Analysis Part one Education is practically anything that we want it to be. This can be formal or informal schooling through what we learn from our teachers in school and parent or friends back at home.Despite the fact that people have learned a great deal of things through formal schooling, people seem treasure the experiences that are learned in life.Education is like one culture that embraces another. “Learning in the key of life” is an essay by Jon Spayde that explores the various definitions and views people have with regards to education.

She claims that education is made up of life experiences. There is a need to find a balance between self education and academic education. School education does not prepare us for the world but, self education. People may choose to be educated in various universities but life always brings us the learning experiences In her essay, Spayde sums up many of the beliefs that people. She feels that is is right for someone to have a well balanced education and necessary to obtain knowledge from formal schooling in addition to self education (Newman 28).

She refers to education as training for competition. Spayde talks about slow knowledge and fast knowledge as things that we can relate generally in life. Fast knowledge is something we can acquire from schools but slow knowledge we pick up as we go. This can be obtained facts about a culture, genres and this cannot be taught in one lesson. Spayde claims that schools help but it can only be regarded as the inception of engagement between reality and ideas. Part two : mission statementsThe two mission statements that can fit with Spayde assumption are Research and discovery and outreach and public services.

While the other mission statement that least agrees with Spayde’s assumption is teaching and learning.Research and discovery deals with the ability of a student to understand his duty or assignment and be able to conduct high quality research. Artistic activity is something that a person teaches himself despite the fact he might he might get some help from the school. This kind of self education will help students to benefit across the state, the nation and the world. This is a mission statement that best fits the assumption by Spayde that school education is not a major contributor towards success in life but self education (Denton 56).

Outreach and public services is another mission statement that best fits Spayde’s theory. It advocates for students to extend, apply the knowledge they have to other universities and the society. They can apply the scholarly expertise to solve community problems by helping organizations and individuals to deal with environmental changes. This can only be achieved by self education and you will have to have background information to help citizens of the state and the world.Teaching and learning is the mission statement that least agrees with Spayde’s assumption.

This is more applicable in a school setting where people share knowledge and a broad range educational programs. It adheres to students who want to further their skills in education such as teachers, lecturer, professors. This does not relate to Spayde theory that self education is much more important than academic education. Part three Spayde’s response to Bonnie Susteins’s question would be that an idea is a formed thought in the subconscious. One of the most important conversations about the history of education is the key to life which Is also known as self education.

A student should know the difference between learning in schools and learning out of schools. A student is able to show that he is learning through linking new ideas and prior knowledge (Troxel 69). Receiving education through informal setting is just as imperative as that in the informal setting. If a person is able to combine the two then he can have a more productive learning experience. Education is limitless. Work citedDenton, Diana, and Will Ashton. Spirituality, Action, & Pedagogy: Teaching from the Heart.
