The most captivating part about this book is the two stories that are told concurrently. Sarah’s experiences together with the contemporary journalist are emotional to the readers. Tatiana De Rosnay offers a fundamental insight on France and the Second World War. Reading the book makes the readers acknowledge the intensity of wars on vulnerable people, for example, children.

It also reveals the hostility that people might have experienced because of their diverse identities in France. Certain scenes in this book suggest that France was apologetic of its role in the painful collaboration.
