As the discussion highlights that in the ‘A clean Well-Lighted Place’ by Ernest Hemmingway, the old deaf man does not want to get home early. He feels good being close to the waiters of the hotel. In addition to that, the older waiter feels good about being in that well lit place (Anthony, 202, pg.45). He sees the light as a good addition to his life that makes him have a communion with others. The narrator says, ‘’it was a nothing that he knew too well.  It was all a nothing and a man was nothing too.

It was only that and light was all it needed and a certain cleanness and order. ‘’This study stresses that in the story ‘’Cathedral’’ by Raymond Carver, the narrator meets with the blind man from seattle, and that makes him have a different approach to life. With his own imagination and the act of drawing, he attains personal communion (Howe, 2015, pg. 24).  The narrator is able to withdraw himself from the isolation of not understanding his wife’s poetry, using his own creativity.

The narrator alludes, Then he said, "I think that's it.  I think you got it. Take a look.  What do you think?" The two stories also use the same stylistic devices to approach their subjects. Carver and Hemmingway effectively employ the bare minimum style in their stories. This is evident in the scenes, actions and dialogue among the characters. In both stories, the work comprises mainly of short sentences and dialogue that lacks emotion sense.
