Children Need to Play, Not Compete In “Children Need to Play, Not Compete” Jessica Statsky displayed her deep emotions towards a then prevailing issue, in writing. The masterpiece of writing reveals more and more about children’s competitive sports for and in her course of composition. Prior research revealed that over the past couple of decades, organized sports, specifically for the children, had increased in the United States.All the people, mostly parents and young kids concerned, received this with dire joy.

It created room and an opportunity for growing children to develop in fitness as well as nurture young talent. However, shortcomings displayed a different perspective of the whole issue. The entire project was subject to misfortunes, as the innocent sport gradually turned to a target for those of high social status. This was evident where some parents, as well as coaches imposed harsh and unfair adult standards on the children sport. As a result, the entire operation ends up providing what is neither satisfying, nor of benefit to the children who fall victim (Kohn 276).

Competitive sport does not only expose children to physical hazards, but is now seen to be disappearing slowly. Sport gradually becoming commercial and job-like. Children participating in sport with the motive of absolute winning is just not right, the author states (Kohn 279). The goal of a child participating in this should be having fun, learning and spending quality time with friends (Kohn 288). It does however not mean that winning is not part of the fun, because it actually is. The issue however is that, parents, as well as supportive adults should not lose sight of what actually matters more, to the benefit of all.
