According to Janet, literature is very important in student’s lives as it expands the nature of writing, reading, understanding and the enhancements of critical thinking. Reading and writing about literature creates joy and the culture of extensive reading about what goes on around man within the society. Most people engage in literature to get more information because of the exposure of many ideas including the familiarity to the implemented concepts. Literature also reflects the way people think and judge about the materials they read within the society. Literature has the ability to reflect the author’s emotions and thoughts pertaining to different opinions in the world. People generally read to enjoy the good stories and investigate how other individuals feel or understand the real life situations .It also exposed people to learn more about the past while comparing to the present status of life within the immediate environment. The main objective of this essay is to explicate various elements of literature and their importance within the society.

Generally, the purity of the children must be viewed with much respect and protected in order to make them free and active in the society. Children always have the specific views of becoming responsible adults by engaging in serious educational requirements. It is the great responsibility of parents and the adult within the society to motivate and education in the children to enable them to become responsible citizens. Childhood education elevates the level of maturity and exposure in various children in the society preparing them to be role models to the society and useful leaders (Gardner et al 65). The creations of a special category for children in the society require cultural products and practices forming the distinction between the children and the adults.

Orientalism

It is a kind of imitation or elaboration of characteristics of the Eastern cultures by the designers, artist, and writers. After the westerner’s realization of the reduced relationships of power and domination in the eastern countries, they form the Orientalism as a fictitious ideology to legitimize their political and cultural superiority. Western empires developed Orientalism techniques to represent and signify the political forces that lead to the development and initiation of the orient system to the western countries. Orientalism is the depiction or the distinction of what is alien, medieval or inferior within a specific social cycle. Orientalism was used in the diverse cultural and natural boundaries by the colonialists to organize regions by referring to them by common names. European colonialist would refer to various countries such as countries in East Asia, Southeast Asia and South Asia to refer to Korea, Japan and China respectively. Orientalism shows how the non-western cultures and traditions are viewed by the western scholars, politicians, thinkers, writers and the society in general.

Orientalism emerged in the 19th century when most scholars thought of the perfect knowledge about Asia and the idea of furthering their aspirations for their own political benefits. The ideology of the western that their culture was superior to others motivated them to regard others as inferior who needed their authority and guidance to develop their society. Prominent scholars such as Edward Said asserts that through Orientalism most influential scholars and ideas were influenced by the European ideologies and understandings that they could not fairly and cordially deal with Asian and Africans. Europeans used Orientalism to define their ideas and divided the world into portions for easy control while characterizing them as civilized and the uncivilized or the west and the east. They used Orientalism to justify their superiority by showing the real picture of colonialism and its outcome globally.

Colonialism and Imperialism

According to most literature authors, colonialism, and the imperialism often run concurrently and are interchangeably used in the society. The words might have two differently meaning but they are very challenging while described literary. The two words refer to political and economic capture and domination exercised by superior nations to the less superior ones. Some nations globally prove to be very superior and manipulative to others making them conquer and have control over their activities and the governing structure. Colonialism is the process by which countries exercise power over the other while imperialism is the technique of exertion of political and economic influence to the controlled nations. Imperialism is termed as a factor motivating the act of colonialism since in lead to the expansion of the areas of jurisdiction for the colonialist providing them with more power and influence. Colonialism enabled some superior first world countries to conquer and rule over other nations in the world history leading to exploitation of resources and the benefits to the conquerors (colonists).After the colonialists gathered courage by capturing various regions they would extend their areas of operation to gain more resources and power promoting imperialism.

Imperialism was the safest way of creating greater empires by extending their influence to the neighboring countries within their areas of operations. Colonialism would mean the creation and maintenance of colonies within a territory by individuals from another territory changing the system of the occupied region economically, socially, and spiritually and physically. Examples of colonialism are the European influence and settlement in countries such as Australia, Brazil, Algeria and India where the colonialist ruled over the lands while settling within the regions. Imperialism described the control of the colonialists to other areas without the real settlement of the colonialists’ within the regions such as the American influence to Philippines and Puerto Rico (Kipling, Rudyard, and Robson 45).

Postcolonial

Postcolonial refers to a period after the end of colonialism globally. In early 1960, many countries that were colonized got their independence and formed their own governments. The issue destroyed the system of colonial control and the empires leading to much freedom and responsibility to the colonized nations. Post-colonial termed includes all the impacts and the culture imparted by the process of imperialism since the colonialism era until today. The imperial aggression is still felt today as it is a continuation of the historical preoccupations. Literally, postcolonial backgrounds and history have been influenced by the imperial process since the colonization time until the present times. The influence of the post-colonization is experienced through various means within the society such as the performance of drama, poetry and following the domains of the novel written by the colonialists. Post-colonial literature significantly elaborates the importance and the validity of indigenous cultures for the restoration of the individuals lost pride in various practices and traditions that were chronologically degraded during colonial the time.

The post-colonial theory and domain incorporate writing and reading of the previous literature of the colonized countries or the articulations of the colonizing countries including the colonized people. Post colonialism concentrates specifically on the methods by which colonizing culture literature spoils the experiences and the realities inferiority of the colonized people. According to the ancient westerner’s literature, the colonizers extensively settled in the countries with diverse culture and heritages enabling them to adapt the use of the myths and symbols defining various traditions. Postcolonial is very important since it exposes the colonized countries to expand their thoughts and scope about the development strategies and freedom in the society. Post colonialism would show and explain the differences between the colonizers and the colonist providing exposures to various cultures and lifestyles.

The enlightenment emerges as the well-modeled child grows up to be a mature responsible leader to represent the society.
