Victorian Literature Introduction The Victorian literature was marked by the Victorian era when Queen Victoria was ruling from 1837 to 1901. The poetry that was written during this era was thus called the Victorian poetry (literature). This paper aims at analyzing this era in the poetic context and also in the faith, religion, and contemporary sources of the period.The Mid-Victorian FaitDuring the mid-Victorian era, poetry addressed the then issues like religious faith, sexuality, racial reforms, and social reforms that often lead to series of devastating debate (Cronin & Harrison, 2008).

More importantly, the poets at the time like Alfred Lord Tennyson, Mathew Arnold, and Robert Browning, devised experiments that raised the chances of the genre, by creating the innovative types and forms of literature that empowered poetic voices to emerge.The mid-Victorian poetic era is divided into two according to their contemporary sources. Religion (Christian faith), especially Protestantism, was the main cause of antagonism. As argued by Timpane & Watts (2001), Queen Victoria’s era created the empire to revolve around poetic ideas and realm.

Alfred Lord Tennyson was one of the poets who use this to spread the themes that affected the then society. From poetic innovation and discoveries, Robert Browning discovered the idea of dramatic monologue which was used also by Alfred Lord Tennyson and Mathew Arnold.The main focus of the Victorian poetry is about love and worship of God as opposed to love and worship of nature which was an attribute of Romanism. The Romantics loved nature and adored nature as god. Almost all the Victorian poets did not use the literal art of love and worship for nature (Cronin & Harrison, 2008).

ConclusionIn relations to Victorian poems, the driving factor and the descriptive focus of the poetry meandered on love and worship for God, where nature was understood to be part of God, created by Him, and representation of God.
