It was a pleasant Saturday mid-night, in the second week of April, and spring season had started with all its allures by saying goodbye to the cold days of winter that had turned life into somewhat ice age for the last five months. The captivating setting of the deluxe hotel had captured the entire atmosphere under its bewitching sway. There was peace and tranquility everywhere in the environment with two young lovers looking into the eyes of each other, and assuring an eternal and unflinching love to each other for the future years to come. There could be seen unfulfilled dreams in the eyes of both the lovers, along with the thirst of achieving all that they looked dreaming with the awakening eyes. The exchange of smiles and sweet words had created a romantic environment, though no one could assess the real and invisible feelings prevailing in the depths of hearts. One of these lovers was called Brian, a twenty seven years old man with medium height, stout physique, stiff facial expressions, narrow eyes, flat nose, straight hair and mixed complexion attributed to the biracial children of the parents from two diverse ethno-racial backgrounds; while the second lover was Kathleen, a twenty six years old graceful woman having tall height, delicate physique, bob-cut curled auburn hair swaying on her shoulders, comely facial features, tender lips, broad eyes and fair complexion, making her to be the embodiment of attractiveness and refinement, and proving her as the descendant of white Anglo Saxon Protestants (WASP). “Please swear you would always love me sweetheart”, exclaimed Brian in deep voice by playing with one of her restless curls falling on her broad forehead. “No, I would not love you forever”, Kathleen replied in some serious tone. “O come on darling, don’t be silly… I’d not tolerate such nonsense comments from your mouth even remarked as a stupid joke”, he replied adding more purity of love to his words and tone. “Oh my love, why are you so afraid of it? I’m just cutting jokes; It’s only fun my dear”, she maintained. “Please don’t spoil these precious moments of glaring night I intend to spend under your thick eyelids, where I have declared the moon as the eye-witness of my love for you”, Brian looked more romantic and attempting to ignore the words delivered by Kathleen. “Oh really? If you declare this moon to be the witness from your side, I have a bigger and stronger witness on my part, and that’s no other than the Reddening Phoebus i.e. sun, which would endorse the purity of my heart and truth of this mind for you my love” she turned out to be more romantic and tender towards her lover. “I want to take you in my arms, and am eager to cover you in my eyes and heart, so that no other person could have a slightest look at you…., you are created for me and me only my sweetheart” Brian looked intoxicated and drown deep into the captivating beauty Kathleen contained. It is therefore he had invited her at dinner at this luxury hotel. “OK my darling, let me go know, as it is 11:30 pm by now.” Kathleen sought her permission for departure. “Oh no, no my dear, let me see you more, to quench the thirst of my eyes that are mad after you” Brian pleaded. Kathleen blushed with shame, and threw her bewitching eyelids. There remained some silence for few moments. “OK, let me kiss your hands before departure, but promise me you would meet me soon”, Brian broke the ice at last, held her hand, and kissed it for long. They said goodbye to each other and departed with the promise of having get together again within two days. Kathleen looked excited and happy with the feelings of having a lover that appeared to be in love with her overhead and ears. While travelling in the public automobile, the past events started flashing before her eyes and Kathleen found herself in her college as a young student. Since she was an imaginative soul by nature, the girl had opted English Literature as her major subject for the graduate program. Brian also studied at the same college and was one year senior to her in the graduate program. Although she had never been a close friend of Brian, however both the two used to sit together in study-room, library and the college canteen now and then. Consequently, they could rightly be viewed to be good acquaintances during their college years. Since Kathleen’s father had passed away in her childhood, and her financial condition could not be stated to be satisfactory one, the girl did not have any choice other than searching for job to meet both her ends meet, and for keeping the wolf from the door. Somehow, the girl did not have to search for job for long, as she was appointed as O levels teacher at the nearby school, where she was to deliver lectures to the classes of literature. Being a poetess herself and the lover of William Blake, Jane Austen, John Keats, Emily Bronte, Tennyson and others, she had learnt hundreds of verses by heart. As a result, her students looked extremely happy and satisfied with this dedicated and brilliant young teacher. Despite the fact that her job had earned respect and fame for her; nevertheless, it was not very lucrative one with regards to offering pecuniary gains. As a result, the salary she obtained could hardly fulfill her domestic needs, and she barely escaped from borrowing money from others by the end of every month. On the one side, the innocent Kathleen was leading a very uncomfortable life under unfavorable circumstances, and on the other side Nature looked beneficent to this poor but hardworking sweet lady. One day when she was sitting in her school library after taking her class, she was called by the principal through the peon in the office, and handed over a letter from a solicitor asking her to have an urgent meeting with him, as he had to disclose some very important information to her. Disturbed and confused, she proceeded to the solicitor’s office the same evening, where she came to know that her distant uncle had passed away few days before, and as per the statutes of the prevailing law, Kathleen would be the only legal heir to the large estate and huge funds left for her by that distant uncle. The legal procedures were executed successfully within one month with the help of the experienced solicitor, and the huge finances and ownership powers related to the inherited real estate were transferred to Kathleen through legal mutation process. Now Kathleen purchased a beautiful flat in a posh residential area of the city, and arranged a big party in honor of her ex classmates, friends and school colleagues. Kathleen did not forget to invite Brian at this auspicious occasion of her life, though she was not aware of the fact that inviting Brian would be turning point of her tranquil life. Almost all the friends were present in the flat, though Brian had not joined them. Somehow, he arrived in the party in late hours at the moment when almost all the guests had departed, and the rest of them were also exiting by admiring the party arrangements as well as wishing the beautiful host the best of fortune for the future days to come. Since Brain was very late, only few of the guests could see and recognize their ex classmate. However, as the hub-bub and uproar changed into peace and silence, Brian managed to go forward and present bouquet to Kathleen by bowing his head before her and paying his sincere greetings to her in a highly conventional manner. “O Brian, I should pay my thanks to you for your calling at me, though you really missed all the fun and thrill the guests enjoyed during the party” Kathleen remarked on receiving the bouquet from his hands. “The main thing was seeing you and wishing you best of luck, which is accomplished to some extent my ma’am; otherwise, I seldom attend the gatherings, you see” Brian replied in a modest tone. “I must be grateful to you for honoring me dear Brian, and the fragrance of these flowers really mean a lot to me, you see” Kathleen stated. “Wouldn’t you allow me to step in and look into the beautiful flat you have recently purchased my ma’am”? “Oh sorry, I forgot it….; please come in, and let me show you all…” Kathy hesitantly replied. “Hmmm, all….” Brian said and laughed, and Kathy also smiled by ignoring the irony hidden in the deep meanings associated with the words. On entering the flat, Kathleen noticed that Brian was more interested in her and the words she was delivering, and had little concern with the flat. “Would you like to have coffee my dear”? Kathleen asked. “I’ve just come to see you, and to recall the sweet memories attributed to our college days; so please sit with me for some moments to discuss those golden days of our life, and I have no need of anything, I’ve taken all before my arrival at here” Brian made his statement to be very pure. “O I mean you remember those days” Kathleen said and laughed a lot. “Oh sorry, I didn’t mean this”, she turned serious. “You look very pretty while laughing dear Kathy, and your smiles bring joys to the listeners; when you were laughing, it seemed as hundreds of melodious bells are ringing simultaneously in some nearby church: Brian peeped into her cute eyes. She blushed and bent her head. “You are such a good speaker, so why you escape the parties; such words deserve to be listened to by everybody” Kathleen praised his aesthetic sense. “But I am not interested in generalizing my thoughts and words” he became serious. There was a little silence, and Brain again broke the ice. “Do you remember my Kathy the break hours we used to spend at college canteen? They were extremely gorgeous, without exaggeration my dear” Brian commented. “Yes, I also miss those pageant days of life that were full of colors, and practical life appears to be drab, dull and dismal in comparison to those days” replied Kathleen. Brian lifted his eyes, looked deep into her face and commented: “colors could be filled in life provided the same friends belonging to magnificent days of student life are present beside you again.” “May be”, Kathleen had a sigh. After some minutes Brian sought her permission and departed with the promise of continuing their friendship in future. Two days after the party had been arranged, Kathleen received Brian’s message depicting his mental condition after his meeting with her on the party day, where he had sought support from the poetic expressions and romantic verses in order to capture the heart of this damsel into his fist. He had invited him at dinner at a luxurious hotel of the town. Being an innocent and sweet girl at heart, Kathleen took it just an expression of old friendship as well as a simple gesture of goodwill; so she happily promised to see Brian on Friday night. Kathleen selected light pink dresses to be worn for dinner; the matching lipstick and jewelry including earrings, necklace and bracelets had turned her to be more attractive and fascinating. At last she reached the restaurant had been determined for the dinner. Brian was dazzled to see the extreme beauty as her guest, and welcomed her with open arms. He was thinking that he had just desired for the riches she possessed, but if he succeeds in winning her heart, he could also be lucky to have one of the prettiest girls of the town to be her lover and sweetheart. By keeping all these thoughts in mind, he kissed her hand and offered her the protocol generally attributed to the individuals belonging to the highest ranks in social hierarchy. “What’s your zodiac sign dear Brian”? Kathleen asked. I’m Leo”, he replied. “Oh sweet, fire sign, that’s great, for I’m Sagittarian.” She exclaimed with joy. “Well, Leo and Sagittarius make a wonderful companionship, you see” Brian also looked excited. “Yeah, so what do you like in food dear Brian”? She questioned again. “I love fish and chicken, and also Chinese food” Brian answered. “And you? “Oh I really love Chinese foods dear Brian, and also like fish and beef.” Kathleen replied. “Do you know Brian that I love long drive a lot, and objects of nature fascinate me to a great extent” One day Kathleen informed Brian on their meeting, to which he took keen interest. “And fast techno music increases my excitement, you see.” “That’s great, I also love the same; it means we could have a good chemistry that may go a long way” Brian maintained and further stated: “So I would take you to woods some day, where there could be fun and joy, and two lovers and loneliness….” He admired her beauty, delicate countenance, estimable mannerism and bewitching smiles. Such a bold expression of her prettiness served as a new experience for the innocent Kathleen, which looked under obligation to Brian for applying his splendid aesthetic sense in such an artistic style. As a result, Kathleen agreed to accompany Brian to watch cinema the next night. Brian had reserved a box in the cinema, and had also brought fast food and cold drinks with him so that he could be able to please Kathleen at any cost. The tactless and innocent girl looked impressed by the generosity demonstrated by the shrewd lover. Brian turned out to be successful in holding her hand during the movie. “What tender hands you are blessed with; I don’t want to leave these pretty hands in my life” he ascertained. On this she blushingly replied “Oh, it’s just your thought dear Brian; otherwise, it is not the case, as I’m just an ordinary girl.” “No, you can’t imagine the beauties you possess, only males would assess the charms associated with you from top to toe” he whispered in a romantic tone. “How do you say I’m beautiful from top to toe?” she dizzily questioned. At this, the shrewd Brian judged that the girl was under the influence of his magical words, and would be ready to step forward towards him. “Let me look into all so that I could explore all the charms of this enticing body.” Brian looked sensual. It was too much for a girl that had never heard such seducing statements in her life before. She blushingly bowed her head and Brian placed it on his shoulder…. The two kept on arranging meetings, where they watched cinema, had candle-light dinners and exchanged romantic words. These were the days when Brian took him in his warm fold, and the girl first time got involved into a short French kiss, which created some unspeakable emotions in her heart. It was the time when the sociopath Brian decided to give practical shape to his plan of capturing Kathleen’s wealth. “My dear Kathy”, during the dinner one night he had a glimpse at the girl. “Yes my love” she lifted her sparkling eyelids. Brian made his tone serious and friendly and said: “Please let me know whether you have drawn some schemes for a brighter future? I mean would you keep on spending all your life as a teacher at a small school?” Kathleen nodded her head in negative and said: “No, I intend to invest some amount in hotel business, and I have also talked about all with Luke, and we could embark upon launching a fast food restaurant soon.” Some wrinkles appeared at Brain’s forehead, and he unsuccessfully attempted to hide his unpleasantness from her eyes. “So you didn’t bother to share it with your lover...…” he deliberately left the sentence incomplete. “What do you mean by this?” Kathleen didn’t like his words. “Actually I want to ask you to have investment in real estate business, which could flourish very fast, far faster than the restaurant business and could produce higher amount of money” Brian showed him new path. “OK, let me discuss it with Luke, hope he would have an idea about the same” Kathleen replied. At this, Brian looked uncomfortable, and maintained: “Perhaps you have not developed any trust in me; otherwise you would not remark about including any other person in our life…. If you please allow me one million dollars, I would purchase property in business point of view.” “Oh Brian come on; why are you angry with me on such a trivial issue? We could discuss it at some other time; now just be normal, have dinner, and leave everything for future my dear” Kathleen attempted to normalize the situation. Apparently, Brian tried to be normal, though it was not possible for him to overcome his inner situation. After few days, Brian again invited her to watch cinema. It was the first time Kathleen decided to inquire about his personal and domestic life. So she asked him to let her know regarding her family and friends. “I don’t have too many friends like you, as it’s only wastage of time to have so many friends….” Brian exclaimed. “But friends are very precious for our life” she argued. “No, I don’t like it, and even don’t like your meeting with so many people; most of your so-called friends are just greedy chaps, and have their eyes on your money and physical charms only. They appear to be exploiting your physical charms and grab your finances only. So I advise you not to meet these fair weather opportunists.” He made a long statement. There remained some silence; since she was in love with him, so she thought it better to change the topic rather than keep on arguing. “You didn’t inform my anything about your family dear Brian”, she stated after some silence. “Oh yes, I have a half-sister, and she works at a doctor’s clinic, you see” he replied. “So please invite her too at dinner, so that we could know more about each other and family members of one another as well” Kathleen smiled. One more week passed, and Brian requested her to meet him the same evening. Kathleen reminded him of calling his sister as well; to this, he promised though it took two months in getting her introduced with his acclaimed half-sister. The purported half-sister looked a bit strange, and could not be viewed to be belonging to some noble family altogether. To Kathleen’s surprise, she knew almost nothing regarding the likes and dislikes had been mentioned by Brian in their initial dating. Moreover, so-called sister expressed her affectations for Brian, which looked absolutely artificial ones. Both the sister and Brian insisted Kathleen to enter into marital-knot with Brian without making any delays. Later, Brian requested Kathleen to go to the hotel lobby where he demanded $ 1000 for his sister, and asked him to keep it secret. It was the first time that Kathleen had noticed some signs of Brian’s avaricious nature; the body language of his purported sister was weird one, and she did not resemble with her brother in any manner. The next evening, Brian called Kathleen over phone and made demand for an early investment in real estate in Brian’s name. Such an awkward behavior endorsed her suspicion that he wanted his share in the form of financial support against his purported love for her. She felt so hurt that she could not sleep the entire night in a proper way. Her pillow got wet with the tears flowing from her beautiful eyes; and she came to know about the deceits people experience at the hands of fake lovers. She kept on analyzing the entire state of affairs till she reached the conclusion that Brian had his eyes on her wealth only. The next morning, she dialed Luke’s number and asked him to meet him in the earliest. Luke was running a consultancy, and was leading a prosperous life. He had arranged a business meeting with a party that morning; however, after receiving Kathleen’s phone-call, and analyzing that she was in need of his support, Luke postponed his appointments for few hours and rushed towards Kathleen’s apartment in the early hours of the day. As soon as Luke entered her flat, Kathleen embraced her and started crying like children. Luke consoled her through words and kissed her head, and asked her to let him know what had happened with her. Somehow, Kathleen was still in sobs; so he left her alone for some moments, and went to the kitchen to prepare coffee for both the two. He remained in kitchen for twenty minutes and appeared before her with one glass of water and two mugs of fresh coffee. The girl drank water, and got somewhat normal. At this, she started narrating all about her friendship and dating with Brian, and his intentions of grabbing money from her. During the discussion, the two also explored that Brian had started his so-called friendship affair with her in the wake of her obtaining huge financial assets and estate in inheritance. Luke decided to hire the services of a private detector to unveil Brian’s plans. Since Brian seldom had meetings with anyone, and spent most of his time either while staying at home or visiting the bars during late nights. The detector got an opportunity of entering his place in his absence, where he got his personal diary explicitly exhibiting his plans of grabbing $ ten million from Kathleen, after which he would leave the girl for good without inflicting any harm to her; and he would start his personal business in some other state subsequently. The detector managed to have photocopy of the diary, and placed it again at Brian’s flat. Luke analyzed the situation in different aspects, took the detector with him and reached at Kathleen’s apartment. Kathleen was startled to know about Brian’s real nature. It was decided that Brian would be caught red-handed. The next morning, Kathleen ranged at Brian’s mobile-phone, and skillfully showed her partial inclinations with regards to offering money to him for the investment in real estate. Both of them decided that Kathleen would hand over the check to Brian the same night at his place. As had been planned, Kathleen engaged him in love-making till he demanded for the check and Kathleen burst into rage, and Luke entered the lawn accompanied by Stephen and the two policemen. Brian was brought in the court of law, where he admitted that he was not an offender altogether, nor did he intend to commit any crime on Kathleen. He pleaded that being a jobless youth he just wanted to borrow some money from her to launch his business; and as soon as the venture became a success, he would return the entire amount to Kathleen. However, during the cross-examination he made confession that he did not have any feelings of love for the girl. The court ordered the law enforcing agency personnel to shift him to some rehabilitation center, where the reasons and magnitude of his psychological problems could be examined, in the light of which he would be sentenced or be offered the medical treatment. The team of psychiatrists and counselors reported to the court that Brian had been proved to be a sociopath and carried almost all the signs attributed to the individuals undergoing this type of mental disorder. Identical with all other sociopaths belonging to DSM-IV-TR, Brian appeared to be very touchy, intelligent and imaginative person. He actually avoided the other members of society because of the long spell of his joblessness, where his finances had been ruined eventually. Like other sociopaths of this type, Brian attempted to discover a short-cut way to become rich in a jiffy, and he targeted Kathleen for the same purpose. The report admitted that Brian did not want to inflict any harm on Kathleen altogether. Moreover, he was in need of employment and finances rather than any sentence to be announced against him. The court issued orders to the authorities to allocate Brian against some job as soon as he recovered from the mental disorder, so that his life and career could be saved from an absolute ruination. While elaborating DSM-IV-TR, Schacter et al. are of the view that such type of mental disorder may produce the emotions of alienation and hatred in the patients against their society. There are several reasons behind such behavior are generally deprivation or some mishap occurred in past in his life, which may create feelings of abhorrence in his mind for others (381-2). Under such a drastic situation, the individual undergoing the DSM-IV-TR problem isolates himself from the outer world and plans to overcome his deprivation by hook or by crook. The DSM-IV-TR patient could even get indulged into criminal behavior with the aim of targeting the state and society out of sheer feelings of revenge for the injustices the society has exercised on him. Such type of person apparently look cool and calm, though even the slightest incident occurred against his desire could infuriate him.
