I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud” is a beautiful poem written by William Wordsworth that provides an insight into the beauty of nature. The poem explains the experience of the poet when he was alone and wandering in a peaceful place and he noticed a large number of daffodils that were planted besides the lake. The poet expresses his happiness and joy at the vision of the daffodils and he tries to express the beauty of the sight of these flowers in his poem. The poem revolves around the theme of the magnificence of nature and explains the contentment that a person may achieve by visualizing this beauty of his natural surroundings.

Wordsworth has expressed the fact that an individual should pay heed to the gifts of nature that exist in his surroundings. He has perfectly explained the reader about the intricacies of the vision that he saw of the daffodils. He has compared the daffodils to the waves of the lake along which the daffodils were present. He has explained that the charm and the beauty of the daffodils clearly overshadowed and overexpressed the moving waves of the lake. This is explained when he says, “The waves beside them danced; but they /Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:” The daffodils are used as a symbol by the poet to express the natural beauty that exists around us in this world.

He has also compared the daffodils with stars and expressed that they were as bright as the stars in the sky. The happiness of Wordsworth at this sight expresses the theme that visions of nature can be mesmerizing and can serve to sooth the soul of an individual and make him realize the goodness that exists in the world. The poet was alone and when he saw the daffodils, he considered the daffodils as a part of his company. He presented his happiness by saying, “A poet could not but be gay/ In such a jocund company:” These lines explain that the daffodils provide happiness to the poet and they explain that an individual can attain pleasure by visualizing such things.

The poem explains that beautiful things that a person comes across stay with him forever and serve to provide as happy memories for an individual. He explains that even when a person is sad or unhappy and he remembers these beautiful memories, they tend to bring joy to the individual. This is explained in the last stanza of the poem when Wordsworth expresses the fact that whenever he is gloomy and the memory of the daffodils returns to his mind, he forgets his sorrow and feels happy and living again.

William Wordsworth has explained the natural beauty that exists in our surroundings in the poem, “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud”. He has presented that Mother Nature has given countless beautiful gifts to human beings in various forms. He has utilized the daffodils as a symbol to explain this beauty. The poem also expresses the theme of the satisfaction that human beings can achieve by understanding and seeing the natural beauty in their surrounds.Works CitedWordsworth, William. The Daffodils.
