Your full full June 10, "Io vamo sol perche" Torquato Tasso “Io vamo sol perche” is a great poem written by Torquato Tasso. The main idea of the poem is that a person’s desire for love does not end regardless of the current or past status of that person. The desire of being loved remains alive in the heart of a person even when the circumstances are not favorable. This poem has been written in the same context as it reveals the wishes of a person who is feeling bad of his current circumstances.
He wants to be loved by a girl he admires but knows that the girl will not accept him as her loved one. That is the reason he seems like saying that he does not expect anything from the girl in return of what he feels for the girl inside his heart. He is just hoping a little more sadness, misery, pain, and sorrow from the girl he admires. He seems like being ready to anything for the girl but is not expecting anything favorable in return.Expression of the feelings of sorrow, sadness, and misery in all three parts of the poem supports the main idea of the poem.
The author has portrayed himself as a person who has faced many hardships and poor behaviors in life because of which he has adjusted himself in the lowest rank of expectations. He does not seem to be a person expecting love in return of what he feels for the person he admires. He is already ready to face rejection even before expressing his love. That is the reason the author has used words of sorrow and sadness in return of his burning sighs for his loved one. This happens naturally for a person who faces rejection and harsh social behaviors from the outside world.
The line written by the author in the first part of the poem, “not that I hope for anything from you” (“Io vamo sol perche” 3), clearly shows that the author is expecting nothing in return of his love because his circumstances has molded his thoughts and expectations to the lowest end of his hope.A secondary literature about this poem stands a girl responsible for this position of Torquato Tasso, the author of the poem. “It was probably some girls fault” (Towler). This statement shows that a girl might have broken the heart of Tasso somewhere in the past, which has become the reason for him to lose all hope for love.
I agree with this point because when a person faces a bad experience in the past, it does affect his/her future behaviors. For example, if a person gets cheated by his/her best friend in some matter of life, perceptions change for that person which stop him/her from trusting new people and making new relationships. This might be the reason for Tasso to feel low and expect rejection even before expressing love to his loved one. Summing it up, the poem has been written using simple words and perfectly reveals the feelings of a disheartened person.
