The following quote gives a direct look into the feelings many soldiers felt during the Viet-Nam war, "The pressures were enormous. They all carried ghosts. They carried their own lives,” (O’Brien 1997). This of course defines the reality of war and the fact that it is a heavy burden to carry for any soldier at any time in history.
This was a curious book. It did not offer a great deal of information on Conrad but what it did offer was idiosyncratic and interesting. The writing was of fine quality and it was perhaps for this reason that I came away with a good opinion of the book. But as far as an elaboration of the theme of my thesis it was a little lacking.

As a protest to the revivalist trends in religion, the transcendentalists looked for happiness in little things in life. During this period, the Native Americans, the original inhabitants of America, rose in revolt against the white colonizers. The Norton Anthology, Volume C, covered the latter half of this period between 1985-1914.
The characters evoke a world and situate the reader within their context by way of dialogues, letters, and monologues. Through the dialogues (which many times hide more than they reveal) the characters are linked with empirical reality: in their consciousness, they project tensions, conflicts, and memories of the real world.

The opposite of dystopia is a utopia which is a description of an imaginary ideal land. The term first evolved in the book of Thomas More in the year 1516. Utopia is a state where perfection in law, politics, and society is experienced. There are many works in literature where the theme of dystopia is very much intertwined with the plot of the novel.
Washington suggests that the US should avoid long-term military alliances with other nations, a principle which led him to issue the Proclamation of Neutrality during his Presidency as well as enacting the Neutrality Act of 1794. But the political realities of today are the opposite of neutrality.
To incorporate the autocratic party system in original life would be always disturbing. Every individual has the right and a space of his own. A similar kind of rule implemented holistically in society would be always disturbing. A similar fashion of life would also kill the diversity completely and this phenomenon is quite annoying.

The narrator is seen initially in the story as someone who is studying as if trying to forget unpleasant thoughts by burying his head in books and tales of forgotten times. He seemed to be a haunted man at the beginning of the poem, a man mourning the loss of his love, whom he never expected to see again.
The way the ‘natives’ organize themselves is what he likes best: the way they have no formal ways of documenting and none of the modern trappings of contracts and laws. He reasons that because of this they have fewer disagreements. He admires their wooden tools and lack of metal. He likes their temperate ways, which he describes in a Utopian way, and their arrangements of longhouses and hammocks.
Longfellow, one of the translators of Dante’s Divina Commedia, translated the word Contrapasso as Counterpoise (Dante, Longfellow and Pearl 2003), but perhaps Counter-Pace is a more accurate word made up by this student. It takes in the concept that when Dante’s characters reached Hell, they had to travel in a contrary direction to how they operated in life.

I also liked " How to Date a Brown girl, Blackgirl, Whitegirl, or Halfie" because it was funny. It was also sad because it pointed out the poverty that the narrator was in and how it affected him.
My initial reaction to "Girl" was, "What is the purpose of this story?" My first reaction to "The Story of an Hour" was that it was a beautiful story. I did not like "Girl" because it did not have anything interesting in it and it seemed more like someone's "to do" list. I could not relate to the main character because they had no substance.

Summing up, one can see that daydreaming about a prosperous life may not help one to attain the same. Instead, it may lead one to suffer more. The pathetic story of Mathilde Loisel and her husband proves this fact. I like to read fiction because it helps me to unleash my imagination. When I watch a drama the scope of imagination is limited because I am attending a live show.

Mrs. Joe’s treatment of Pip is rather nasty and cruel, for we do not see a single moment where she has talked to Pip with love and care, the things Pip wants the most. She feels that after their parent’s death she was forced to raise and take care of Pip against her will. Her motive, therefore, is to show that she cares the least for Pip and that she never wanted to take the burden of him.

Pirandello and the director want to challenge the viewer’s sense of self and make a point about madness- that if the product of creativity is mad, then we ourselves must be mad, too. A scene that specifically underlines this point stood out in my mind and continues to make light of the nuances of this famous work is the scene in the beginning, establishing the situation.

The paper observed is a near-future novel and grim in nature that displays the exaggerated trends in American life that were more prevalent during the closing quarter of the 1980s and early 90s. I came to the conclusion that the narrator of the story might be the people living around Emily, that is, the public. The timeline of the story is also a bit puzzling. The plot of the story has a strangeness.

In the novella, “Candide” Voltaire deals with a series of themes such as the ‘folly of Optimism’, ‘bitterness of stern reality, ‘futility of philosophical speculation’, ‘the corrupting effect of money, ‘hypocrisy of the religious system’, etc that are stitched together with the common thread that Leibniz’s optimistic philosophy simply failed to perceive the reality.
