Discussion Question 2: Literature al Affiliation Love is one of the most emotive s and the most commonly used themesin literature. This understanding of love is especially important in the analysis of the literary work by Andreas Capellanus de Adores (Andreas, 1959). This is an amazing work that has been of great significance in societies and cultures for centuries. In the De Adores we find the basis of the rules of courtly love. This is a compilation of thirty-one rules by Capellanus these rules are of great significance in the understanding a relationship of persons who are in love.

In my opinion, the rules of courtly love are indeed of the essence. They define a relationship of a couple and though love is widely considered a mystery, it sheds light on the basics on how to understand love and the common traits associated with it.The rules of courtly love remain relevant to understanding the love set up in marriage and dating lifestyles of people today. Granted, most people do not adhere to all these rules or some are not privy to them, but, what makes this rules important is the fact that they are universal.

The concepts surrounding love have not changed since the writing of courtly love (Andreas, 1959). It is then clear that although the context might have changed the basic principles of love still hold true now as they did during the time of Andreas Capellanus.A comparison between the rules of the courtly love and Platos Symposium reveal a high contrast. In Plato’s Symposium love is seen to be more defined in a philosophical sense as compared to Capellanus this is because of the circumstances that precede the two works and the contexts in which love is used.

Whereas in De Adores love is mutual between man and woman and the relationship they have, in the symposium love is bigger than that, making reference to the social set ups and even the gods.ReferenceAndreas,. (1959). The art of courtly love. New York: F. Ungar Pub. Co.
