Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert - Book Report/Review Example

General nutrition is something that is often mentioned in the book. From the very start, when Liz hooks up with the commune style living David, we already hear the words “vegetarian” and “triglycerides” within minutes of each other. However, the book goes far deeper than the superficial look that it gives at the way that nutrition affects the life of people. The main lesson that the book teaches the reader about in the “Eat” portion is that eating is more than just satisfying the hunger pangs one has in his stomach.

Eating is something that we do when we are searching for answers to our questions. It is one of the simplest ways to get an answer out of life and is the best way to get a ready smile from people. Serving a properly balanced and well thought out meal often results in the balancing of the immediate physical needs of a person. The main purpose of the “Eat” chapter of the book is to educate people about the need to properly indulge themselves when eating in order to maintain a healthy relationship with food.

By allowing people the freedom to enjoy their food, the “feel-good” factor that comes with the food consumption rises and presents itself in the attitude and overall appearance of the person. In a world where famine and hunger rule parts of the world, it is important that we give food its proper due as an integral part of life sustenance. This is made very clear in the book as the author asks the readers what they would do about the hunger being experienced in the world. Ms. Gilbert's answer was quite simple, she would enjoy her food and learn to get over the stereotypes that the fashion magazines, movies, and television shows peddle as the normal body type for women.

By feeding her body, Ms. Gilberts showed the readers that it would indeed be possible to feed the mind and soul of the general population as well. All that needed to be done was to embrace the act of indulging as something that could benefit the general population when it came to matters concerning the consumption of food.
