Your full December 21, The Exorcist- Book Review William Peter Bletty, in his horror ic novel, The Exorcist, intrigues the reader to read on and on while terrifying him at the same time. I remember myself snuggling under my blanket, reading the novel, afraid of what was going to happen next. Regan and he mother, Chris, hearing voices from their attic freaked me out. The unusual behavior as shown by Regan, especially when she urinates on the floor when Chris throws a party, was sickening. I have always been interested in how the exorcism helps the ones who are possessed by evil spirits, and thus, I looked forward to the scenes when Chris and the priest, Karras, call for an exorcist to carry out the ritual of exorcism to help Regan get rid of the demon.
What held me the most in the novel were the passages that showed how Karras forced the spirit to get into him, when Father Merrin died, and how he jumped out of a window after the demon had left Regan only to enter him. Since the novel mostly contains dialogues, I found it very fascinating to read on and on, and so, I cannot say that it bored me. Thus, I found the novel very interesting, compelling me to read on and on, especially because of the layout of the plot and selection of words by the author.
I found the novel very well-written and extremely frightening due to the psychological horror it contains and the resulting horror images the reader imagines while reading it. Works CitedBlatty, William Peter. The Exorcist. USA: Transworld, 2010.
