According to Chasteen (2001), Gomara was a historian who wrote on the expedition of Cortes without even being to America. His work was, therefore, inaccurate as it was based on the views and description of Cortes who tended to aggrandize his role. La Vega portrays the Inca as a happy place. According to him, it had as good rulers who and everybody was well-fed and happy before the Spanish came. He accurately describes the political system of tribute and labor enforced by the Incas from the subsidiary tribes in their empire.

He, however, fails to discuss the human sacrifices now known to have been part of Inca practice. Poma writes from the perspective of the indigenous people. He writes of Peru from the Pre-Hispanic times through the period of the Viceroyalty (Chasteen, 2001). He believes the values that existed initially were eroded by Christianity and the new laws. Koster described slavery in Brazil. He talks about the way the blacks who he calls Negros are not allowed to mingle with the neighbors and have to creep at night in order to make plans.

Unlike the Indians, they do not request to dance as their instruments are considered crude. This story revolves around the problems faced by the inhabitants such as insecurity and ill distribution of wealth. This prompted liberal reactions among residents. For example, Landowner began exporting goods, and urban dwellers got involved in public works (Chasteen, 2001). With industrialization in Europe, Latin markets increased and attracted people more investments. Transport and communication evolved to the steam engine and use of steel.

Furthermore, Mexico passed liberal reforms that separated the Church from politics. However, women were barred from education and writing, and wars erupted.
