ization, humans have come to develop characteristics which have proven to be undesirable such as seeking to push the boundaries between humanity and science in order to increase their knowledge. The thirst for knowledge and the manner through which it can be wielded can be considered a problem because it fails to show a focus towards what is important in life, namely humanity, and instead gives more importance to the manner through which individuals can be used for the purpose of experiments. One would suggest that the diagram above is a means to show that human beings, despite being scientifically advanced, especially in the areas of medicine and psychology, tend to feel a need to ensure that they continue to find out the secrets of nature.
The result of this curiosity is that they end up conducting experiments on one another to satisfy their desires; leading to a situation where it is difficult to ensure the safety of the entire human population. Conducting experiments on one another, as seen in the diagram where there is a physician, patient, and observer, shows that in the quest for knowledge, human beings are increasingly turning towards creating social experiments that have the potential of being destructive for the individuals involved and this is done while the rest of society remain spectators.
This situation can be related to Buck-Morss’ assertion that aesthetic frameworks are politically enfranchising while anesthetic frameworks go the opposite way; essentially alienating the individuals involved politically (Buck-Morss 35). The political alienation that individuals all over the world experience might be considered a means through which it is possible for human beings to observe their destruction calmly. It allows humans to forget the realities surrounding them and instead makes them focus on unimportant aspects of life at the expense of more important ones.
This scenario can also be related to that of Foucault’s panopticon where individuals gain
