponents is either to take the fortress or defend the fortress depending on the position taken. The main challenge in this case is to ensure that the enemy is destroyed with minimal casualties in the process of attacking or defending. More so, the challenge will also include planning on the best attacking strategy including misleading the attacking army into wasting vital resources and taking out their crucial resources at the same time. The game is therefore based on the best attacking or defending strategy that will supersede the enemy’s strategies. Different resources both the ammunitions and the army will be given different responsibilities at different stages, this will be a major challenge as the army numbers as well as the resources are limited and the war can only be won or lost once these resources are depleted (Merlock, 2000). Some of the hints of overcoming the challenges includes, deploying a false army on the side of the attacking Allied forces and building fake fortress on the side of the defending army in order to waste the Allied forces resources. Since both sides have tricks at their disposal, it is upon the commander to choose which strategy to adapt in order to be successful. Once the war has commenced, there is no turning back even if the resources are depleted much faster than anticipated. Since the bottom line of the game is to mimic the challenges that the Allied Forces faced in the code named Omaha beach during the D-day, the goal is to bring out better ideas that could have altered the success of the war then using the same resources that the Allied and the German Forces had then. The game is also technically designed to allow either side to win since there is more than one strategy which can be successfully employed to ensure that the war is successful (Catherine & Joanne, 2010, p.67). Genre The genre of this gameplay is based on the success and the failures experienced by the Allied US led forces and the defending German forces in Normandy. Competition According to Ola (2011, p.45) one game similar to the one described is the Dual strike; its story line is the continuation of the previous series. Dual Strike focuses on strategy just like the proposed game, the OMAHA BEACH. Dual Strike objective is to concur the enemy army with own army. In this game, there are two ways of winning the fight, either by destroying the enemy units or capturing it headquarters. The second game is the Armored Brigade; this game is a real time tactical war-games which focuses on realism and playability. The players in this game control the tanks as well as vehicles from a perspective known as top-down. The gameplay in this game is based on the Soviet Rifleman advancing to a town guarded by artillery smokescreen. The participants control the vehicles and the war arsenal available in order to win the war (Sunha & Mido, 2010, p.23). The uniqueness of the OMAHA BEACH to these two identified games is the fact that the OMAHA BEACH gives chances of participants, the computer against one player who can take either side of the battle (this is usually not there in many games including the two identified). On the other hand the OMAHA BEACH is much longer and involves more obstacles; the players also have to control large number of armies as well as create strategies and execute attacks on the enemy resources.
